Ultraviolet‐C as a viable reprocessing method for disposable masks and filtering facepiece respirators
In normal conditions, discarding single-use personal protective equipment after use is the rule for its users due to the possibility of being infected, particularly for masks and filtering facepiece respirators. When the demand for these protective tools is not satisfied by the companies supplying them, a scenario of shortages occurs, and new strategies must arise. One possible approach regards the disinfection of these pieces of equipment, but there are multiple methods. Analyzing these methods, Ultraviolet-C (UV-C) becomes an exciting option, given its germicidal capability. This paper aims to describe the state-of-the-art for UV-C sterilization in masks and filtering facepiece respirators. To achieve this goal, we adopted a systematic literature review in multiple databases added to a snowball method to make our sample as robust as possible and encompass a more significant number of studies. We found that UV-C’s germicidal capability is just as good as other sterilization methods. Combining this characteristic with other advantages makes UV-C sterilization desirable compared to other methods, despite its possible disadvantages. The authors would also like to acknowledge the project PLASMAMED—PTDC/CTM‐

Compactness in the Thermal Evolution of Twin Stars
In this work, we study for the first time the thermal evolution of twin star
pairs, i.e., stars that present the same mass but different radius and
compactness. We collect available equations of state that give origin to a
second branch of stable compact stars with quarks in their core. For each
equation of state, we investigate the particle composition inside stars and how
differently each twin evolves over time, which depends on the central
density/pressure and consequent crossing of the threshold for the Urca cooling
process. We find that, although the general stellar thermal evolution depends
on mass and particle composition, withing one equation of state, only twin
pairs that differ considerably on compactness can be clearly distinguished by
how they cool down
Palavras-chave: Educação; direito, política educacional; capitalismoTHE EDUCATION AS A RIGHT: contributions to reflection of educational policies in the contemporary scene Abstract: The reflections developed in this article are part of a research held with the goal of discussing the education role as political mediation in the dispute for hegemonic battle between opposite social classes. Based on critical-dialectical method, is firstly made a reflection, about the rights category and the contradictory role that it performs in marked conjunctures by market domain and exploration of working class, according the capital’s interest. Next, discusses, according to Brazilian’s reality, the education as a social right, its use to the interest of dominant class, and its repercussion in the promotion of ambiguous educational policies, that makes stronger the perspective of the education’s marketization, backwards legitimating it as a social right to all citizens. Keywords: Education, right, educational policy, capitalis
An examination of design education in Brazil; and the value of a design language structural model as a basis for teaching
The past decade has been most promising for the development of a philosophical basis for Design Education in Brazil. The first meeting of directors of Brazilian Industrial Design high schools took place in 1984 in Rio de Janeiro. In 1986 in Brasilia a team of professional designers met, with the aim of evaluating almost 25 years of industrial design education in Brazil. In 1987 the Brazilian ministry of education and culture outlined the domains and approved the content of a new industrial design education curriculum. In 1988 representatives from all the Brazilian design schools met in Florian6polis to discuss, identify and determine guidelines for teaching design and in that same year the new national design curriculum was enforced in all high level Brazilian design courses.\ud
However, analyses of the documents published following these events show that design in Brazil is conceived as an educational practice relating only to the tertiary level and a professional activity restricted to the fields of Graphic and Industrial Design. The reason why Design in Brazil is often elitist, vocational, and restrictive appears to be related to design educators not realising the full potential of the Portuguese word desenho; and therefore, not conceptualising Design as an area of human experience, skill and knowledge that reflects man's concern with the appreciation and adaptation of his surroundings in the light of his material and spiritual needs. In particular, relating to the configuration, composition, meaning, value and purpose of man-made phenomena. Consequently, Brazilian design educators are decharacterising the Portuguese language when, treating matters related to Design, they use English terms and expressions unnecessarily.\ud
Thus, this dissertation examines design language in Brazil; and the importance of an agreed language to develop design education in the country. Chapter I is concerned with the denotations given to the words design, dessin, disegno, designo, diseno, deseno, and desenho in their respective languages; and the connotations which the human ability design has acquired within certain European cultural contexts. In Chapter II texts were investigated in order to examine concepts of Design in Brazil, and how Brazilian design educators have understood, discussed and disseminated ideas using written language. Chapter III is based on interviews with Brazilian design educators, and it focuses on the spoken language used by them to express and discuss problems of education in the country.\ud
The contribution of this dissertation to Brazilian design education, can be found in Chapters IV and V, where an attempt is made to: (i) reinforce the meanings and usage of the Portuguese word desenho; (ii) create a design terminology genuinely based on Portuguese words; and (iii) build a structural model for a design language, which can be used to reconstruct and evaluate the present curriculum of Brazilian design courses. \u
CUSTOS E OTIMIZAÇÃO DE ROTAS NO TRANSPORTE DE LEITE A LATÃO E A GRANEL: UM ESTUDO DE CASO
This present work compares the can and the bulk milk transportation systems in the first run, taking into consideration the economical cost indexes, leveling point, optimization of routes and the forms of payment for the freight. The study was carried out at a milk receptor company in the western side of Minas Gerais and the optimization model was based on the Vehicles Path Vertices Problem ( PPV ). The SisGRAFO software was used. In the analysis operational deficiencies in the bulk milk transportation system were verified, as well as deficiencies in the remuneration of the carters and in the optimization of routes. The adoption of a system which rewards the carter per transported volume instead of traveled distance comes as a suggestion.milk transportation, can and bulk, optimization of routes.,
Evaluation of fabrics' resistance for surgical aprons after washing-sterilization process / Avaliação da resistência de tecidos para aventais cirúrgicos após processo de lavagem e esterilização
A surgical center is a unique place for biochemical risks, specially concerning surgical aprons, as they tend to be soaked with fluids from both patients and its users during procedures. This study evaluates how the common fabrics used as raw material in reusable surgical aprons behave after washing-sterilization process. In order to perform such analysis, this study uses three types of fabrics: 100% cotton, mixed (67% cotton and 33% polyester), and 100% polyester. The variables “grammage,” “pore area,” and “bacterial growth” were evaluated in three different moments. The variables “grammage” and “pore area”, presented less wear out in cotton fabric. However, it is noticed that textiles with natural fibers (e.g., cotton or mixed) had a higher incidence of bacterial growth. Even though cotton fabric presented one of the highest incidences of bacterial infestation, it was chosen as the best raw material for surgical aprons. To solve this problem mentioned above, we suggested using antibacterial finishes, which are common while manufacturing reusable surgical aprons
