    Inverse relationship between serum high density lipoprotein and negative syndrome in antipsychotic-naive schizophrenia

    Background: Recent literature suggests a role for apolipoprotein L (apoL) aberrations in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. ApoL is almost exclusively associated with apolipoprotein A-I in high-density lipoproteins (HDLs). The objective of this study was to examine the correlation between symptom scores and serum HDL in antipsychotic-naive schizophrenia patients. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 60 antipsychotic-naive schizophrenia patients were systematically examined for their symptom scores, with good inter-rater reliability. Concurrently, an overnight fasting serum lipid profile from these patients was assessed. Results: Serum HDL had a significant inverse correlation with a total negative syndrome score (ρ=−0.43; p=0.001).     Wireless Power Transmission

    Wireless Power Transmission through inductive coupling is one of the new emerging technologies that will bring tremendous change in human life. Due to shortage of time and fast running life style it is difficult to carry the complete charging set which increases the demand of the wirelessly charged products. Wireless power transfer is one of the simplest and inexpensive ways of charging as it eliminate the use of conventional copper cables and current carrying wires. In this paper, a technique is devised for a wireless power transfer through induction, and a feasible design is modeled accordingly. The technique used in this paper is the inductive coupling as it the easiest method of high efficiency power transfer without using wired medium (eg, transformer). In this paper the result of experiment is given which is done to check wireless working of a simple application by glowing LED, and charging a mobile. Wireless power transfer is not much affected by placing hurdles likes books, hands and plastic between transceiver and receiver. This research work focuses on the study of wireless power transfer for the purpose of transferring cut and dried amount of energy at maximum efficiency

    Vibration is one of the important considerations in design. Nowadays, almost every family has the car. So, it becomes most important to study the vehicle vibrations. Analysis of human body physical model experimentally when situated in automotive vehicle. The model fabrication is done on the basis of comparing real human body parameters with human physical models used in the ISO 10068:2012 standard. This article revealed effect of vibration transferring to the specific parts of human body due to vibration transferring from Seat to Height (STH) and from Hands on steering. The focus of the present study was to determine the vibration output from fabricated model. The vibrations as input to the model are from automotive vehicles. The input verses output vibration characteristics will be useful to study effects of vibration on human health. The human body is considered as a simple spring, mass, damper system for analysis. This multi body model representative of the automotive postures found in the literature were investigated, one with and the other without a backrest support. The model was modified to suitably represent the different automotive postures with and without backrest supports, and validated by various experimental data from the published literature pertaining to the same postural conditions on the basis of the analytical study and the experimental

    Neutrino Anomalies in Gauge Mediated Model with Trilinear R violation

    The structure of neutrino masses and mixing resulting from trilinear RR violating interactions is studied in the presence of the gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking. Neutrino masses arise in this model at tree level through the RG-induced vacuum expectation values of the sneutrinos and also through direct contribution at 1-loop. The relative importance of these contributions is determined by the values of the strong and weak coupling constants. In case of purely λ\lambda' couplings, the tree contribution dominates over the 1-loop diagram. In this case, one simultaneously obtains atmospheric neutrino oscillations and quasi-vacuum oscillations of the solar neutrinos if all the \l' couplings are assumed to be of similar magnitudes. If R parity violation arises from the trilinear \l couplings, then the loop induced contribution dominates over the tree level. One cannot simultaneously explain the solar and atmospheric deficit in this case if all the \l couplings are of similar magnitude.     A major genetic locus controlling natural Plasmodium falciparum infection is shared by East and West African Anopheles gambiae

    Background: Genetic linkage mapping identified a region of chromosome 2L in the Anopheles gambiae genome that exerts major control over natural infection by Plasmodium falciparum. This 2L Plasmodium-resistance interval was mapped in mosquitoes from a natural population in Mali, West Africa, and controls the numbers of P. falciparum oocysts that develop on the vector midgut. An important question is whether genetic variation with respect to Plasmodium-resistance exists across Africa, and if so whether the same or multiple geographically distinct resistance mechanisms are responsible for the trait. Methods: To identify P falciparum resistance loci in pedigrees generated and infected in Kenya, East Africa, 28 microsatellite loci were typed across the mosquito genome. Genetic linkage mapping was used to detect significant linkage between genotype and numbers of midgut oocysts surviving to 7–8 days post-infection. Results: A major malaria-control locus was identified on chromosome 2L in East African mosquitoes, in the same apparent position originally identified from the West African population. Presence of this resistance locus explains 75% of parasite free mosquitoes. The Kenyan resistance locus is named EA_Pfin1 (East Africa_ Plasmodium falciparum Infection Intensity). Conclusion: Detection of a malaria-control locus at the same chromosomal location in both East and West African mosquitoes indicates that, to the level of genetic resolution of the analysis, the same mechanism of Plasmodium-resistance, or a mechanism controlled by the same genomic region, is found across Africa, and thus probably operates in A. gambiae throughout its entire range

    Inhibition of Osteoclastogenesis by Mechanically Loaded Osteocytes: Involvement of MEPE

    In regions of high bone loading, the mechanoresponsive osteocytes inhibit osteoclastic bone resorption by producing signaling molecules. One possible candidate is matrix extracellular phosphoglycoprotein (MEPE) because acidic serine- and aspartate-rich MEPE-associated motif peptides upregulate osteoprotegerin (OPG) gene expression, a negative regulator of osteoclastogenesis. These peptides are cleaved from MEPE when relatively more MEPE than PHEX (phosphate-regulating gene with homology to endopeptidases on the X chromosome) is present. We investigated whether mechanical loading of osteocytes affects osteocyte-stimulated osteoclastogenesis by involvement of MEPE. MLO-Y4 osteocytes were mechanically loaded by 1-h pulsating fluid flow (PFF; 0.7 ± 0.3 Pa, 5 Hz) or kept under static control conditions. Recombinant MEPE (0.05, 0.5, or 5 μg/ml) was added to some static cultures. Mouse bone marrow cells were seeded on top of the osteocytes to determine osteoclastogenesis. Gene expression of MEPE, PHEX, receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand (RANKL), and OPG by osteocytes was determined after PFF. Osteocytes supported osteoclast formation under static control conditions. Both PFF and recombinant MEPE inhibited osteocyte-stimulated osteoclastogenesis. PFF upregulated MEPE gene expression by 2.5-fold, but not PHEX expression. PFF decreased the RANKL/OPG ratio at 1-h PFF treatment. Our data suggest that mechanical loading induces changes in gene expression by osteocytes, which likely contributes to the inhibition of osteoclastogenesis after mechanical loading of bone. Because mechanical loading upregulated gene expression of MEPE but not PHEX, possibly resulting in the upregulation of OPG gene expression, we speculate that MEPE is a soluble factor involved in the inhibition of osteoclastogenesis by osteocytes

    Expanding Clinical Presentations Due to Variations in THOC2 mRNA Nuclear Export Factor

    Multiple TREX mRNA export complex subunits (e.g., THOC1, THOC2, THOC5, THOC6, THOC7) have now been implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), neurodegeneration and cancer. We previously implicated missense and splicing-defective THOC2 variants in NDDs and a broad range of other clinical features. Here we report 10 individuals from nine families with rare missense THOC2 variants including the first case of a recurrent variant (p.Arg77Cys), and an additional individual with an intragenic THOC2 microdeletion (Del-Ex37-38).
