Pemupukan akhlak muslim menurut pandangan Ibnu Miskawayh

    Get PDF

The Roles of Muhtasib in Islamic Medieval Urban Management

    Get PDF
The medieval Islamic cities were described to be systematically managed by the institution of hisba, henceforward, inspiring modern Muslims to revive the Islamic paradigm of urban management. Nevertheless, not much is being discussed on the role of muhtasib as an urban regulator. Furthermore, it has been wrongly understood only as a market inspector. Thus, employing the content analysis approach, this article examines the roles of muhtasib in urban management, based on selected manuals of muhtasib, written during the medieval times. Interestingly, the findings indicate a series of Islamic principles on urban management that match modern urban management, albeit the difference of time. The Principle of ‘Damage’ as Guidance for Civil Society Roles in Islamic Built Environment

    Get PDF
Uncontrolled urbanization harms both the environment and society. Sole environmental responsibility has diminished the community's sense of responsibility. In this way, Local Agenda 21 aims to engage all parties, including civil society. This paper will explore the ‘Damage' principle in relation to the environmental roles of civil society. Content from Kitab al-I'lan Bi Ahkam Al-Bunyan was analyzed. The findings revealed several fiqh-related essences related to civil society roles. A sustainable built environment requires policymakers and society to reexamine community involvement levels, types, and forms. This study examined the application of critical thinking in teaching Islamic subjects at the campus of Universiti Teknologi MARA Puncak Alam. The sample of this study consisted of students from various faculties. Based on specific characteristics, the researchers used stratified random sampling to draw the samples. In particular, the study examined respondents' perception on critical thinking towards the teaching approaches and methods in teaching critical thinking. Using questionnaire as instrument, this study probed on respondents' view on their lecturers' teaching practices in the aspect of critical thinking. The researchers employed descriptive statistics to analyse the collected data. Findings indicated that the majority of the respondents have positive perceptions on critical thinking. Most of them believed that their lecturers practiced critical thinking in the classroom. They agreed that the use of critical thinking will enhance their success in the off-the-campus activities. Nevertheless, this study does not capture details of the lecturers' actual practices in teaching critical thinking to their students. Perhaps further study using qualitative methods such as classroom observations and interviews with the lecturers would better explain such application of critical thinking in the lecturers' method of teaching

Environmental philanthropy entails devoting time and resources to addressing environmental issues through non-governmental conservation organisations or community involvement. The purpose of this research is to delve into the lessons of Islamic environmental philanthropy outlined in Kitab Al-Jidar and Kitab Al-I'lan Bi Ahkam Al-Bunyan. This paper adds to the body of knowledge by focusing on environmental philanthropy in the traditional Islamic built environment, which has received little attention in the literature. To achieve the research objective, qualitative research methods were used, while content analysis was used for analysis. According to the findings of this study, the environmental philanthropy implemented in Kitab Al-Jidar and Kitab Al-I'lan is concerned with both environmental and social sustainability. It is hoped that this paper will provide new ideas and guidelines for future environmental conservation

Tadlis in Islamic transactions / Mohamed Azam Mohamed Adil … [et al.]

    Get PDF
The discussion on tadlis has been quite complicated since Muslim jurists are in dispute over its meaning. Some tend to interchange it with taghrir and ghabn. While others suggest that the doctrine of tadlis and misrepresentation are so closely interrelated. This article suggests that the doctrine of tadlis is so akin to taghrir and ghabn which mean fraud. It also suggests that the effect of fraud in Islamic transactions is that the defrauded party may rescind the contract by exercising the option of fraud (khiyar al-tadlis)

The english picture book on intercultural awareness of Malaysian kindergateners.

    Get PDF
This research is carried out for the purpose of developing intercultural awareness, which should be one of the major aims of teaching English to young learners, along with learning how to speak or listen. Our presentation will report that reading picture-books in a foreign language to young children (5-6 years old) is effective in developing their consciousness about different languages or cultures. We had kindergartners read English picture-books more than three times a week, both in their kindergartens and at home, with some adults around them, and have found that this method helped them to be aware that there are many different sounds, words, and rhythms. This awareness may lead them to further consciousness of the existence of different cultures, and of different people belonging to them. This kind of intercultural awareness is important particularly in a mono-lingual society like Malaysia, where children are normally not exposed to different languages other than their mother tongue. Analysis of our interviews and questionnaires indicates that children who read English picture-books with CDs both in kindergartens and at home more than three times a week could develop an interest in and positive attitudes towards different languages and the people speaking them, and also the deeper culture on which they are based

Learning vocabulary through image sketching among primary school children.

    Get PDF
Vocabulary has long been neglected by most linguists and language teachers who either regard the teaching of it as unnecessary or even determined to the learning of a second language. In recent years, however, interest in the teaching/learning vocabulary has revived and once again a number of linguists and language teachers are involved in attempts to facilitate vocabulary acquisition by the foreign learner of English. This paper introduces a technique of teaching/learning vocabulary that aims to make the task not only more enjoyable for both teacher and learner but also more meaningful. The technique in question is a variation of the so-called mnemonic techniques which seek to create an unusual association between the word form and its meaning. But the technique differs from the keyword technique in important ways. First of all, it makes no attempt to establish any link between the learner’s first language and English. Secondly, it involves the learners taking time – about 2 or 3 minutes – to sketch an image of the word or expression under study. The programme requires the retraining of service teachers who are provided with draw upon their experience in conducting of 20 students in Sek.Keb.Serdang, Selangor. The feedback received from the students supports the vocabulary programmes from image sketching
