    Marsupialization of mandibular cystic lesions, clinical observations of 23 cases

    1. Marsupialization was performed on 23 cases of cystic lesions of the jaw at the Department of Oral Surgery, Okayama University Hospital in the recent five years. 2. These patients were divided into 4 groups according to their age; namely, group A of those under IS years old, group B of those between 15 and 30 years old, group C of those between 31 and 60 years old, and group D of those over 61 years old, and the results of postoperative findings were compared with those of preoperative ones. 3. In group A of the four groups the most favorable results were obtained after marsupialization and reduction of the tumor was remarkable, even in a case of ameloblastoma, as compared with groups B, C and D. 4. Cure of lesions took somewhat a longer period of time in group B than in group A, but all the cystic lesions were reduced favorably after operation. 5. The reduction in cysts in groups C and D was markedly slower when compared with that in groups A and B, but the marsupialization surgery seems to be desirable in some cases.</p

    Early Results of a Wildfire Monitoring Microsatellite UNIFORM-1

    UNIFORM (UNiversity International FORmation Mission) is a capacity building program in microsatellite field including satellites, ground stations, and data platform. The program, sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Technology (MEXT) of Japan, aims to increase the number of players in the small satellite community through education of both domestic and international young engineers, by providing them with an opportunity to study, build, and operate microsatellites. The first satellite of the program, UNIFORM-1 was launched on May 24th 2014. UNIFORM-1 is a 50-kg earth observation satellite whose mission is wildfiremonitoring using a microbolometer. Since then it has been in operation, successfully capturing several events on the ground including wildfires and volcanic activities. This paper presents in-orbit results of UNIFORM-1 mission, critical bus subsystems including EPS and AOCS, and lessons learned from its operations

    HORIZONTAL CURRENT BIPOLAR TRANSISTOR (HCBT) – A LOW-COST, HIGH-PERFORMANCE FLEXIBLE BICMOS TECHNOLOGY FOR RF COMMUNICATION APPLICATIONS

    In an overview of Horizontal Current Bipolar Transistor (HCBT) technology, the state-of-the-art integrated silicon bipolar transistors are described which exhibit fT and fmax of 51 GHz and 61 GHz and fTBVCEO product of 173 GHzV that are among the highest-performance implanted-base, silicon bipolar transistors. HBCT is integrated with CMOS in a considerably lower-cost fabrication sequence as compared to standard vertical-current bipolar transistors with only 2 or 3 additional masks and fewer process steps. Due to its specific structure, the charge sharing effect can be employed to increase BVCEO without sacrificing fT and fmax. Moreover, the electric field can be engineered just by manipulating the lithography masks achieving the high-voltage HCBTs with breakdowns up to 36 V integrated in the same process flow with high-speed devices, i.e. at zero additional costs. Double-balanced active mixer circuit is designed and fabricated in HCBT technology. The maximum IIP3 of 17.7 dBm at mixer current of 9.2 mA and conversion gain of -5 dB are achieved.This article has been corrected. Link to the correction DOI:10.2298/FUEE1703429

    On-The-Fly Observing System of the Nobeyama 45-m and ASTE 10-m Telescopes

    We have developed spectral line On-The-Fly (OTF) observing mode for the Nobeyama Radio Observatory 45-m and the Atacama Submillimeter Telescope Experiment 10-m telescopes. Sets of digital autocorrelation spectrometers are available for OTF with heterodyne receivers mounted on the telescopes, including the focal-plane 5 x 5 array receiver, BEARS, on the 45-m. During OTF observations, the antenna is continuously driven to cover the mapped region rapidly, resulting in high observing efficiency and accuracy. Pointing of the antenna and readouts from the spectrometer are recorded as fast as 0.1 second. In this paper we report improvements made on software and instruments, requirements and optimization of observing parameters, data reduction process, and verification of the system. It is confirmed that, using optimal parameters, the OTF is about twice as efficient as conventional position-switch observing method.Comment: 11 pages, 13 figures, accepted for publication in PAS
