The drainage system is used for controlling, management, or convey the storm water into certain areas. The system is used to prevent the entry of water into the soil structure and reduce the strength and durability of the ground. The present study aimed to evaluate the existing drainage capacity and propose a conceptual flood mitigation measures. The study area was located at Kampung Paya Lang, Segamat with two types of drainage system included concrete and earth drainage. Determintion of the rainfall hydrograph was investigated in the site area, survey of existing drainage (cross-section), drainage profile and flow measurement in each existing drainage. The data of rainfall was analyzed in XP SWMM software to know the storm water movement when the existing drainage is not properly well. The rainfall data were obtained from Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) in the form of hours and minutes for nearby rain station for a period of 10 years from 2006 to latest. Therefore, the inventory for each drainage should fulfill the requirement of MSMA. The results revealed that the existing drainage was less effective in the process to convey the flow of storm water runoff due to the continuous rain occur that would cause overflow of drainage and flooding. The existing concrete drainage and earth drain was less effective to prevent the occurrence of flooding situation in every catchment area at the study area location

Local scour below submerged pipelines occurs due to the erosive and action of currents which cause pipeline failure. The presence of pipe across river initiates the piping effect combined with the stagnation eddy and vortex system undermine the pipeline and mark the onset of scour. The main objective of the research is to investigate the physics of scour below pipeline in river crossing as well as its factor associated. In this study, experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of four different pipeline angles (30º, 45º, 60º and 90º) across a channel

In a tropical country like Malaysia, the availability of research works to monitor channel changes as a response to situating a dam over an observation period may help to establish new management strategies. These investigations will constitute a vital approach in assessing the changes to channel morphology downstream due to the presence of a dam and its operations. In the present study, the effects of Kahang Dam on Kahang River morphology, in particular, the downstream section was investigated and analyzed between January 2017 to January 2018. The rainfall pattern of the study period, the flow regime concerning the period, and geomorphological channel adjustments were carried out during the field surveys over a 400 meters reach. Different responses were leading to high flow and low flow regimes during periods with and without any interference due to dam operations. Similarly, the river channel was characterized by adjustments and realignments, causing modifications to the river morphology. Changes in cross-sectional area and local incision were also noticed as a direct response to sediment deficit and bank erosion process

Floods are the most frequent type of natural disaster and occur when heavy precipitation for days or even weeks. Floods will cause extensive destruction, resulting in loss of life and disruption to personal property and vital infrastructure for public health. In this study, HEC-RAS model was used to identify the flood prone area and to determine cross section at floodplain area along the stream network. The study was conducted in the area Muar, Johor. The methodology involved collection of parameters such as length of stream, lateral & elevation of coordinates, streamline and flow data to perform a hydraulic simulation. Different value of flowrate had been used by using the manning equation to estimate the drainage or channel capability to manage the flowrate. The number of station for each cross section need to locate in order to simulate the cross section along the river or channel. Meanwhile, the result outcome will show the cross section for each station. From the result, the analysis of the cross section include with the affected area of floodplain was identified. According to the hydraulic model generated by HEC-RAS software, 7 of 20 stations found will be flood for the 10 years return period since they were unable to accommodate the water flow. By doing this research, the flood model will be developed and HEC-RAS software is one of the tool that can analyse and model for the floodplain area. In a meantime, the government can control and give an early warning about the flood incident

    Get PDF
Feature selection (FS) is a process of selecting a subset of relevant features depends on the specific target variables especially when dealing with high dimensional dataset. The aim of this paper is to investigate the performance comparison of different feature selection techniques on high dimensional datasets. The techniques used are filter, wrapper and hybrid. Information gain (IG) represents the filter, Fish Swarm Algorithm (FSA) represents metaheuristics wrapper and Hybrid FSA-IG represents the hybrid technique. Five datasets with different number of features are used in these techniques. The dataset used are breast cancer, lung cancer, ovarian cancer, mixed-lineage leukaemia (MLL) and small round blue cell tumors (SRBCT). The result shown Hybrid FSA-IG managed to select least feature that represent significant feature for every dataset with improved performance of accuracy from 4.868% to 33.402% and 1.706% to 25.154% compared to IG and FSA respectively

Human Resources Management Practices and Total Quality Management (TQM) is the Precondition to Gain the Sustainable Competitive Advantage in the Bangladesh Ready-Made Garments Sector

    Get PDF
Bangladesh Garments manufacturing industry is expanding at a rate of 20% per year and around 76% of the export earnings are came from RMG sector (BEPB, 2018). Currently 4.2 million workers are working in this sector where 4490 manufacturing units are in operation (BGMEA, 2018). Bangladesh Ready-Made Garments (RMG) shows remarkable growth and significant contribution in the country's economic development though product and service qualities are yet a considerable problem to worry about. RMG companies in Bangladesh are not fully aware about the impacts and value of Total Quality Management (TQM) implementation. At the same time, Bangladesh garments industry fully labor intensive rather than technology oriented as Bangladesh is the cheapest labor country, the average labor cost per hour is only $0.3.Researchers argue that effective implementation of HRM and TQM practices is a main criteria and predictor of gaining sustainability in business. As, it is notable to mention that in case of Bangladesh RMG sector most of the existing literature give more emphasis and discuss about the infrastructural and strategic matters whereas TQM and Human Resource Management (HRM) practices in an attempt to improve sustainable competitive advantage is still a debate both theoretically as well as empirically. In this research tried to point out that HRM practices and TQM are positively related to organizational sustainable competitive advantage. In this aspect, literature's proved that, HR practices didn't get much attention which need to be measured and analysis in the aspect of Bangladesh RMG sectors quality performance improvement as in RMG sector human resources is the main advantage for industrial growth and sustainable competitive advantage in business. So this study is required to lift up this expectation to fulfill this research gap So there is a huge gap for further research. Proposed research direction and conclusion are discussed in conclusion of this research
