[Excerpt] “This article will address the impact the shift from hard-copy recordings to digital music distribution has had on the recording industry. Specifically, it will apply F.B.T. Productions v. Aftermath Records, which correctly held that a label’s relationship with third-party-digital-music-providers is that of licensor-licensee, to the modern music industry. Based on this holding, record labels need to reconsider their relationships with artists, and create new business models that rely on licensing music, rather than the traditional sale-based distribution model. The decision in Aftermath will lead to increased royalties for artists in the Digital Age. This article will analyze the impact of that decision for the modern music industry by advocating for increased artist royalties in this digital music era. By examining other relevant case law, the fundamental purpose of royalty distributions, and the evolution of the recording industry, this article will emphasize the need for the recording industry to adapt to the changing musical landscape and suggest possible business models.

Characterization of mesostasis regions in lunar basalts: Understanding late-stage melt evolution and its influence on apatite formation

Recent studies geared toward understanding the volatile abundances of the lunar interior have focused on the volatile-bearing accessory mineral apatite. Translating measurements of volatile abundances in lunar apatite into the volatile inventory of the silicate melts from which they crystallized, and ultimately of the mantle source regions of lunar magmas, however, has proved more difficult than initially thought. In this contribution, we report a detailed characterization of mesostasis regions in four Apollo mare basalts (10044, 12064, 15058, and 70035) in order to ascertain the compositions of the melts from which apatite crystallized. The texture, modal mineralogy, and reconstructed bulk composition of these mesostasis regions vary greatly within and between samples. There is no clear relationship between bulk-rock basaltic composition and that of bulk-mesostasis regions, indicating that bulk-rock composition may have little influence on mesostasis compositions. The development of individual melt pockets, combined with the occurrence of silicate liquid immiscibility, exerts greater control on the composition and texture of mesostasis regions. In general, the reconstructed late-stage lunar melts have roughly andesitic to dacitic compositions with low alkali contents, displaying much higher SiO2 abundances than the bulk compositions of their host magmatic rocks. Relevant partition coefficients for apatite-melt volatile partitioning under lunar conditions should, therefore, be derived from experiments conducted using intermediate compositions instead of compositions representing mare basalts

An Unusual Reaction to Opioid Blockade with Naltrexone in a Case of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

An unusual behavioral and cardiovascular reaction was observed during opioid blockade with naltrexone in a 32-year-old male who met DSM III-R criteria for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). As part of an ongoing placebo-controlled investigation of the effects of naltrexone on laboratory and ambulatory blood pressure reactivity, this participant reported experiencing feelings of rage, explosive behavior, and other unpleasant symptoms. When compared to all other subjects (N=24), this individual showed significantly greater effects of naltrexone on blood pressure reactivity during the laboratory stressor. His ambulatory blood pressures, when compared to placebo, were significantly increased during the 24-hr period following naltrexone. The unusual behavioral and cardiovascular responses following ingestion of naltrexone suggest an important role for endogenous opioids in adjustment to stress in this case of PTSD

The Impact of Resilience and Professional Practice Demographics on the Professional Quality of Life of Recreational Therapists

Compassion fatigue can worsen recreational therapists’ quality of life, leaving lasting impacts on a professional’s a professionals\u27 work, home, and social environments. There is little to no research that discusses the impact of resilience and professional practice demographics on compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue among recreational therapists. This nonexperimental correlational dissertation study examined the impact of resilience and professional practice demographics on the professional quality life (compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue) in a group of recreational therapists. A total of 677 recreational therapists were analyzed after responding to an online survey that included a professional practice demographic questionnaire, the Professional Quality of Life scale, and the Scale of Protective Factors. Overall, this sample showed moderate levels of compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue with adequate levels of resilience. Results suggest that as resilience increases, compassion satisfaction also increases, while compassion fatigue decreases. This sample was found to have higher levels of cognitive resilience than social resilience. Additionally, this dissertation study suggests that older females with longer years of work experience have the highest levels of compassion satisfaction, while older males with longer years of work experience have the lowest levels of compassion fatigue. Risk factors for lower compassion satisfaction were identified as providing individual treatment sessions, and risk factors for compassion fatigue were identified as treating clients with trauma histories. Findings indicate further exploration into the effect of compassion satisfaction and resilience as shielding agents to compassion fatigue is warranted in this population. Additionally, there is a need for interventions that may help in the management of compassion fatigue
