From Julius Caesar Scaliger to Luís da Cruz, S.J., with reference to the Council of Trent

La experiencia de los descubrimientos ha ayudado a dar forma al concepto de "humanitas", en su propensión universal, esta génesis se basa en la lectura de los clásicos -la ejemplaridad de la fe en el mundo clásico- aunque Silvio Piccolomini añadirá la lectura de los padres de la Iglesia, el Antiguo Testamento, los Evangelios y autores contemporáneos como Leonardo Bruni. A través del "studium", el hombre alcanza su pleno desarrollo, hacia un mayor grado de "virtus", logrando uno de los valores más característicos de los romanos, cuyo origen es muy similar a la "aretê" greiga. Este pensamiento greco-latino, junto a la doctrina de la Iglesia ha inspirado el gran resumen de la pedagogía humanista, cristalizada en la "Ratio studiorum" (1586, Padre Acquaviva) de la Compañía de Jesús, cuya fundación se debió al teólogo Paiva de Andrade. La A. establecerá su atención en concepciones poéticas de César Scaliger, destacando un enfoque hacia la retórica que, en armoniosa simbiosis, nos lleva a alcanzar la máxima perfección del lenguaje humano, al servicio del paradigma de la "vir bonus dicendi peritus", en el contexto de un auténtico programa ético-político para la renovación de la sociedad.The experience of the discoveries has helped to shape the concept of "humanitas", in its universal propensity, this genesis would be based on the reading of the classics —the exemplary of the faith on the classical world though Silvio Piccolomini will add the reading of the Fathers of the Church, the Old Testament, the Gospels and contemporary authors like Leonardo Bruni. Through the "studium", the man reached its full development, up into a higher grade of "virtus", performing one of the most characteristic values of the Romans, which origin is very similar to the Greek "aretê". This Greco-Latinthought together with the doctrine of the Church have inspired the great docket of humanist pedagogy, crystallized in the Ratio Studiorum (1586, Father Acquaviva) of the Society of Jesus, whose foundation was due to the theologian Paiva de Andrade. The MB WAY case : in what conditions would customers accept paying for this service?

Peoples‟ expectations regarding how financial services are delivered is becoming increasingly demanding. One of these already formed assumptions is related to always being able to perform instant money transfers. In Portugal, the app MB WAY allows every user to make these instant money transfers free of charge. However, a fee is going to be implemented per transaction with the value depending on the bank of the user. The purpose of this research was to conclude if people are indeed willing to start paying for the same service that was once free and if so, how much and in what price scheme. Bank loyalty and the loyalty towards the app itself were also tested. Tests were also made regarding price predictors and willingness to purchase the app, but no major indicators were found to be significant. Primary data was obtained through a questionnaire that provided 319 valid responses from app users. The results have shown that users are not yet willing to accept the prices that maybe are going to be charged, as they view them as being overpriced. Despite that, the impact caused by the app is not sufficient to alter their bank loyalty, although the study suggests that the respondents are receptive to changing apps if a cheaper option is available. Due to the fact that it provides the consumer perspective about this matter, the present research may contribute to how banks assess the possible price setting of instant money transfers in the near future.As expetativas das pessoas em relação à forma como os serviços financeiros são providenciados são agora mais exigentes. Uma delas é a de conseguirem realizar-se transferências instantâneas de dinheiro. Em Portugal, a aplicação MB WAY permite aos seus utilizadores realizar estas tranferências sem qualquer custo. No entanto, passará a ser cobrada uma taxa por cada transferência, estando este valor dependente do banco do utilizador. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar se os clientes estarão dispostos a pagar por um serviço que previamente não tinha custo, e em caso afirmativo, qual o valor a cobrar e em que esquema de preço. Foi igualmente testada a lealdade aos bancos e à própria aplicação. Foram ainda realizados testes relacionados com preditores de preço e com a disponibilidade para adquirir a aplicação, mas nenhum indicador revelou ser significante. Foram obtidos dados primários através de um questionário, que providenciou 319 respostas válidas de utilizadores da aplicação. Os resultados demonstraram que os utilizadores ainda não estão preparados para aceitar os preços que podem vir a ser cobrados, uma vez que os vêem ainda como sobrevalozidados. Apesar disso, o impacto causado pela aplicação não é suficiente para alterar a lealdade perante os bancos, ainda que o estudo sugira que os inquiridos estão dispostos a mudar de aplicação caso exista ou surja uma opção mais barata. Pelo facto de disponibilizar as perspetivas dos clientes sobre este assunto, a presente pesquisa pode dar um contributo para que os bancos determinem os preços a fixar futuramente nas transferências instantâneas

How social housing policies affect housing quality and affordability?: The European case

This dissertation analyses the impact of the share of social housing stock on indicators of housing affordability and housing quality. The model covers a panel of 24 European countries between 2009 and 2019. The results suggest that although there is no statistically significant relation between the share of social rental dwellings and severe housing deprivation rate, there is a positive effect of social housing on housing affordability. An increase of one percent in the share of social housing leads to an increase of 0.94% on households without financial burden due to housing costs. The countries with the highest levels of households without financial burden due to housing costs are also among those with the highest levels of social housing, and the countries with the lowest levels of this indicator are among the countries with the lowest levels of social housing. The main contributions of this research are the time considered throughout the analysis and its population. Despite the difficulty in finding the impact of social housing on households' wellbeing, this analysis portraits many European countries, as well as takes into consideration recent data on social housing, never considered.Esta dissertação analisa o impacto que a percentagem de habitação social tem nos indicadores de acessibilidade e qualidade da habitação. O modelo abrange um painel de 24 países europeus entre 2009 e 2019. Os resultados sugerem que, embora não haja uma relação estatisticamente significativa entre a percentagem de habitação social e a taxa de privação de habitação grave, existe um efeito positivo da habitação social na acessibilidade da habitação. Um aumento de 1% na percentagem de habitação social leva a um aumento de 0,94% nos agregados familiares sem fardo financeiro devido aos custos da habitação. Os países com os níveis mais elevados de agregados familiares sem encargos financeiros, devido aos custos da habitação, estão também entre os países com os níveis mais elevados de habitação social e os países com os níveis mais baixos deste indicador estão entre os países com os níveis mais baixos de habitação social. Os principais contributos desta investigação são o tempo considerado ao longo da análise e a sua população. Internships and Erasmus mobility programs as a platform to employability: The perception of hospitality management undergraduate

These transversal skills promoted in individuals through internships and Erasmus mobility are nowadays considered a relevant issue in terms of employability but are still not deeply researched by scientific research in Portugal, concerning the specific case of professional activities within Hospitality Management. We revise these concepts and contexts, and also their interrelations and importance, especially for the Hospitality Management education and practices. Additionally, the present study aims to expose and discuss the points of view of a group of undergraduate students about: i) internships and Erasmus mobility programs ii) their perception of the importance of those contexts for their employability. So, with an exploratory and a quantitative methodology, this study presents the surveyed students characterisation and explores some important aspects of their internships and mobility experiences, and also their employability expectations generated by those experiences. Besides the presentation of the main results of the ongoing survey we compare the results about the mobility experiences and the associated perception of employability with some of the results presented in The Erasmus Impact Study [1] which is a large and recent study made at a European level. Finally, we reflect about the study limitations and the main conclusions extracted from the study. We also underline some possible implications of this work and research issues to deepen in the future

Making their own weather? Estimating employer labour-market power and its wage effects

The subdued wage growth observed in many countries has spurred interest in monopsony views of regional labour markets. This study measures the extent and robustness of employer power and its wage implications exploiting comprehensive matched employer-employee data. We find average (employment-weighted) Herfindhal indices of 800 to 1,100, stable over the 1986-2019 period covered, and that typically less than 9% of workers are exposed to concentration levels thought to raise market power concerns. When controlling for both worker and firm heterogeneity and instrumenting for concentration, we find that wages are negatively affected by employer concentration, with elasticities of around -1.4%. Esta dissertação baseia-se na compreensão de que se está perante um Monumento, património de Sintra e do País, indissociável da magia e do romantismo de uma região que se tornou símbolo de um país singular, de acordo com as cartas e convenções internacionais. O objectivo deste trabalho é elaborar um documento que possa ser utilizado no futuro como base de estudo para a resolução de casos práticos de reabilitação semelhantes ao que se apresenta e também promover uma aprendizagem sobre as técnicas de restauro e reforço de estruturas de madeira. Pretende-se contribuir também com conjunto de experiências profissionais sobre uma matéria que para o nosso País deverá ser cada vez mais tomada em consideração e conhecida. Tentou-se com este trabalho, e a partir da experiência profissional vivida como técnico responsável e colaborador da LNRibeiro Construções Lda. desenvolver a temática do reforço das estruturas de madeira em construções antigas, por se tratar de um material nobre e com propriedades comprovadas, ainda que pouco explorado e actualmente sujeito a preconceitos de utilização. No desenvolvimento da minha actividade regi-me sempre pelo profundo respeito ao Monumento, sua autenticidade e humildade na aprendizagem que este me ia transmitido
