Effect of biofertilizers and neem oil on the entomopathogenic fungi beauveria bassiana (Bals.) vuill. and metarhizium anisopliae (Metsch.) sorok.
The in vitro fungitoxic effect of three biofertilizers, E.M.-4, Multibion Ô and Supermagro used in organic agriculture and the neem oil (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) on the entomopathogenic fungi Metarhizium anisopliae and Beauveria bassiana was studied. These products were mixed in a medium where the two fungi were inoculated, and germination, vegetative growth and conidiogenesis were assessed. The biofertilizers Supermagro and E.M.- 4 showed to be less toxic for the two fungi whereas MultibionÔ caused major inhibition on M. anisopliae, with reductions in germination (-37.74%), colony diameter (-30.26%) and conidiogenesis (-42.62%). Neem oil promoted a larger negative effect on B. bassiana, inhibiting germination (-45.27%), colony diameter (-36.62%) and conidiogenesis (-84.93%)
Numerical Simulation of Magnetic Interactions in Polycrystalline YFeO3
The magnetic behavior of polycrystalline yttrium orthoferrite was studied
from the experimental and theoretical points of view. Magnetization
measurements up to 170 kOe were carried out on a single-phase YFeO3 sample
synthesized from heterobimetallic alkoxides. The complex interplay between
weak-ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions, observed in the
experimental M(H) curves, was successfully simulated by locally minimizing the
magnetic energy of two interacting Fe sublattices. The resulting values of
exchange field (H_E = 5590 kOe), anisotropy field (H_A = 0.5 kOe) and
Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya antisymmetric field (H_D = 149 kOe) are in good agreement

EVALUATION OF SOLIDS CARRYING CAPACITY IN AERATED FLUID DRILLING: REAL SCALE TESTS AND MODELING
This paper summarizes the results of two sets of experimental tests performed at PETROBRAS real scale test facility aiming the evaluation of solids return times in aerated fluid drilling. The effect of the following parameters was studied: liquid and gas injection rates, particle diameter and depth. Results indicate that the gas has a major effect in accelerating the liquid phase, which would be responsible for carrying the particles to the surface. The concept of effective liquid velocity coupled with an adequate procedure for particle sedimentation velocity calculation reproduced the experimental results adequately
A reaction-diffusion model for the growth of avascular tumor
A nutrient-limited model for avascular cancer growth including cell
proliferation, motility and death is presented. The model qualitatively
reproduces commonly observed morphologies for primary tumors, and the simulated
patterns are characterized by its gyration radius, total number of cancer
cells, and number of cells on tumor periphery. These very distinct
morphological patterns follow Gompertz growth curves, but exhibit different
scaling laws for their surfaces. Also, the simulated tumors incorporate a
spatial structure composed of a central necrotic core, an inner rim of
quiescent cells and a narrow outer shell of proliferating cells in agreement
with biological data. Finally, our results indicate that the competition for
nutrients among normal and cancer cells may be a determinant factor in

Quantum Logic with a Single Trapped Electron
We propose the use of a trapped electron to implement quantum logic
operations. The fundamental controlled-NOT gate is shown to be feasible. The
two quantum bits are stored in the internal and external (motional) degrees of

Field-induced Ordering in Critical Antiferromagnets
Transfer-matrix scaling methods have been used to study critical properties
of field-induced phase transitions of two distinct two-dimensional
antiferromagnets with discrete-symmetry order parameters: triangular-lattice
Ising systems (TIAF) and the square-lattice three-state Potts model (SPAF-3).
Our main findings are summarised as follows. For TIAF, we have shown that the
critical line leaves the zero-temperature, zero -field fixed point at a finite
angle. Our best estimate of the slope at the origin is . For SPAF-3 we provided evidence that the zero-field correlation
length diverges as , with , through analysis of the critical curve at plus crossover
arguments. For SPAF-3 we have also ascertained that the conformal anomaly and
