    Relaxation processes in thiophene-based random copolymers

    The relaxation dynamics of soluble polyalkylthiophenes obtained by the random copolymerisation of 3,4-dibutylthiophene and 3-butylthiophene monomers is investigated. In these systems, the effective conjugation length, the optical gap and the non-radiative decay rate are controlled by varying the content of disubstituted monomers, the steric hindrance of which induces a twisting angle between thiophene rings. Several indications are reported in favour of spectral diffusion of the photoexcitations. Migration processes mainly occur within a few tens of picoseconds

    Organic-inorganic hybrid solution-processed H2-evolving photocathodes

    Here we report for the first time an H2-evolving photocathode fabricated by a solution-processed organic inorganic hybrid composed of CdSe and P3HT. The CdSe:P3HT (10:1 (w/w)) hybrid bulk heterojunction treated with 1,2-ethanedithiol (EDT) showed efficient water reduction and hydrogen generation. A photocurrent of -1.24 mA/cm(2) at 0 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (V-RHE), EQE of 15%, and an unprecedented V-oc of 0.85 V-RHE under illumination of AM1.5G (100 mW/cm(2)) in mild electrolyte were observed. Time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL), internal quantum efficiency (IQE), and transient photocurrent measurements were carried out to clarify the carrier dynamics of the hybrids. The exciton lifetime of CdSe was reduced by one order of magnitude in the hybrid blend, which is a sign of the fast charge separation upon illumination. By comparing the current magnitude of the solid-state devices and water-splitting devices made with identical active layers, we found that the interfaces of the water-splitting devices limit the device performance. The electron/hole transport properties investigated by comparing IQE spectra upon front- and back-side illumination evidenced balanced electron/hole transport. The Faradaic efficiency is 80-100% for the hybrid photocathodes with Pt catalysts and similar to 70% for the one without Pt catalysts

    High pressure effects on the photoluminescence intensity of sexithiophene single crystals

    We report on the influence of interchain interactions on the light emission properties of a sexithiophene single crystal. The strength of the intermolecular interactions is controlled by applying hydrostatic pressure. The combined use of both steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence techniques permits to show that the pressure-induced quenching of the photoluminescence is caused by a reduction of the radiative recombination rate

    Genetic diversity of Kelampayan using dominant DNA markers based on inter-simple sequence repeats (ISSRs) in Sarawak

    Neolamarckia cadamba (Roxb.) Bosser, or locally known as kelampayan, is a fast-growing timber species which produces one of the best sources of raw material for the plywood industry and also for the pulp and paper industry. It has been selected as one of the promising plantation tree species for large-scale planted forest development in Sarawak. Therefore, the molecular characterization of this indigenous tropical tree species is needed to maintain its high quality. Intersimple sequence repeats (ISSR) markers were used in this study to determine the genetic diversity of kelampayan in three progeny trial blocks at the Landeh Nature Reserve, Semengok, Sarawak. The seeds were collected from the selected mother trees located at the Pasai Bon, Niah and Lawas seed production areas (SPAs) in Sarawak. Three ISSR primers, namely (GTG)6, (AG)10 and (AC)10, that yielded reproducible, informative and scorable fragments were chosen for ISSR analysis. A total of 64 loci were generated of which 45.3–74.6% of the loci were identified as polymorphic bands with the size ranging from 500 bp to 2 kb among 247 kelampayan progenies selected in the present study. Molecular diversity based on Shannon’s diversity indices (I) among 247 trees ranged from 0.268 to 0.350. In general, the kelampayan trees in the three progeny trial blocks exhibited a high level of molecular diversity and DNA polymorphism compared with its natural populations. This preliminary information will form the base for kelampayan tree improvement and conservation programmes

    RAS/MAPK activation is associated with reduced Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer: Therapeutic Cooperation Between MEK and PD-1/PD-L1 Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors

    PURPOSE: Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) in the residual disease (RD) of triple-negative breast cancers (TNBC) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) are associated with improved survival, but insight into tumor cell-autonomous molecular pathways affecting these features are lacking. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: We analyzed TILs in the RD of clinically and molecularly characterized TNBCs after NAC and explored therapeutic strategies targeting combinations of MEK inhibitors with PD-1/PD-L1-targeted immunotherapy in mouse models of breast cancer. RESULTS: Presence of TILs in the RD was significantly associated with improved prognosis. Genetic or transcriptomic alterations in Ras-MAPK signaling were significantly correlated with lower TILs. MEK inhibition upregulated cell surface MHC expression and PD-L1 in TNBC cells both in vivo and in vitro. Moreover, combined MEK and PD-L1/PD-1 inhibition enhanced antitumor immune responses in mouse models of breast cancer. CONCLUSIONS: These data suggest the possibility that Ras-MAPK pathway activation promotes immune-evasion in TNBC, and support clinical trials combining MEK- and PD-L1-targeted therapies. Furthermore, Ras/MAPK activation and MHC expression may be predictive biomarkers of response to immune checkpoint inhibitors

    Linking Distributive and Procedural Justice to Employee Engagement Through Social Exchange: A Field Study in India

    Research linking justice perceptions to employee outcomes has referred to social exchange as its central theoretical premise. We tested a conceptual model linking distributive and procedural justice to employee engagement through social exchange mediators, namely, perceived organizational support and psychological contract, among 238 managers and executives from manufacturing and service sector firms in India. Findings suggest that perceived organizational support mediated the relationship between distributive justice and employee engagement, and both perceived organizational support and psychological contract mediated the relationship between procedural justice and employee engagement. Theoretical and practical implications with respect to organizational functions are discussed

    Measurement of forward charged hadron flow harmonics in peripheral PbPb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV with the LHCb detector

    Flow harmonic coefficients, v n , which are the key to studying the hydrodynamics of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) created in heavy-ion collisions, have been measured in various collision systems and kinematic regions and using various particle species. The study of flow harmonics in a wide pseudorapidity range is particularly valuable to understand the temperature dependence of the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio of the QGP. This paper presents the first LHCb results of the second- and the third-order flow harmonic coefficients of charged hadrons as a function of transverse momentum in the forward region, corresponding to pseudorapidities between 2.0 and 4.9, using the data collected from PbPb collisions in 2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV . The coefficients measured using the two-particle angular correlation analysis method are smaller than the central-pseudorapidity measurements at ALICE and ATLAS from the same collision system but share similar features
