Branding vs perfomance-based advertising : opposing business models?

As empresas tiveram de mudar drasticamente para sobreviver, e reinventar-se para permanecerem competitivas no mercado global. Algumas encararam a mudança como uma oportunidade de crescimento e de extensão da marca nos canais online, infiltrando-se no quotidiano dos consumidores. Outras não se adaptaram à constante mutação do ecossistema empresarial. As que prevaleceram consolidaram a consciencialização da marca e nutriram relacionamentos com os consumidores mais facilmente que nunca. Aproveitaram ainda os meios digitais para aumentar rapidamente as suas vendas através de campanhas de publicidade baseadas no desempenho (performance). Campanhas unicamente focadas na otimização do ROI através do rastreamento da atividade online dos utilizadores. Adotaram uma mentalidade smart, tirando partido da tecnologia, para disfrutar de um relacionamento mais próximo com os consumidores. Dois tipos de publicidade paga prosperaram em redes sociais e motores de busca: branding e performance. Contudo, serão estes modelos verdadeiramente opostos? Esta tese procura responder a esta questão de um ponto de vista complementar, que é consolidado com a análise de um caso de estudo, onde a performance está ao serviço de uma típica campanha de branding.ABSTRACT: E-marketing – marketing through the usage of digital media channels – has taken the world of media by storm in the past decade. Companies have had to change drastically to survive and reinvent themselves to remain competitive in a global market. Some saw an opportunity to thrive and extend their branding to online channels, infiltrating the everyday life of consumers. Others failed to adapt to the everchanging business ecosystem. The ones that prevailed have built brand awareness and nurtured brand relationships more easily than ever before. They also leveraged digital media to rapidly grow their sales through performance-based advertising campaigns. Campaigns solely focused on the optimization of ROI via the tracking of online user activity. They have adopted a smart mindset, taking advantage of technology to enjoy a closer relationship with consumers. Two types of advertising have flourished in paid social networks and search engines: branding and performance. However, are they truly opposite models? This thesis seeks to answer this question from a complementary point of view, which is consolidated by the analysis of a case study where performance is at the service of a typical branding campaign

O respeitabilíssimo conselheiro Acácio, talvez a personagem de maior sucesso e longevidade da galeria queirosiana, destaca-se, antes do mais, pela impecável cortesia verbal e gestual. Neste artigo, tentaremos entender e descrever a peculiar utilização dos códigos da cortesia e da urbanidade no desenho desta imortal personagem d’ O Primo Basílio. Atualizando uma espécie de ‘dicionário dos lugares-comuns’, a personagem pode mesmo, em nosso entender, considerar-se quase inteiramente construída pelo discurso da cortesia. Procuraremos, pois, aqui elucidar o modo como, neste romance de Eça, a convergência e o contraste entre tais códigos – nos domínios físico, discursivo, axiológico – são maioritariamente responsáveis pela criação do efeito irónico e pelo essencial do desenho da personagem

A experiência da Quinta da Malagueira (1977): ensinamentos e cautelas na concretização da habitação de custos-controlados, para uma arquitectura avisada

Retomando o tema da procura de soluções habitacionais que considerem os desejos e necessidades dos seus habitantes, não descurando as relações família/vizinhança e ainda comunidade/cidade, votadas maioritariamente a estratos populacionais carenciados, mas com alguma capacidade económica para aceder a uma habitação não precária – ainda que sustentada em apoios sociais (públicos ou comunitários) –, pretende-se nesta comunicação analisar a Quinta da Malagueira (Évora, 1977), projectada por Álvaro Siza, enquanto projecto de intervenção habitacional que visa uma integração urbana coesa. Trata-se de um Projecto Habitacional de custos-controlados, de referência na arquitectura portuguesa, não só pelas suas tácitas implicações ideológicas, éticas e políticas, mas também por abordar o tema da “casa” com soluções que se prendem nomeadamente com uma análise metodológica de tipologias adequadas e evolutivas, numa estreita relação com a morfologia do bairro perante uma leitura coerente do lugar, e com a experiência de um processo participativo de sucesso. Mas será que a Quinta da Malagueira é um modelo exemplar, ou um caso único? Afinal, que lições se retiram da experiência da Quinta da Malagueira? Apresentação de trabalho profissional

Trabalho de natureza profissional para a atribuição do Título de Especialista do Instituto Politécnico do Porto, na área de Recursos Humanos, defendido a 15-07-2016.Por forma a cumprir com as exigências do Regulamento para Atribuição do Título de Especialista do Instituto Politécnico do Porto (Despacho IPP/P-106/2011), designadamente no ponto 1 do Artigo 6º, a docente aprenta um trabalho constante do seu currículo prossional. Optou por apresentar o trabalho de consultoria desenvolvido na Delegação de Fafe da Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa, entre 2013 e 2014, por considerar o mesmo um exemplo significativo de aplicação dos conhecimentos na área de especialidade à qual se candidata, a saber, Recursos Humanos. No âmbito do projeto PRIO - Promover Redes Inovação e Oportunidades, promovido pela EAPN Portugal - European Anti-Poverty Network, foi consultora na Delegação de Fafe da Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa (DFCVP) (ver Anexo 1). O objetivo do projeto PRIO foi o de melhorar o desempenho gestionário das organizações participantes com vista à promoção da sua sustentabilidade e da sua intervenção. Tratou-se de um projeto de consultoria e formação em áreas diagnosticas em cada organização como prioritárias. No caso da DFCVP, a intervenção centrou-se na área da Gestão e Desenvolvimento de Recursos Humanos (GDRH). Com efeito, com base nas necessidades diagnosticadas ao nível das políticas e práticas de gestão de pessoas, apoiou no desenvolvimento de um conjunto de instrumentos de apoio à GDRH, a saber: i) os procedimentos de recrutamento, seleção acolhimento e integração de trabalhadores remunerados e voluntários; ii) a descrição e análise de funções; iii) desenho da metodologia de gestão de desempenho; iii) o organograma, entre outros. Apresenta-se de seguida a metodologia utilizada na consultoria, bem como os dois principais produtos que resultantes do trabalho: o Manual de Funções (Anexo 4) e o Manual de Procedimentos de GRH (Anexo 5)

Estruturas contrastivas : desenvolvimento do conhecimento explícito e da competência de escrita

Tese de doutoramento, Linguística (Linguística Educacional), Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Letras, 2010.Esta dissertação, inscrita em Linguística Educacional, é um estudo sobre ensino da gramática em língua materna e desenvolvimento da competência de escrita. Com o trabalho experimental desenvolvido, que avalia a existência de correlações entre ensino da gramática, desenvolvimento linguístico tardio e competência de escrita, este estudo contribui com evidências de que o ensino explícito da língua estimula o desenvolvimento de níveis superiores de mestria de língua e facilita a mobilização de conhecimento linguístico em situações de escrita. Com a finalidade de contextualizar a questão geral de investigação – será que o conhecimento explícito tem uma correlação positiva com o desenvolvimento da escrita? –, no Capítulo 2, introduzem-se as questões em torno do ensino da escrita e do ensino da gramática. O Capítulo 3 apresenta a análise de estruturas contrastivas na gramática do português europeu do adulto e uma reflexão sobre aquisição de concessivas e desenvolvimento linguístico tardio. A análise das estruturas contrastivas é apresentada em função da relevância deste conhecimento linguístico para a construção de textos de carácter argumentativo, na medida em que contribui com (i) riqueza lexical, (ii) fluência sintáctica, (iii) especificidade semântica e (iv) complexidade na estrutura informacional. O capítulo 4 é dedicado à explicitação do desenho experimental e da fundamentação metodológica, seguindo-se a apresentação dos resultados da análise quantitativa da fase de diagnóstico e da fase de intervenção didáctica. Com o Capítulo 5, discutem-se as questões decorrentes da análise dos resultados, procedendo-se a uma análise qualitativa de alguns dados de produção, de forma a fundamentar algumas explicações para o carácter tardio da aquisição de concessivas e para a natureza do conhecimento envolvido neste processo de desenvolvimento tardio. A questão da aquisição de concessivas é enquadrada no âmbito mais vasto do desenvolvimento linguístico em áreas de variação. Por fim, no Capítulo 6, sistematizam-se respostas às questões de investigação, à luz de uma síntese dos resultados, hipóteses de trabalho futuro e implicações para o ensino da língua materna.This dissertation, on Educational Linguistics, is a study on grammar teaching in mother language and on the development of writing skills. With the experimental study developed, which assesses the existence of correlations between grammar teaching, late language acquisition and writing skills, this study provides evidence for the claim that explicit language teaching stimulates the development of higher levels of mastery in language and facilitates the use of language knowledge in the context of writing. Aiming at contextualizing the general research question – does explicit knowledge correlate positively with the development of writing?, in Chapter 2, several issues concerning the teaching of writing and the teaching of grammar are introduced. Chapter 3 presents the analysis of contrastive structures in adult European Portuguese grammar and a reflection about the acquisition of concessive clauses and about late linguistic development. The analysis of contrastive structures focuses on the relevance of this linguistic knowledge for the construction of texts of the argumentative type, insofar as it contributes with (i) lexical richness, (ii) syntactic fluency, (iii) semantic specificity, and (iv) complexity in information structure. Chapter 4 explicitly presents the experimental design and the methodological background. It is followed by the presentation of the results of the quantitative analysis of the diagnosis stage and of the didactic intervention stage. In Chapter 5, a discussion of results is provided. For this, a qualitative analysis of some production data is carried on, aiming at explaining the late nature of the acquisition of concessive structures and the type of knowledge involved in the late development process. The problems related to the acquisition of concessive structures are couched within the more general issue of language development in domains of variation. Finally, Chapter 6 offers a systematization of answers to the research questions, based on a synthesis of the results. In pursuit of a healthy city: Bouça Housing Complex by Álvaro Siza (1977), a lesson to retain

Being interested in improving the physical and mental well-being of an urban society means, above all, being concerned about the state of health of the people and their cities. If we believe that health results mainly from the influence of the physical and social environments, which promotes a certain lifestyle, then the role of the city in generating health is extremely relevant. We’re aware that a healthy city is much more than a city that has good health care services, with decent houses and safe surroundings. It also has to provide the community with a variety of experiences and resources. There’s no doubt that safety and accessibility are vital criteria, but aren’t community and identity also relevant? What makes a city healthy? How can we improve that health? What are the available mechanisms from the architectural point of view? The Bouça Housing Complex was designed by Álvaro Siza (1973-77), promoted by a governmental program (SAAL), to create social housing for poor people in Porto, Portugal. It´s a housing solution of duplex apartments, arranged through patios and landscaped spaces, in the center of the city. Although it was made with controlled costs, the architect managed a housing solution that´s still a success. What is its secret? Nowadays, it’s mostly inhabited by young couples and middle class families living together with the old inhabitants, creating a renovated neighborhood with character and identity, providing mutual support. But how relevant is these people’s connection with the city? What is the real meaning of neighborliness, concerning urban health? In this paper I intent to reflect about the main decisions of this example by Álvaro Siza, to enhance the importance of the relationship between the physical and the social environment, promoting connectedness and neighborliness as parameters that embody a likely solution for an eminent health problem that cities are facing, gauging the role of architecture in our contemporary society.info:eu-repo/semantics/submittedVersio

Towards an architecture of emotions: the example of SESC|Pompeia by Lina Bo Bardi

ABSTRACT In SESC|Pompeia designed by Lina Bo Bardi, there’s a big atrium that links several exhibit, reading and living spaces, a stream where the water reflects the zenithal light, and a fireplace that not only warms up the air but also entertains. It’s a public covered "plaza" where one can play around, read in silence, stare at the reflections of the water or the fire, or simply seize the moment in peace, right in the center of the city. All these elements (light, water and fire) convey an absolutely peaceful atmosphere, interfering subtly with the state of mind of the users. Somehow its architecture dictates the rules, imposing harmony. So we wonder: In what way can architecture interfere with the state of mind of its inhabitant? How does architecture use space, light and matter to affect one’s mood? What methodological tools are available to measure emotional effects caused by an architectural experience? SESC|Pompeia is a Culture and Leisure Center located in Vila Pompeia (São Paulo-Brazil), built in 1982, where each detail emphasizes Lina’s intentions to reconcile the traditional techniques (evident in the rehabilitated expression of the pre-existences) with a Modern language (expressed in the “new” concrete buildings). It was a visionary and sensitive type of architecture, rooted in simplicity. Lina's intention wasn’t the submission of architecture to the site but rather the enrichment of both through its profound comprehension, adding some vernacular culture and poetry. Lina's architecture always had a social purpose, being extremely humanized, resulting from a comprehensive look at the city, its daily life, its rituals, its organization and its needs, but never neglecting the site, the context and the users. What are the elements that make her architecture so powerful, inducing emotional impact on people?
