    Excellent luminous flux of WLEDs with flat dual-layer remote phosphor geometry

    This paper focuses on the comparison of the luminous flux of two dual-remote phosphor structures named flat dual-remote phosphor (FDRP) and concave dual-remote phosphor (CDRP). These two configurations have different luminous flux values due to the disparity in scattering properties in white LEDs. However, the researched results showed that FDRP structure is more lucrative than the CDRP structure when it comes to the luminous flux effectiveness. To support the aforementioned idea, this article also presents the influence of the distance between two phosphor layers (d1) and the distance between the phosphor layer with the LED surface (d2) on the optical properties of the FDRP structure. Specifically, the scattering ability and absorption properties of the remote phosphor layer will vary sharply if d1 and d2 are adjusted into different values, which produces an immense impact on the chromatic homogeneity and illumination capability of WLEDs. Therefore, in order to stabilize the correlated color temperature (CCT) of WLEDs at 8500 K when there is a modification on d1 and d2, the concentration of YAG:Ce3+ phosphor also needs to be varied. Accordingly, the scattering process and absorption phenomenon in the remote phosphor layer will bottom out when d1 = d2 = 0,  leading to the worst color quality and luminous flux. The effect of the spectra generated as these distances are adjusted is obvious evidence for this point. In other words, the larger the d1 and d2, the larger the scattering surface, and thus the blending of blue and yellow light rays will become more homogeneous, yielding the smallest white light deflection and the lowest luminous flux at the same time. The paper's results indicated that the luminous flux will reach a peak at 1020 lm if d1 = 0.08 mm or d2 = 0.63 mm and the chromatic deflection will hit the lowest point as d1 = 0.64 mm or d2 = 1.35 mm. In the end, manufacturers can make their choice for the production of higher-standard WLEDs based on the general knowledge and helpful information that the article has provided and analyzed

    Improving luminous flux and color homogeneity of dual-layer phosphor sctructure

    In order to clarify the main purpose of the study, we put a green phosphor layer SrBaSiO4:Eu2+ on the yellow phosphorus layer YAG:Ce3+ through using only one WLEDs structure in different color temperatures like 5600 K, 6600 K, 7700K. Then, we find the suitable SrBaSiO4:Eu2+ concentration in order that the luminous flux could get the highest value. The results show that SrBaSiO4:Eu2+ brings great benefits to increase not only optical gain but also color uniformity. Specifically, the greater the SrBaSiO4:Eu2+ concentration, the greater the output of WLEDs because of the development of green light component in WLEDs. However, only if the SrBaSiO4:Eu2+ concentration exceeds the level, a slight decrease in color rendering index (CRI) can occur, which based on Monte Carlo simulation. In addition, the results of this paper have contributed significantly to the creation of higher-powered WLEDs

    Preliminary design of a satellite observation system for Space Station Freedom

    Degobah Satellite Systems (DSS), in cooperation with the University Space Research Association (USRA), NASA - Johnson Space Center (JSC), and the University of Texas, has completed the preliminary design of a satellite system to provide inexpensive on-demand video images of all or any portion of Space Station Freedom (SSF). DSS has narrowed the scope of the project to complement the work done by Mr. Dennis Wells at Johnson Space Center. This three month project has resulted in completion of the preliminary design of AERCAM, the Autonomous Extravehicular Robotic Camera, detailed in this design report. This report begins by providing information on the project background, describing the mission objectives, constraints, and assumptions. Preliminary designs for the primary concept and satellite subsystems are then discussed in detail. Included in the technical portion of the report are detailed descriptions of an advanced imaging system and docking and safing systems that ensure compatibility with the SSF. The report concludes by describing management procedures and project costs

    Experiments of photosynthesis assessment of phytoplankton and seaweed had been carried out in Thi Nai lagoon in rainy season (October, 2013) and dry season (May, 2014). The results showed that primary productivity of phytoplankton was 8 - 149 mgC/m3/day, and that productivity of seaweed Gracilaria verrucosa was 0.139 - 0.197 mg C/g seaweed/day. During photosynthesis process of phytoplankton, an amount of 1.42 - 1.6 tons mineral nitrogen/day and 0.14 - 0.17 tons phosphate/day was consumed in the whole lagoon. The photosynthesis process of seaweed also consumed an amount of 0.74 - 0.83 tons/day of inorganic nitrogen (including nitrate, nitrite, and ammonium), and 0.041 - 0.045 tons/day of phosphate in the whole lagoon.Các thí nghiệm đánh giá khả năng quang hợp của thực vật nổi và rong biển đã được thực hiện tại đầm Thị Nại (Bình Định) vào mùa mưa (tháng 10/2013) và mùa khô (tháng 5/2014). Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy năng suất sơ cấp của thực vật nổi và rong câu chỉ vàng Gracilaria verrucosa nằm trong khoảng 8 - 149 mgC/m3/ngày và khoảng 0,135 - 0,197 mgC/g rong/ngày. Trong quá trình quang hợp, thực vật nổi làm tiêu hao khoảng 1,42 - 1,6 tấn khoáng nitơ/ngày và 0,14 - 0,17 tấn phôtphat/ngày. Tương tự, quần xã rong trong đầm cũng làm tiêu hao khoảng 0,74 - 0,83 tấn/ngày các dinh dưỡng nitơ vô cơ và 0,041 - 0,045 tấn phôtphat/ngày trên toàn đầm Thị Nại

    Four megastigmans 7-megastigmene-3-ol-9-one 3-O-[α-L-arabinofuranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranoside]  (1),  alangionoside L (2),  alangioside (3), ampelopsisionoside (4), and other constituents as N–trans-feruloyloctopamide (5), trans-linalool-3,6-oxide-β-D-glucopyranoside (6),  5α,8α-dipioxiergosta-6,22-diene-3β-ol (7), and (Z)-2-hexenyl β-D-glucopyranoside (8) were isolated from the methanol extract of the Antidesma hainanensis leaves. Their chemical structures were successfully determined using NMR and ESI-MS analysis as well as in comparison with the reported data. This is the first report of these compounds from Euphorbiaceae family

    In vitro antioxidant activity and bioactive compounds from Calocybe indica

    Nowadays, the use of mushrooms in medicine is ubiquitous and has achieved particular success. The antioxidants in mushrooms can deactivate free radicals. This study assesses the antioxidant potential of mushroom Calocybe indica with the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical and 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging methods and the total antioxidant capacity. The mushroom’s ethanol extract exhibits acceptable activity with a low IC50 value (240.11 μg/mL), approximately 2.9 times lower than that of the mushroom Ophiocordyceps sobolifera extract. The ABTS scavenging rate of the extract is around 60% at 500 µg/mL, and the total antioxidant capacity is equivalent to 64.94 ± 1.03 mg of GA/g or 77.42 ± 0.42 μmol of AS/g.  The total phenolics, flavonoids, polysaccharides, and triterpenoids are equivalent to 29.33 ± 0.16 mg of GAE/g, 17.84 ± 0.11 mg of QUE/g (5.04 ± 0.04%), and 4.96 ± 0.04 mg of oleanolic acid/g, respectively. Specifically, the total triterpenoid content has been reported for the first time. The mushroom can have potential biomedical applications

    Assessment of Pollution Load into Thi Nai Lagoon, Viet Nam and Prediction to 2025

    Abstract: Based on the statistical data of social-economic state and development planning to 2025 of Binh Dinh province, the pollution load from development activities has been calculated by using the environmental rapid assessment method. The results showed that development activities in Binh Dinh province create about 30.7, thousand tons of COD;17.1 thousand tons of BOD; 9.1 thousand tons of Nitrogen; 6.5 thousand tons of Phosphorous and 379 thousand tons of TSS from living activities, aquaculture, industry, farming and land leaching. Until 2025, this amount will be increased 1.4 -2.6 times. The main pollution sources are from living activities including residents and tourists and livestock farming. Therefore, treatment of waste from these sources is very necessary to minimize the waste amount discharged into the Thi Nai Lagoon

    Chemical Components of Essential Oils From the Leaves of Seven Species Belonging to Rutaceae Family from Binh Chau-Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve, Vietnam

    Several plant species of the Rutaceae family are medicinal plants, oil bearing and food crops. To provide more information for utilization of some species of this family in Binh Chau-Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve, we extracted essential oils from the leaves of seven species of the Rutaceae family: Acronychia pedunculata (L.) Miq., Atalantia citroides Pierre ex Guillaumin, Clausena excavata Burm.f., Glycosmis pentaphylla (Retz.) DC., Luvunga scandens (Roxb.) Buch.-Ham. ex Wight & Arn, Melicope pteleifolia (Champ. ex Benth.) T.G. Hartley, and Micromelum sp., via hydrodistillation, and identified their components using GC/MS analysis. A total of 60 compounds were identified from essential oils of seven species. The main components of the essential oils isolated from five species, including A. pedunculata, C. excavata, M. pteleifolia, G. pentaphylla, and Micromelum sp., were caryophyllene (57.63% and 55.41% in A. pedunculata and C. excavata, respectively), 1,9-decadiyne (32.59%, M. pteleifolia), β-ocimene (23.10%, G. pentaphylla), and 3-carene (58.03%, Micromelum sp.). Additionally, this study revealed the chemical composition of essential oils of L. scandens and A. citroides for the first time. The main constituent of A. citroides was 7-oxabicyclo[4.1.0] heptane, 3-oxiranyl- (53.91%) and that of L. scandens was caryophyllene (34.66%). These findings provide the basis for further application of these species in medicine

    Effect of light-touch intervention and associated factors to microbial contamination at small-scale pig slaughterhouses and traditional pork shops in Vietnam

    Traditional pork value chains dominate the production and distribution of pork in Vietnam; however, the high level of microbiological contamination in pork may increase the risk of food-borne disease for consumers. There is limited evidence about how to feasibly and scalably reduce microbial contamination in pork sold in traditional markets. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of light-touch interventions for changing worker behaviour in small-scale slaughterhouses and vendors at traditional pork shops, as well as to identify risk factors for pork contamination. The intervention packages consisted of providing hygiene tools and delivering a food safety training which had been designed in a participatory way and covered 10 small-scale slaughterhouses and 29 pork shops. Pig carcasses, retailed pork, contact surfaces, and hands were sampled to measure the total bacterial count (TBC) and Salmonella contamination before, three and six weeks after the intervention, and trainee practices were observed at the same time. Linear and generalized linear mixed effects models were constructed to identify risk factors for TBC and Salmonella contamination at the slaughterhouses and pork shops. The interventions at slaughterhouses and pork shops both showed a slight reduction of TBC contamination in pig carcasses and Salmonella prevalence in retailed pork, while the TBC in retailed pork decreased only marginally. For slaugh-terhouses, the regression model indicated that smoking or eating during slaughtering (indicating poor hygienic practices) was associated with TBC increasing, while cleaning floors and wearing boots reduced TBC contami-nation. For pork shops, using rough materials (cardboard or wood) to display pork was the only factor increasing TBC contamination in pork, whereas cleaning knives was associated with lower TBC. Besides, the presence of supporters and wearing aprons reduced the probability of Salmonella contamination in pork. The findings highlight the effectiveness of light-touch interventions in reducing microbial contamination in pig carcasses at small-scale slaughterhouses and pork at traditional shops over the study period
