Extrema of polynomials with real roots and Diophantine equations

There are many results in the literature concerning polynomial values and (shifted) power values of polynomials with consecutive integer roots, or more generally, with roots forming an arithmetic progression. It is an interesting question that how far one can ‘disturb’ the structure of the roots such that the finiteness results still remain valid. Also there are many results into this direction, with adding or removing one or more terms (roots). In this paper we study a case where (part of) the symmetric root structure is preserved, however, we allow (possibly large) increasing gaps between the roots. We prove that the finiteness of the solutions can also be guaranteed under these generalized circumstances. In our proofs we combine Baker's method and the Bilu-Tichy theorem with a new result providing an increasing property of the extremal values of polynomials with distinct real roots satisfying certain symmetry and increasing gap properties

Improvement of Biogas Production by Bioaugmentation

Biogas production technologies commonly involve the use of natural anaerobic consortia of microbes. The objective of this study was to elucidate the importance of hydrogen in this complex microbial food chain. Novel laboratory biogas reactor prototypes were designed and constructed. The fates of pure hydrogen-producing cultures of Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus and Enterobacter cloacae were followed in time in thermophilic and mesophilic natural biogas-producing communities, respectively. Molecular biological techniques were applied to study the altered ecosystems. A systematic study in 5-litre CSTR digesters revealed that a key fermentation parameter in the maintenance of an altered population balance is the loading rate of total organic solids. Intensification of the biogas production was observed and the results corroborate that the enhanced biogas productivity is associated with the increased abundance of the hydrogen producers. Fermentation parameters did not indicate signs of failure in the biogas production process. Rational construction of more efficient and sustainable biogas-producing microbial consortia is proposed

A Történeti Bibliográfia Kutatócsoport T 048930 számú OTKA-pályázatának keretében az 1951 és 1958 között Kosáry Domokos összeállításában megjelent bibliográfia két időrendi kötet kéziratának összeállításával foglalkozott (1. A Duna-medence múltja. Őstörténet, honfoglalás; 5. A Jagellók kora. Mohács, 1490-1526). 2005-2007 folyamán javítottuk és esetenként bővítettük a két kötet régi kéziratát, és átalakítottuk az újabb kiadás formai követelményei szerint. Könyvtári adatgyűjtést, adatpontosítást végeztünk az 1950-es évek vége óta megjelent vonatkozó, magyar és idegen nyelvű szakirodalom terén. A tételek egy része a II/5. kötet esetében a megszabott struktúrába bekerült, másik részük még cédulaformátumba a kézirat vonatkozó fejezetéhez van beosztva. Jelentős mennyiségű szakirodalmi adatot gyűjtöttünk és pontosítottunk történeti és régészeti szakfolyóiratokból, múzeumi évkönyvekből, illetve történeti bibliográfiákból, amelyek legnagyobb részét elektronikus formában rögzítettük. 2007 folyamán a kéziratokban az összegyűjtött szakirodalmi tétetek annotálását és a kézirat szerkesztését folytattuk. Ez a munka azonban Kosáry Domokos betegsége és Lappints Virág betegeskedése miatt nem fejeződött be. | During the OTKA grant (T 048930) the Hungarian Historical Bibliography Workshop was working on the manuscripts of two chronologal volumes (1. The prehistory of the Danubian Basin. The early history of the Hungarian people and the Hungarian conquest; 5. The Jagellowian period. Mohács, 1490?1526) of the up-to-date version of Domokos Kosáry?s historical bibliography that was originally published between 1951 and 1958. In the course of 2005-7, the two relevant sections of the original volumes were corrected and reedited in order to meet the formal requirements of the new edition. The members of the Workshop collected the Hungarian and foreign secondary literature of the half a century that had elapsed since the first edition. In the case of volume 5. a large portion of the newly gathered items of secondary literature has been incorporated into the original manuscript, the rest of the items are still in note form and have only been subdivided according to the relevant chapters. A considerable amount of new secondary liturature has been collected for volume 1 as well from historical and archeological periodicals, museum yearbooks and historical bibliographies. The latter items are stored electronically. In 2007, the members of the Workshop continued the annotation and the edition of the manuscripts. This work, however, has not been completed due to the illness and subsequent death of the Workshop's head Domokos Kosáry and the illness and later maternity leave of Virág Lappints

A Bevezetés Magyarország történetének forrásaiba és irodalmába c. levéltári útmutató és annotált bibliográfia új kiadásának 4. kötete a történeti Magyarország (jelenleg részint Ausztria, Szlovákia, Ukrajna, Románia Szerbia) és a Horvátország területén található városi, mezővárosi és községi levéltárakat, illetve a magyarországi múzeumok kézirattári és gyűjteményi anyagait mutatja be az írásbeliség kezdeteitől 1848-ig. A projekt eredményeként elkészült kéziratban (1804 oldal) a szomszédos országok területéről 498, Magyarország területéről 535 település szerepel. A bevezető tanulmányok bemutatják a városi és mezővárosi levéltárak kialakulását, a jelenlegi önkormányzati levéltárak történetét és helyzetét. A levéltári és kézirattári anyag tartalmi és terjedelmi leírása mellett a kézirat alapos és kiterjedt, döntő részében értékelő tájékoztatást ad a települések történetére vonatkozóan 2011-ig megjelent magyar és idegen nyelvű szakirodalomról, az önálló kiadványokról, évkönyv- és folyóiratcikkekről egyaránt. A múzeumokban őrzött dokumentumok bemutatása, figyelemmel az intézmények kiállítás orientált egyedi nyilvántartási rendszerére az általános leírás mellett a kiemelt fontosságú családi, személyi, uradalmi és céhes iratok bemutatására koncentrált. | The fourth volume of the new, up-dated edition of the historical handbook and annotated bibliography, the Introduction to the primary sources and secondary literature on the history of Hungary surveys the city, town and village archives of historical Hungary (covering besides Hungary parts of present day Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania and Serbia) and Croatia as well as the manuscript and archival collections of Hungarian museums. The chronological scope of the volume is from the beginnings until 1848. As the result of the project, the manuscript of the volume (altogether 1804 pages) contains data on 498 settlements in neighbouring countries and on 535 settlements in present day Hungary. The introduction provides an overview of the historical development of the archival collections of cities and towns as well as that of the current municipal archives. For each and every settlement the volume comprises a detailed description of the primary sources with an indication of the size of the source material. It also supplies a mostly annotated bibliographical survey of the secondary literature on the settlements up to 2011. The presentation of archival materials of the museums was made difficult by the specialised, exhibition orientated approach of the museum cataloguing systems. Szenior versenyúszók antropometriai értékeinek, életminőségének és táplálkozásának felmérése

összefoglalás: Régi új igazság, hogy a fizikai aktivitás egészséges, amit évezredek tapasztalatai és modern kutatások bizonyítanak. Ez azért aktuális hazánkban, mert a magyar lakosságra jellemző, hogy keveset mozog, és ez az egyik oka, hogy magas az elhízottak és túlsúlyosak aránya. A kutatás célja volt egyrészt vizsgálni a szenior versenyúszás, mint fizikai aktivitás hatását a testösszetételre és életminőségre, másrészt a táplálkozási szokások felmérése. A felmérésben részt vett szenior versenyúszók (n = 93) testzsír % és vázizomtömeg értékei jobbak voltak a referenciaértékekhez képest. A felmért csoport életminősége is kedvező értékeket mutatott a magyar lakosság átlagértékeihez képest minden korcsoportban. A táplálkozásuk nagyobb arányban felelt meg az ajánlottnak, ám emellett is sok hiányosság volt kimutatható. Következtetésképpen a szakirodalmi adatok és a felmérés alapján elmondható, hogy a szenior versenyúszás pozitív hatással lehet a testösszetételre és életminőségre. Emellett az életmód másik fontos tényezője a helyes táplálkozás tudatosítása fontos elem lehetne az egészségfejlesztés részeként. is not a new statement that physical activity has a positive effect on health which is proved by experiences of centuries and modern researches. It is always relevant because Hungarian population has an inadequate level of physical activity what is one of the several reasons that the prevalence of obesity is high. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Masters swimming on body composition and quality of life and to analyze nutrition. The data showed that masters swimmers (n = 93) have better body fat percentage and skeletal muscle mass values compared to the reference values. The quality of life scores were as well better compared to the average scores of the Hungarian population. The nutrition of the Masters swimmers was adequate in higher proportion than non-adequate compared to the nutritional recommendations but there was a considerable amount of inadequacies. In conclusion, according to the data of scientific literature and this study, masters swimming can have a positive effect on body composition and quality of life. Besides, to promote health it is recommended to improve nutrition which an important life style factor
