Heterologous expression of AtNPR1 gene in olive for increasing fungal tolerance

The NPR1 gene encodes a key component of SAR signaling mediated by salicylic acid (SA). After a pathogen infection, the accumulation of SA releases NPR1 monomers in the cytosol that are translocated to the nucleus, activating the expression of pathogenesis-related (PR) genes. Overexpression of NPR1 has conferred resistance to fungal, viral and bacterial pathogens in several plant species. The aim of this research was to generate transgenic olive plants expressing the gene AtNPR1 from Arabidopsis thaliana to obtain material resistant to fungal pathogens. Three transgenic lines expressing AtNPR1 gene under the control of the constitutive promoter CaMV35S were obtained following the protocol of Torreblanca et al. (2010), using an embryogenic line derived from a seed of cv. Picual. Level of AtNPR1 expression in transgenic calli varied greatly among the different lines, being higher in the line NPR1-780. The elicitation of embryogenic calli in liquid medium with AS did not increase endochitinase activity, a PR protein. However, jasmonic acid induced a transient increase in chitinase activity after 24 h of treatment in all the lines, being the increment higher in transgenic NPR1 than in control. After maturation and germination of transgenic somatic embryos, plants were micropropagated and acclimated to ex vitro conditions. The expression of AtNPR1 did not alter the growth of transgenic plants neither in vitro nor in the greenhouse. “Methodology comparative analysis” in the solar decathlon competition: a proposed housing model based on a prefabricated structural system

The construction sector, by direct or indirect actions, consumes more than 40% of the global energy produced and is responsible for 30% of CO2 emissions. It is a need of the construction industry to transform its practices and processes by proposing systems of lower demand to the environment. In this sense, closed prefabrication and industrialization as a constructive processcould be the key to seek savings and efficiency from its origin to the end of life of buildings. In this context, this article presents a methodological proposal of quantitative, qualitative and comparative analysis of the structural systems of eight prototypes presented in the “Solar Decathlon” contest in its North-American and Latin-American editions (both of them in 2015) and the European edition (in2014). This methodology deduces the characteristics of a structural system of lower environmental demand and the characteristics of these constructive processes, in favor of a new paradigm of sustainability and to be applied in innovative systems of new housing model

Properties of the (n, m)−fold hyperspace suspension of continua

Let n, m ∈ N with m ≤ n and X be a metric continuum. We consider the hyperspaces Cn(X) (respectively, Fn(X)) of all nonempty closed subsets of X with at most n components (respectively, n points). The (n, m)−fold hyperspace suspension on X was introduced in 2018 by Anaya, Maya, and Vázquez-Juárez, to be the quotient space Cn(X)/Fm(X) which is obtained from Cn(X) by identifying Fm(X) into a one-point set. In this paper we prove that Cn(X)/Fm(X) contains an n−cell; Cn(X)/Fm(X) has property (b); Cn(X)/Fm(X) is unicoherent; Cn(X)/Fm(X) is colocally connected; Cn(X)/Fm(X) is aposyndetic; and Cn(X)/Fm(X) is finitely aposyndeticSean n, m ∈ N con m ≤ n y X es un continuo métrico. Impacto de la implementación de la metodología Lean Manufacturing en la producción de la microempresa D’J. Lo Servicios Generales E. I. R. L. en el año 2016

RESUMEN El presente estudio tiene como finalidad determinar el impacto de la implementación de la metodología Lean Manufacturing en la producción de la microempresa D’J. Lo Servicios Generales E.I.R.L. en el año 2016, a partir del análisis, diagnóstico y la implementación de algunas herramientas de Lean Manufacturing: Mapeo de cadena de valor, herramienta de las 5S, rediseño de Layout, estandarización de procesos y el takt time. En el análisis de la situación problemática de la empresa se identificaron problemas que han sido detectados mediante el uso de las herramientas: Diagrama de Ishikawa, Diagrama de Pareto y el levantamiento del mapa de cadena de valor actual, entre los principales tenemos: falta de orden y limpieza, movimientos innecesarios, no existe un flujo lineal en los procesos por la inadecuada distribución de planta, elevado tiempo en la realización de algunos procesos, métodos y técnicas utilizados manual y artesanalmente. Es por esto que se planteó y se implementó algunas de las herramientas de la metodología Lean Manufacturing, como solución a estos problemas. Luego de implementadas las herramientas Lean Manufacturing se logró impactar considerablemente en los indicadores siguientes: incremento de la producción en un 66.67%, incremento de la productividad total en un 26.01%, incremento de la productividad laboral en un 66.67%, reducción del takt time en un 40.00%, incremento del ratio de valor añadido en un 69.15%, además de la reducción del tiempo en transporte entre las estaciones de trabajo en un 66.67% y la reducción del tiempo ocioso en un 10.31%. Según el análisis económico del monto invertido para la implementación de la metodología Lean Manufacturing, tanto el Valor Actual Neto (VAN) y la Tasa Interna de Retorno (TIR), nos muestran resultados positivos, por lo tanto el proyecto es viable económicamente.ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the impact of the implementation of Lean Manufacturing production company D'J. What General Services E.I.R.L. in 2016, from the analysis, diagnosis and the implementation of some tools of Lean Manufacturing: Value Stream Mapping, 5S tool, layout redesign, standardization of processes and takt time. Ishikawa diagram, Pareto chart and lifting map current value chain, among the main ones: In the analysis of the problematic situation of the company problems that have been detected by using the tools identified lack of order and cleaning unnecessary movements, there is no linear flow processes by inadequate distribution plant, high time in performing some processes, methods and techniques used manually and by hand. This was the reason for implementing some of the tools of Lean Manufacturing, as a solution to these problems. After implemented the Lean Manufacturing tools are able to impact significantly on the following indicators: production increase in a 66.67%, increase in total productivity by 26.01%, increase in labor productivity by 66.67%, reduced takt time in 40.00%, increase in the ratio of added value in a 69.15%, plus time reduction in transport between workstations in a 66.67% and reduced time idle in a 10.31%. According to the economic analysis of the amount invested for the implementation of Lean Manufacturing, both net (NPV) Present Value and Internal Rate of Return (IRR), show positive results, therefore the project is economically viable

Analysis of the consumption of sports supplements in elite fencers according to sex and competitive level

Background: The aim of this study was to analyze the consumption of sports supplements (SS) in competitive level fencers and compare differences based on sex and competitive level (international and national). Methods: A total of 49 fencers (18 men and 31 women) of national (n = 16) and international (n = 33) level completed a questionnaire with questions about SS consumption and the possible repercussions on health and / or sports performance. The results were analyzed based on the different categorizations established by the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), as well as by sex and level of competence to which the participants belonged to. Results: 46.9% of fencers have consumed SS with the main motivation being performance improvement (34.2%). Medical doctors were the individuals who were more likely to advise men to consume SS (50.0% vs 5.6%; OR = 3.29 [1.50–7.20]). Friends were most likely to advise women (38.9% vs 8.3%; OR = 1.75 [1.05–2.93]). The most consumed SS were sport drinks (44.9%), vitamin C (43.4%), sport bars (38.8%), and caffeine (28.6%). In regards to the SS categories, it was observed differences in the interaction level·sex in medical supplements (p = 0.017). In addition, there was a higher prevalence of whey protein consumption in women (25.8% vs 0%; p = 0.020) and iron consumption in men (33% vs 6.5%; p = 0.039). Conclusions: The prevalence of SS use in fencers is within the values previously reported in athletes of the same competitive level. There were no differences by sex and competitive level in the total consumption of SS, nor in each of the groups of level of evidence, being sport drinks, bars and caffeine the most consumed SS
