Saturation effect for dependence of the electrical conductivity of planar oriented nematic liquid crystal 6CB on the concentration of Cu7PS6 nanoparticles

Get PDF
The influence of Cu7PS6 nanoparticles with the average size 117 nm on the dielectric properties of planar oriented nematic liquid crystal 6CB has been investigated within the frequency range 10(1) ...10(6) Hz and at the temperature 293 K. It has been shown that when changing the concentration of nanoparticles within the range 0 to 1 wt.%, the conductivity of the liquid crystal changes stronger than its dielectric permittivity. It has been shown that the electrical conductivity increases monotonously with increasing the concentration of nanoparticles. However, for this dependence a saturation effect is observed. The mechanism of this effect was proposed.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Improving the effectiveness of treatment in patients with the consequences of diaphyseal fractures of the tibia (improperly fused, unfused fractures, pseudoarthrosis, bone defects) is one of the urgent problems of traumatology, which has not only medical but also important social significance. The aim of the study is to publish clinical experience in the use of closed and semi-open blocking intramedullary metal-polymer osteosynthesis (BIMPO) in the treatment of 125 patients with consequences of diaphyseal long bones fractures. An analysis of the use of closed and semi-open blocking intramedullary metal-polymer osteosynthesis (BIMPO) in 125 patients with fracture consequences (non-fused fractures, pseudoarthrosis), who were operated with the use of 3 and 8 BIMPOF. Long-term results were observed in 103 (88.89%) patients. The consolidation of the fracture in the optimal time was noted in 98 (94.64%) patients. Within 44-90 days from the operation, resistance and limb function were restored. No case of osteomyelitis was observed. This result is rated as good. The use of new generation of intramedullary metal-polymer clamps for the treatment of bone fractures and their consequences has provided a significant reduction in surgical trauma, which optimizes the process of anatomical and functional restoration of the limb.Improving the effectiveness of treatment in patients with the consequences of diaphyseal fractures of the tibia (improperly fused, unfused fractures, pseudoarthrosis, bone defects) is one of the urgent problems of traumatology, which has not only medical but also important social significance. We present a Michelson-Morley type experiment for testing the isotropy of the speed of light in vacuum and matter. The experiment compares the resonance frequency of a monolithic optical sapphire resonator with the resonance frequency of an orthogonal evacuated optical cavity made of fused silica while the whole setup is rotated on an air bearing turntable once every 45 s. Preliminary results yield an upper limit for the anisotropy of the speed of light in matter (sapphire) of \Delta c/c < 4x10^(-15), limited by the frequency stability of the sapphire resonator operated at room temperature. Work to increase the measurement sensitivity by more than one order of magnitude by cooling down the sapphire resonator to liquid helium temperatures (LHe) is currently under way.Comment: Presented at the Fifth Meeting on CPT and Lorentz Symmetry, Bloomington, Indiana, June 28-July 2, 201

The exploration, development and use of wetlands has a long time. More than half a century has been spent exploring these landscapes, but many issues are still controversial and debatable. There is no clear answer about the function of wetlands in nature, as well as their reactions to technological changes and stressors. The purpose of this article was to provide a theoretical analysis of current threats to the ecosystem functions of wetlands. We analyzed the meaning of the term «wetlands» in international, foreign and domestic environmental regulations. Here we looked at wetlands as unique natural complexes, their interaction with human activities and global climate change. We have found that despite the absence of one universal term «wetlands», the uniqueness of these natural complexes is recognized worldwide. The assessment of anthropogenic impacts and global climate change on their ecosystems is a topical area of research on the human environment. For example, nearly 60 per cent of the marshes in Ukraine have been drained, and worldwide wetlands have been lost between 64 and 71 per cent since 1900. In the structure of landscapes and cultural management, wetlands have four main functions - harvesting, regulation, culture and maintenance. Climate change scenarios increase stress factors such as land reclamation, resource exploitation, hydrological changes, pollution of wetlands and changes in the spatial distribution of species diversity. Increased temperatures are expected to reduce species diversity and alter wetland species composition. Scientific predictions suggest that agricultural land use may have a greater impact on wetland plant societies than future changes in hydrology based on climate change. All this makes them very vulnerable and requires that their ecosystems be protected.

Structure and Properties of Graphite-Molybdenum Brazed Joints

The paper presents the results of X-ray microspectral studies of dissimilar brazed joints of molybdenum with graphite. It is shown that during active brazing of graphite with molybdenum, mutual diffusion processes occur, and the adhesion-active brazing filler metals penetrates into graphite, and interacts with it, which leads to the formation of carbide phases. When using the Ti-Cr-V and Cu-Ti-Ni systems brazing filler metals, titanium carbides are formed. The zirconium carbides are formed, when using the brazing filler metals based on the Zr-Pd(Mo) systems and the CxMey(Mo, Cr) carbides are formed using the brazing filler metals of the Pd-Ni-Cr-Ge system. The results of tests for three-point bending showed that the using of Pd-Ni-Cr-Ge brazing filler metals provides stable strength at the level of 34-37 MPa, destruction occurs along graphite

The study presents the results of investigation of iodine deficiency condition on the bone tissue and healing post-traumatic bone defects under conditions of iodine deficiency. The experimental part of the study was performed on 63 randomized brand albino male rats of 3-month age. Peculiarities of the reparative osteogenesis were studied on the model of a traumatic injury simulated one-type in the proximal meta-diaphysis of the femoral bone irrespective of the experimental conditions in the frontal plane in the form of perforated defect. The defect was made by means of a drill 1mm in diameter. The results of the study are indicative of a negative effect of iodine deficiency produced on reparative osteogenesis manifested by inhibition of the process and associated with disorders in the formation of osseous regeneration, deterioration of the structural-functional state of the osseous tissue, development of degenerative-necrotic changes in the osseous tissue and epiphyseal cartilage. The study presents the results of investigation of iodine deficiency condition on the bone tissue and healing post-traumatic bone defects under conditions of iodine deficiency. The experimental part of the study was performed on 63 randomized brand albino male rats of 3-month age. Modern literature widely covers the role of selenium and necessity of its intake in case of different diseases, but the studies concerning the dynamics of concentration of this element in patients with injuries of the muscular- skeletal system (MSS) and cranial-cerebral injuries (CCI) are isolated. At the same time, investigation of selenium metabolism in case of injuries of the MSS and CCI and development of the correction schemes are generally known to enable to improve the results of treatment considerably and decrease the consequences of injuries. Objective: to investigate the concentration of selenium in biological fluids in patients with associate trauma.Materials and methods: 42 patients, treated at the Traumatological Department for adults and Neurosurgical Department of the Emergency Rescue Hospital in Chernivtsi, were examined. All the patients were distributed into 3 groups: І group – patients with severe CCI and injuries of the MSS requiring vital activity support; ІІ group – with moderate CCI and injuries of the MSS; ІІІ (control group) – with injuries of MSS only. Results: The data obtained are indicative of decreased selenium concentration in all the biological media of the body (plasma, erythrocytes, urine) during the whole post-traumatic period, both in patients with severe CCI and injuries of the MSS and those with a moderate degree. Conclusions: 1. Pronounced disorders of selenium metabolism are evidenced to occur in patients with severe CCI and MSS injuries, which are manifested by its decreased concentration in all the examined biological media of the body during the whole acute period of injury. 2. The lack of considerable differences in selenium concentration in patients with severe CCI and MSS injuries and with moderate injuries is indicative of non- specificity of the disorders found, since they are a typical pathologic process peculiar for traumatic injury of any genesis and localization. 3. The state of selenium metabolism does not possess correlations with other clinical and biochemical laboratory indices. 4. Selenium deficiency requires administration of pharmacological correction, for example, with Selenase which is essential both in acute and post-traumatic periods.Modern literature widely covers the role of selenium and necessity of its intake in case of different diseases, but the studies concerning the dynamics of concentration of this element in patients with injuries of the muscular- skeletal system (MSS) and cranial-cerebral injuries (CCI) are isolated.
