Digitalization of Demonstration Method of Teaching and Effective Vocational Skills Delivery in Ghana Tertiary Institutions

The purpose of this study was to investigate the difficulties tutors face when using the traditional demonstration method of teaching for vocational skills delivery especially in large class sizes. The study also aimed to modernise the demonstration method for effective vocational skills delivery in Ghana tertiary institutions. The study employed Solomon four quasi-experimental research design. The study targeted tutors and students offering textiles related (fabric and leather decoration) component of vocational skills programme in Ghana Colleges of Education. Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were used. The sample size for the study was 322 (320 students & tutors). The instruments used for data collection were interview guide, observation and skills achievement tests. The study revealed that tutors faced a lot of difficulties when using the traditional demonstration method of teaching for skills delivery in large vocational skills classes. The study also found that the students in experimental groups that were taught using the digital demonstration approach had higher scores on the skills achievement test conducted than those in the control groups that were taught using the traditional demonstration method of teaching. The study recommended that tutors should use digital demonstration method of teaching when vocational skills class size is large. Devices for effective use of the digital demonstration method should be provided to reduce the difficulties tutors faced when using the traditional demonstration method for skills delivery in large class sizes. Keywords: Traditional demonstration method of teaching, digital demonstration method of teaching, effective, large class sizes. DOI: 10.7176/ADS/84-05 Publication date:August 31st 202

Multidrug resistance of Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from medical centers of Batna (north-east Algeria)

The emergence of resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus is a major public health problem mainly in hospitals around the world and in Algeria in particular. This work aims to assess the resistance of Staphylococcus aureus in the University Hospital Center of Batna and the Hematology Unit of the Anti-Cancer Center using conventional standardized methods during a study period of four months. A total of  70 strains of S. aureus were isolated and their antibiotic susceptibility study showed significant resistance to β-lactam especially to penicillin (95.71%) and  61.43% to tobramycin. The methicillin-resistant strains (MRSA) formed 30%. Resistant strains to macrolide-lincosamide streptogramin B (MLSB) and aminoglycosides (KTG) classes presented 17.14% and 21.43% respectively. These results require a control plan by compliance with the hygiene conditions and the organization of the prescription of antibiotics and other molecular and epidemiological studies. The aim of this study was to explore the influence of pedagogical content knowledge competencies of Ghana senior high school textile teachers on the modernisation of indigenous Ghanaian textile industry. A cross-sectional survey design was used to collect both qualitative and quantitative data. The study targeted senior high school textile teachers, senior high school textile graduates and heads of visual arts department. The sample size for the study was 243 (225 teachers, 12 textile graduates & 6 HoDs).  Questionnaire, interview guide and observation were the research instruments employed for data collection. The result of H01 indicated that the pedagogical content knowledge of textile teachers has influence on the skills textile graduates needed to modernise the indigenous textile industry. The findings of the study also signposted that the pedagogical content knowledge of the textile teachers cannot enable the textile students to acquire the requisite skills needed to modernise the indigenous textile industry. The findings of the study indicated most of the Ghana senior high schools lacked textile training facilities and resources needed to modernise the indigenous textile industry. The study recommended that ministry of education should periodically sponsor textile teachers to have industrial attachments in both local and international renowned textile industries to learn modern content knowledge of textile manufacturing. There should also be periodic capacity building workshops on vocational skills pedagogical knowledge to enable the textile teachers effectively transmit the content knowledge to their students effectively. This chapter provides an overview of key concepts and theoretical perspectives used in the anthology and points out fundamental challenges in the practice of professional welfare. ‘Competence’ and ‘knowledge’ often have different meanings, and there is a need for increased awareness of the understanding of these concepts. This chapter highlights how the managerial discretion, learning, system blindness, power executing and paradoxes may cause tensions and how these in turn may inhibit the realization of required changes. Internal or external job recruitment may have an impact on managers’ freedom to act. To raise the quality and competence within the professional welfare services, it is necessary to be aware of the unique and multi-faceted challenges in the field

Automatic COVID-19 lung infected region segmentation and measurement using CT-scans images

History shows that the infectious disease (COVID-19) can stun the world quickly, causing massive losses to health, resulting in a profound impact on the lives of billions of people, from both a safety and an economic perspective, for controlling the COVID-19 pandemic. The best strategy is to provide early intervention to stop the spread of the disease. In general, Computer Tomography (CT) is used to detect tumors in pneumonia, lungs, tuberculosis, emphysema, or other pleura (the membrane covering the lungs) diseases. Disadvantages of CT imaging system are: inferior soft tissue contrast compared to MRI as it is X-ray-based Radiation exposure. Lung CT image segmentation is a necessary initial step for lung image analysis. The main challenges of segmentation algorithms exaggerated due to intensity in-homogeneity, presence of artifacts, and closeness in the gray level of different soft tissue. The goal of this paper is to design and evaluate an automatic tool for automatic COVID-19 Lung Infection segmentation and measurement using chest CT images. The extensive computer simulations show better efficiency and flexibility of this end-to-end learning approach on CT image segmentation with image enhancement comparing to the state of the art segmentation approaches, namely GraphCut, Medical Image Segmentation (MIS), and Watershed. Experiments performed on COVID-CT-Dataset containing (275) CT scans that are positive for COVID-19 and new data acquired from the EL-BAYANE center for Radiology and Medical Imaging. The means of statistical measures obtained using the accuracy, sensitivity, F-measure, precision, MCC, Dice, Jacquard, and specificity are 0.98, 0.73, 0.71, 0.73, 0.71, 0.71, 0.57, 0.99 respectively; which is better than methods mentioned above. The achieved results prove that the proposed approach is more robust, accurate, and straightforward
