K^- ^3He and K^+K^- interactions in the pd -> ^3He K^+K^- reaction
We investigate the K^- ^3He and K^+ K^- interactions in the reaction pd ->
^3He K^+ K^- near threshold and compare our model calculations with data from
the MOMO experiment at COSY-Juelich. A large attractive effective K^- p
amplitude would give a significant K^- ^3He final-state interaction effect
which is not supported by the experimental data. We also estimate upper limits
for the a_0(980) and f_0(980) contributions to the produced K^+ K^- pairs.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, accepted for publication in PR
Measurement of Interfering K^*+K^- and K^*-K^+ Amplitudes in the Decay D^0 --> K^+K^-pi^0
We have studied the Cabibbo-suppressed decay mode D^0 into K^+ K^- pi^0 using
a Dalitz plot technique and find the strong phase difference delta_D [defined
as delta_(K*^- K^+) - delta_(K*^+ K^-)] = 332 degrees +- 8 degrees +- 11
degrees and relative amplitude r_D [defined as a_(K*^- K^+) / a_(K*^+ K^-)] =
0.52 +- 0.05 +- 0.04. This measurement indicates significant destructive
interference between D^0 into K^+ (K^- pi^0)_K*^- and D^0 into K^- (K^+
pi^0)_K*^+ in the Dalitz plot region where these two modes overlap. This
analysis uses 9.0 fb^(-1) of data collected at s^(1/2) of approximately 10.58
GeV with the CLEO III detector.Comment: 10 pages postscript,also available through

Cross Sections for the Reactions e+e- --> K+ K- pi+pi-, K+ K- pi0pi0, and K+ K- K+ K- Measured Using Initial-State Radiation Events
We study the processes e+e- --> K+ K- pi+pi-gamma, K+ K- pi0pi0gamma, and K+
K- K+ K-gamma, where the photon is radiated from the initial state. About
84000, 8000, and 4200 fully reconstructed events, respectively, are selected
from 454 fb-1 of BaBar data. The invariant mass of the hadronic final state
defines the \epem center-of-mass energy, so that the K+ K- pi+pi- data can be
compared with direct measurements of the e+e- --> K+ K- pi+pi- reaction. No
direct measurements exist for the e+e- --> K+ K-pi0pi0 or e+e- --> K+ K-K+ K-
reactions, and we present an update of our previous result with doubled
statistics. Studying the structure of these events, we find contributions from
a number of intermediate states, and extract their cross sections. In
particular, we perform a more detailed study of the e+e- --> phi(1020)pipigamma
reaction, and confirm the presence of the Y(2175) resonance in the phi(1020)
f0(980) and K+K-f0(980) modes. In the charmonium region, we observe the J/psi
in all three final states and in several intermediate states, as well as the
psi(2S) in some modes, and measure the corresponding product of branching
fraction and electron width.Comment: 35 pages, 42 figure
Cross sections for the reactions e^+e^- → K^+K^-π^+π^-,K^+K^-π^0π^0, and K^+K^-K^+K^- measured using initial-state radiation events
We study the processes e^+e^- → K^+K^-π^+π^-γ, K^+K^-π^0π^0 γ, and K^+K^-K^+K^- γ, where the photon is radiated from the initial state. About 84 000, 8000, and 4200 fully reconstructed events, respectively, are selected from 454  fb^(-1) of BABAR data. The invariant mass of the hadronic final state defines the e+e- center-of-mass energy, so that the K^+K^-π^+π^- γ data can be compared with direct measurements of the e^+e^- → K^+K^-π^+π^- reaction. No direct measurements exist for the e^+e^- → K^+K^-π^0π^0 or e^+e^- → K^+K^-K^+K^- reactions, and we present an update of our previous result based on a data sample that is twice as large. Studying the structure of these events, we find contributions from a number of intermediate states and extract their cross sections. In particular, we perform a more detailed study of the e^+e^- → ϕ(1020)ππγ reaction and confirm the presence of the Y(2175) resonance in the ϕ(1020)f_0(980) and K^+K^-f_0(980) modes. In the charmonium region, we observe the J/ψ in all three final states and in several intermediate states, as well as the ψ(2S) in some modes, and measure the corresponding products of branching fraction and electron width
This Rock Is My Rock, This Rock Is Your Rock
In this activity, students use their observational skills to explore the makeup of various samples of rocks. They will recognize that the rocks are made up of one or more minerals. Educational levels: Intermediate elementary, Middle school
