    The effects of broadening the specifications for JP-4 and JP-8 fueled on the performance and cost of all USAF aircraft presently using JP-4 as well as those expected to be introduced into the force structure by 1983 are investigated. Test results indicated that there was no impact on engine performance, turbine durability, and coking, however there was a small maintenance cost increase as a result of a small combustor life decrease. Using JP-4 as standard fuel will avoid the use of high demand middle distillate fuels and give producers flexibility. Extensive use of JP-8 in the United States will increase middle distillate demand and cause a slight increase in engine hot-section maintenance. It is also concluded that the maximum allowable freeze point of JP-4 or JP-8 cannot be increased without degrading system performance and safety as critical conditions are approached

    Polarization as a Probe to the Production Mechanisms of Charmonium in πN\pi N Collisions

    Measurements of the polarization of \jp produced in pion-nucleus collisions are in disagreement with leading twist QCD prediction where \jp is observed to have negligible polarization whereas theory predicts substantial polarization. We argue that this discrepancy cannot be due to poorly known structure functions nor the relative production rates of \jp and χJ\chi_J. The disagreement between theory and experiment suggests important higher twist corrections, as has earlier been surmised from the anomalous non-factorized nuclear AA-dependence of the \jp cross section.Comment: 8 page

    Disjointness properties for Cartesian products of weakly mixing systems

    For n≄1n\geq 1 we consider the class JP(nn) of dynamical systems whose every ergodic joining with a Cartesian product of kk weakly mixing automorphisms (k≄nk\geq n) can be represented as the independent extension of a joining of the system with only nn coordinate factors. For n≄2n\geq 2 we show that, whenever the maximal spectral type of a weakly mixing automorphism TT is singular with respect to the convolution of any nn continuous measures, i.e. TT has the so-called convolution singularity property of order nn, then TT belongs to JP(n−1n-1). To provide examples of such automorphisms, we exploit spectral simplicity on symmetric Fock spaces. This also allows us to show that for any n≄2n\geq 2 the class JP(nn) is essentially larger than JP(n−1n-1). Moreover, we show that all members of JP(nn) are disjoint from ergodic automorphisms generated by infinitely divisible stationary processes.Comment: 24 pages, corrected versio

    A study of pentaquark Θ\Theta state in the chiral SU(3) quark model

    The structure of the pentaquark state uudd-sbar is studied in the chiral SU(3) quark model as well as in the extended chiral SU(3) quark model, in which the vector meson exchanges are included. Four configurations of JP=1/2- and four of JP=1/2+ are considered. The results show that the isospin T=0 state is always the lowest one for both JP=1/2- and JP=1/2+ cases in various models. But the theoretical value of the lowest one is still about 200-300 MeV higher than the experimental mass of Θ\Theta. It seems that a dynamical calculation should be done for the further study.Comment: 9 page

    In this paper the authors show an overview of Virtual Digital Mathematics Library in Japan (DML-JP), contents of which consist of metadata harvested from institutional repositories in Japan and digital repositories in the world. DML-JP is, in a sense, a subject specific repository which collaborate with various digital repositories. Beyond portal website, DML-JP provides subject-specific metadata through OAI-ORE. By the schema it is enabled that digital repositories can load the rich metadata which were added by mathematicians

    Initiation mechanisms and kinetics of pyrolysis and combustion of JP-10 hydrocarbon jet fuel

    In order to investigate the initiation mechanisms and kinetics associated with the pyrolysis of JP-10 (exo-tricyclo[5.2.1.0^2,6]decane), a single-component hydrocarbon jet fuel, we carried out molecular dynamics (MD) simulations employing the ReaxFF reactive force field. We found that the primary decomposition reactions involve either (1) dissociation of ethylene from JP-10, resulting in the formation of a C8 hydrocarbon intermediate, or (2) the production of two C5 hydrocarbons. ReaxFF MD leads to good agreement with experiment for the product distribution as a function of temperature. On the basis of the rate of consumption of JP-10, we calculate an activation energy of 58.4 kcal/mol for the thermal decomposition of this material, which is consistent with a strain-facilitated C−C bond cleavage mechanism in JP-10. This compares well with the experimental value of 62.4 kcal/mol. In addition, we carried out ReaxFF MD studies of the reactive events responsible for oxidation of JP-10. Here we found overall agreement between the thermodynamic energies obtained from ReaxFF and quantum-mechanical calculations, illustrating the usefulness of ReaxFF for studying oxidation of hydrocarbons. The agreement of these results with available experimental observations demonstrates that ReaxFF can provide useful insights into the complicated thermal decomposition and oxidation processes of important hydrocarbon fuels

    Superlight small bipolarons from realistic long-range Coulomb and Fr\"ohlich interactions

    We report analytical and numerical results on the two-particle states of the polaronic t-Jp model derived recently with realistic Coulomb and electron-phonon (Frohlich) interactions in doped polar insulators. Eigenstates and eigenvalues are calculated for two different geometries. Our results show that the ground state is a bipolaronic singlet, made up of two polarons. The bipolaron size increases with increasing ratio of the polaron hopping integral t to the exchange interaction Jp but remains small compared to the system size in the whole range 0<t/Jp<1. Furthermore, the model exhibits a phase transition to a superconducting state with a critical temperature well in excess of 100K. In the range t/Jp<1, there are distinct charge and spin gaps opening in the density of states, specific heat, and magnetic susceptibility well above Tc.Comment: Calculation section and discussion of gap have been updated.
