Toward Bound-State Approach to Strangeness in Holographic QCD
An approach to realize a hyperon as a bound-state of a two-flavor baryon and
a kaon is considered in the context of the Sakai-Sugimoto model of holographic
QCD, which approach has been known in the Skyrme model as the bound-state
approach to strangeness. As a simple case of study, pseudo-scalar kaon is
considered as fluctuation around a baryon. In this case, strongly-bound
hyperon-states are absent, different from the case of the Skyrme model.

Personality Profiles Identify Depressive Symptoms over Ten Years? A Population-Based Study
Little is known about the relationship between temperament and character inventory (TCI) profiles and depressive symptoms. Personality profiles are useful, because personality traits may have different effects on depressive symptoms when combined with different combinations of other traits. Participants were from the population-based Young Finns study with repeated measurements in 1997, 2001, and 2007 (n = 1402 to 1902). TCI was administered in 1997 and mild depressive symptoms (modified Beck's depression inventory, BDI) were reported in 1997, 2001, and 2007. BDI-II was also administered in 2007. We found that high harm avoidance and low self-directedness related strongly to depressive symptoms. In addition, sensitive (NHR) and fanatical people (ScT) were especially vulnerable to depressive symptoms. high novelty seeking and reward dependence increased depressive symptoms when harm avoidance was high. These associations were very similar in cross-sectional and longitudinal analysis. Personality profiles help in understanding the complex associations between depressive symptoms and personality
Holographic zero sound at finite temperature in the Sakai-Sugimoto model
In this paper, we study the fate of the holographic zero sound mode at finite
temperature and non-zero baryon density in the deconfined phase of the
Sakai-Sugimoto model of holographic QCD. We establish the existence of such a
mode for a wide range of temperatures and investigate the dispersion relation,
quasi-normal modes, and spectral functions of the collective excitations in
four different regimes, namely, the collisionless quantum, collisionless
thermal, and two distinct hydrodynamic regimes. For sufficiently high
temperatures, the zero sound completely disappears, and the low energy physics
is dominated by an emergent diffusive mode. We compare our findings to

Holographic DC conductivities from the open string metric
We study the DC conductivities of various holographic models using the open
string metric (OSM), which is an effective metric geometrizing density and
electromagnetic field effect. We propose a new way to compute the nonlinear
conductivity using OSM. As far as the final conductivity formula is concerned,
it is equivalent to the Karch-O'Bannon's real-action method. However, it yields
a geometrical insight and technical simplifications. Especially, a real-action
condition is interpreted as a regular geometry condition of OSM. As
applications of the OSM method, we study several holographic models on the
quantum Hall effect and strange metal. By comparing a Lifshitz background and
the Light-Cone AdS, we show how an extra parameter can change the temperature
scaling behavior of conductivity. Finally we discuss how OSM can be used to
study other transport coefficients, such as diffusion constant, and effective
temperature induced by the effective world volume horizon.Comment: 33 page
Three-flavor quark mass dependence of baryon spectra in holographic QCD
We introduce the strange quark mass to the Sakai-Sugimoto model of
holographic QCD. We compute mass shifts in the spectra of three-flavor baryons
at the leading order in perturbation in quark masses. Comparison with

Flavor-symmetry Breaking with Charged Probes
We discuss the recombination of brane/anti-brane pairs carrying brane
charge in . These configurations are dual to co-dimension one
defects in the super-Yang-Mills description. Due to their
charge, these defects are actually domain walls in the dual gauge theory,
interpolating between vacua of different gauge symmetry. A pair of unjoined
defects each carry localized dimensional fermions and possess a global
flavor symmetry while the recombined brane/anti-brane pairs
exhibit only a diagonal U(N). We study the thermodynamics of this

Decline in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentration: lipid-lowering drugs, diet, or physical activity? Evidence from the Whitehall II study
Objective To examine the association of lipid-lowering drugs, change in diet and physical activity with a decline in low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in middle age.Design A prospective cohort study.Setting The Whitehall II study.Participants 4469 British civil servants (72% men) aged 39-62 years at baseline.Main Outcome Measure Change in LDL-cholesterol concentrations between the baseline (1991-3) and follow-up (2003-4).Results Mean LDL-cholesterol decreased from 4.38 to 3.52 mmol/l over a mean follow-up of 11.3 years. In a mutually adjusted model, a decline in LDL-cholesterol was greater among those who were taking lipid-lowering treatment at baseline (-1.14 mmol/l, n=34), or started treatment during the follow-up (-1.77 mmol/l, n=481) compared with untreated individuals (n=3954; p < 0.001); among those who improved their diet-especially the ratio of white to red meat consumption and the ratio of polyunsaturated to saturated fatty acids intake-(-0.07 mmol/l, n=717) compared with those with no change in diet (n=3071; p=0.03) and among those who increased physical activity (-0.10 mmol/l, n=601) compared with those with no change in physical activity (n=3312; p=0.005). Based on these estimates, successful implementation of lipid-lowering drug treatment for high-risk participants (n=858) and favourable changes in diet (n=3457) and physical activity (n=2190) among those with non-optimal lifestyles would reduce LDL-cholesterol by 0.90 to 1.07 mmol/l in the total cohort.Conclusions Both lipid-lowering pharmacotherapy and favourable changes in lifestyle independently reduced LDL-cholesterol levels in a cohort of middle-aged men and women, supporting the use of multifaceted intervention strategies for prevention
