    REVISITING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EUDAIMONIC WELL-BEING AND INCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP: MEDIATING ROLE OF PERCEPTION OF INCLUSION

    The main goal of the current research is to investigate the mediator role of perception of inclusion between inclusive leadership and eudaimonic well-being. The partial least square method of structural equation modeling was incorporated to test the direct effect and the mediating effect based on data collected from 401 respondents of dissimilar sectors but mainly from the pharmaceutical sector. The results exposed an insignificant direct effect and significant indirect impact of inclusive leadership on eudaimonic well-being; however, the variable perception of inclusion was found to be a significant mediator. Nevertheless, the results contribute to the prior research studies that largely investigated the direct relationship between employee well-being and leadership, by showing that perception of inclusion mediates the relationship between eudaimonic well-being and inclusive leadership. The findings of the current research study certainly will help managers working in many industries set up and maintain behaviors that can improve employees' well-being, particularly eudaimonic well-being at work

    Factors Affecting Investigative Journalism in Pakistan: Exploring Journalists’ Perceptions

    Investigative journalism is an important part of journalism practices as it unveils the matters that are deliberately hidden from society. This study aims to examine how journalists perceive the factors affecting investigative journalism in Pakistan. More specifically, how intra, extra, and within-media elements influence media content and decisions of coverage. Through purposive sampling method and for data collection procedure, structured questionnaire tool was utilized. The results showed that certain forces inside and outside the media organizations impact media content in Pakistan. These influences include organizational sources, pressure groups, personal biases, job threats, economic constraints. Thus the study proposes that journalism in Pakistan can meet its true objectives only by dealing or at least minimizing the factors affecting investigative journalism in Pakistan.&nbsp

    An energy efficient interference-aware routing protocol for underwater WSNs

    Interference-aware routing protocol design for underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSNs) is one of the key strategies in reducing packet loss in the highly hostile underwater environment. The reduced interference causes efficient utilization of the limited battery power of the sensor nodes that, in consequence, prolongs the entire network lifetime. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient interference-aware routing (EEIAR) protocol for UWSNs. A sender node selects the best relay node in its neighborhood with the lowest depth and the least number of neighbors. Combination of the two routing metrics ensures that data packets are forwarded along the least interference paths to reach the final destination. The proposed work is unique in that it does not require the full dimensional localization information of sensor nodes and the network total depth is segmented to identify source, relay and neighbor nodes. Simulation results reveal better performance of the scheme than the counterparts DBR and EEDBR techniques in terms of energy efficiency, packet delivery ratio and end-to-end delay

    Idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis - A rare cause of chronic anemia

    Idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis (IPH) is a rare disease marked by alveolar bleeding and accumulation of hemosiderin in the lungs. Here we present three cases of IPH. The first case is of a 26-year-old male with anemia, hemoptysis and dyspnea. Bronchoscopy confirmed diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH). A diagnosis of IPH was made after ruling out other causes of DAH and observing good response to steroids. The patient\u27s condition improved with prednisolone and azathioprine. The second case is of 26-year-old female with severe anemia. Imaging suggested IPH and lung biopsy confirmed it. She died shortly afterwards. The third case is of a 7-year-old male with chronic anemia. CT was suggestive of IPH and lung biopsy confirmed the diagnosis. Later, patient developed posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES). This patient is stable on azathioprine and prednisolone. We aim to emphasize the importance of considering IPH as a differential in patients with DAH or chronic anemia

    A Machine Learning-Based Framework for Accurate and Early Diagnosis of Liver Diseases: A Comprehensive Study on Feature Selection, Data Imbalance, and Algorithmic Performance

    The liver is the largest organ of the human body with more than 500 vital functions. In recent decades, a large number of liver patients have been reported with diseases such as cirrhosis, fibrosis, or other liver disorders. There is a need for effective, early, and accurate identification of individuals suffering from such disease so that the person may recover before the disease spreads and becomes fatal. For this, applications of machine learning are playing a significant role. Despite the advancements, existing systems remain inconsistent in performance due to limited feature selection and data imbalance. In this article, we reviewed 58 articles extracted from 5 different electronic repositories published from January 2015 to 2023. After a systematic and protocol-based review, we answered 6 research questions about machine learning algorithms. The identification of effective feature selection techniques, data imbalance management techniques, accurate machine learning algorithms, a list of available data sets with their URLs and characteristics, and feature importance based on usage has been identified for diagnosing liver disease. The reason to select this research question is, in any machine learning framework, the role of dimensionality reduction, data imbalance management, machine learning algorithm with its accuracy, and data itself is very significant. Based on the conducted review, a framework, machine learning-based liver disease diagnosis (MaLLiDD), has been proposed and validated using three datasets. The proposed framework classified liver disorders with 99.56%, 76.56%, and 76.11% accuracy. In conclusion, this article addressed six research questions by identifying effective feature selection techniques, data imbalance management techniques, algorithms, datasets, and feature importance based on usage. It also demonstrated a high accuracy with the framework for early diagnosis, marking a significant advancement

    Compliance of smokeless tobacco supply chain actors and products with tobacco control laws in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan: protocol for a multicentre sequential mixed-methods study

    Introduction: South Asia is home to more than 300 million smokeless tobacco (ST) users. Bangladesh, India and Pakistan as signatories to the Framework Convention for Tobacco Control (FCTC) have developed policies aimed at curbing the use of tobacco. The objective of this study is to assess the compliance of ST point-of-sale (POS) vendors and the supply chain with the articles of the FCTC and specifically with national tobacco control laws. We also aim to assess disparities in compliance with tobacco control laws between ST and smoked tobacco products. Methods and analysis: The study will be carried out at two sites each in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. We will conduct a sequential mixed-methods study with five components: (1) mapping of ST POS, (2) analyses of ST samples packaging, (3) observation, (4) survey interviews of POS and (5) in-depth interviews with wholesale dealers/suppliers/manufacturers of ST. We aim to conduct at least 300 POS survey interviews and observations, and 6-10 in-depth interviews in each of the three countries. Data collection will be done by trained data collectors. The main statistical analysis will report the frequencies and proportions of shops that comply with the FCTC and local tobacco control policies, and provide a 95% CI of these estimates. The qualitative in-depth interview data will be analysed using the framework approach. The findings will be connected, each component informing the focus and/or design of the next component. Ethics and dissemination: Ethical approvals for the study have been received from the Health Sciences Research Governance Committee at the University of York, UK. In-country approvals were taken from the National Bioethics Committee in Pakistan, the Bangladesh Medical Research Council and the Indian Medical Research Council. Our results will be disseminated via scientific conferences, peer-reviewed research publications and press releases
