Documentation of the detailed radiation property data for the radiation-ablation code RASLE

    Get PDF
This report is a documentation of the necessary radiation property input data for the radiating shock layer simulation code RASLE. The tabulated data are required to simulate systems which are composed of oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, hydrogen, and silicon. These data are needed to compute the flowfield effects of many practical ablative, hypersonic vehicle heat shield materials. A brief outline description is provided for the RASLE code. A more detailed discussion is provided for the RASLE code non-grey gas spectral radiation model. This model is related to the required radiation property data which are tabulated at the end of the report. Other correlations needed for the RASLE simulations are not discussed, since these are automatically included in the program and no input data are required

The Influence of the Black Death Upon the Life and Works of John Wycliffe

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper then is to ascertain to what extent John Wycliffe was influenced by one of the greatest calamities which has ever come upon the world. To the average person the Black Death recalls vaguely a horrible phase in medieval Europe which merely came, but also merely went. This great blight was not a passing thing. It left lasting, livid scars on succeeding generations. It was a type of revolution from which no class escaped; no institution remained unaffected. In fact, many of the medieval institutions were all but destroyed by the Black Death. It also accentuated many of the evils in the world and in the Church. It is, therefore, only natural that it would effect the work of the reformer who lived during this epidemic and whose work followed only a few years later

CLP LYNCS: Bringing a Library to the Pittsburgh Public Market

    Get PDF
Libraries are evolving and always thinking of new and creative ways to reach customers. The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh devised a new initiative called the Library in Your Neighborhood, Community and School (LYNCS), and its first product was a new library service point located in the indoor Pittsburgh Public Market (PPM). The library service point was planned and launched in approximately four months after a unique collaboration with the nearby MLIS students at the University of Pittsburgh. The CLP-LYNCS: PPM was the first of its kind in Southwestern Pennsylvania. With its unique hours, it serves weekend patrons in a bustling Pittsburgh neighborhood that attracts users from all over the county

CFD Analysis of Hypersonic Flowfields With Surface Thermochemistry and Ablation

    Get PDF
In the past forty years much progress has been made in computational methods applied to the solution of problems in spacecraft hypervelocity flow and heat transfer. Although the basic thermochemical and physical modeling techniques have changed little in this time, several orders of magnitude increase in the speed of numerically solving the Navier-Stokes and associated energy equations have been achieved. The extent to which this computational power can be applied to the design of spacecraft heat shields is dependent on the proper coupling of the external flow equations to the boundary conditions and governing equations representing the thermal protection system in-depth conduction, pyrolysis and surface ablation phenomena. A discussion of the techniques used to do this in past problems as well as the current state-of-art is provided. Specific examples, including past missions such as Galileo, together with the more recent case studies of ESA/Rosetta Sample Comet Return, Mars Pathfinder and X-33 will be discussed. Modeling assumptions, design approach and computational methods and results are presented

    Natural Labor Pain Management

    Get PDF
There is a current trend toward natural pain management in labor, and pregnant women will seek the guidance of childbirth educators to make qualified decisions. The childbirth educator bases practice on the most current evidence; however, natural pain management in labor is not well studied. This paper offers information and current evidence as well as a story that illustrates the use of many natural or complementary and alternative medical therapies used in pain management during labor

A Guide to Common Skin Disorders while Pregnant

    Get PDF
During pregnancy, mothers strive to maintain good health and to promote the health of their babies. Having a chronic or acute skin condition during pregnancy could cause fear that treating these conditions could cause harm to their unborn child (American Academy of Dermatology [AAD], 2016). Women will need and seek guidance before and during their pregnancies as well as during lactation, when skin disorders affect them. The childbirth educator would benefit from a basic knowledge base to answer questions that may arise regarding various skin problems during the childbirth experience. This article will define and discuss treatment for some of the more common disorders – eczema, psoriasis, acne, and melanoma, and examine their effects on pregnancy, childbirth, and lactation

    Baby\u27s Skin

    Get PDF
A neonate\u27s skin serves many important roles, is fragile, and requires special care. The childbirth educator may be called on to give sound, evidence based advice to caregivers who have concerns about their baby\u27s skin. This article reviews the basics in newborn skin care with qualified recommendations on skin imperfections. Neonatal skin alterations are reviewed and include erythema toxicum neonatorum, milia, sebaceous glands, baby acne, and cradle cap. Babies are also affected by too much moisture which can result in drool rashes, heat rashes, and diaper rashes. These rashes are common and treatable with proficient guidance. Other skin concerns are presented such as skin discolorations. Childbirth educators play an important role in providing this much needed education and reassurances
