Cognitive Learning Strategies of Non-english Department Students on Noun Structure

Learning English for non-English department students is not as easy as it seems. Besides, as much as it is necessary to know how successful learners learn, not less important is to know how less successful learners learn. Using think aloud method, this study aims at finding out the cognitive strategies used by the engineering department students in answering incorrectly problems on TOEFL noun structure-the grammar point in which students made the most errors. Findings uncover the students' strategies and reasoning upon which pedagogical implications can be put forth so that more effective and fruitful instruction can be tailored

Tingkat Pencahayaan Perpustakaan di Lingkungan Universitas Indonesia

Pencahayaan di perpustakaan merupakan aspek penting dalam menunjang aktivitas mahasiswa dan pegawai. Kondisi pencahayaan yang tidak memenuhi standar dapat mengganggu aktivitas dan menyebabkan keluhan kesehatan khususnya kelelahan mata. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui kesesuaian tingkat pencahayaan di ruang perpustakaan yang ada di lingkungan UI. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain evaluasi dengan membandingkan hasil pengukuran dengan standar serta melakukan analisis terhadap kondisi lingkungan, respons subjektif pengguna, dan keluhan kelelahan mata. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tingkat kesesuaian pencahayaan di perpustakaan berkisar antara 0% sampai 100%. Sebagian besar pencahayaan mempunyai tingkat kesesuaian antara 30% sampai 60%. Kondisi ini disebabkan oleh distribusi pencahayaan yang kurang baik karena banyak lampu yang mati, intensitas yang rendah, tata letak peralatan yang kurang baik, serta warna ruangan yang agak gelap. Di samping itu, terdapat perpustakaan yang mempunyai pencahayaan yang sangat tinggi sehingga menyebabkan silau, mengganggu aktivitas, dan menyebabkan keluhan kelelahan mata. Kelelahan mata yang umum dirasakan oleh mahasiswa dan pegawai adalah mata selalu terasa mengantuk dan tegang pada daerah leher dan bahu. Umumnya keluhan yang dirasakan selama melakukan aktivitas tersebut mengindikasikan tingkat pencahayaan di perpustakaan harus segera dibenahi agar sesuai dengan standar dan memperkecil risiko kelelahan mata.Lighting the library is an important aspect in supporting both students and employees activity. Lighting conditions that do not meet the standard can disrupt activity and cause eye fatigue. This study aimed to determine the suitability level of lighting in library of UI. This study performed evaluation design by comparing results with standard and an analysis of environmental conditions, subjective response, and eye fatigue. Results showed the level of suitability of lighting in the library ranged from 0% to 100%. Most of the illumination has a level of suitability from 30% to 60%. This condition is caused by poor lighting distribution because some lamps are not lit, low intensity, poor layout of equipment, and slightly darker color of the room. Besides, there are libraries that have a very high lighting causing glare, disturbing activity, and cause eye fatigue. Common eye fatigue felt by students and employees is sleepy eyes and pain in the neck and shoulders. Complaints generally felt during activity. This indicates that the level of lighting in the library must be immediately corrected to meet standard and minimize the risk of eye fatigue

Faktor-faktor yang Mempengaruhi Luas Pengungkapan Sukarela pada Perusahaan Industri Dasar dan Kimia di Bei

Company is an entity cannot separated from the societal environment (stakeholders), thus the company should capable to give the satisfactory services for the sake of stakeholders by means of satisfying the information needs related to the business activities of the company. The efforts of company in satisfying the information needs of stakeholders are not enough just by means of obligatory disclosures only, but, rather given the voluntary disclosures in annual reports. This research had the purpose to test the influential factors to the voluntary disclosures. The independent variables taken were company size, capital structure, public ownership, company age, and profitability. The research objects were the basic and chemical industrial companies listed in the Indonesian Stock Exchange in 2008-2010. Samples used in the research were as many as 18 basic and chemical industrial companies selected by the purposive sampling technique. Data sources were obtained from the annual reports given respectively in the period of 2008-2010. Data analysis technique used the multiple-linear-regression.The result of the research indicated that the company size had effect on the voluntary disclosures. Capital structure, public ownership, company age, profitability had no effects on the voluntary disclosures

Exposure of Particulate Matter (PM2.5) among Printing Operator Of A Printing Industry in Jakarta 2016 - A case study

Particulate matter (PM2.5) is an air pollutant known as the fine particle has a diameter of less than 2.5 μm which is also called the respirable particulates that can get into the alveolar region of the lungs (Fierro, 2000). This study aimed to determine the exposure concentration of PM2.5 among printing operators who work in the production area of the printing industry. Measuring the exposure concentration of PM2.5 was done at 10 points in the 7 SEG that represent 15 locations and 51 operators in conducting their activities. The measurement points were consist of Solna 1 (2 points), Solna 4 (3 points), Magnum 1 (2 points) and HT 2 (3 points). The concentration of PM2.5 exposure measured by using the ”Haz Dust EPAM 5000” with a flow rate of 2.5 liters/minute for 15 minutes. The results of the exposure concentration of PM2.5 exceed the GovernmentRegulation 41/1999 about air pollution control which exposed to 16 people were in Solna machine 1 (0.463 mg/m3), Solna machine 4 (0.211 mg/m3), and the bundling paper area of Magnum machine (0.209 mg/m3). Some control methods can be considered to reduce the concentration such as making an installation dust extractor machine with dust capture hoods, developing work instructions to clean the machine, and using anappropriate masker during work. Applying Programmable Logic Control (PLC) for Control Motors, Blower and Heater in the Rubber Drying Processing

Rubber is the largest commodity in Indonesia. Rubber is traditionally processed and dried using bamboo hangers, manual arrangement of bamboo drying rubber, heat from firewood for drying chambers and large areas. This drying process has disadvantages, namely inconsistent drying time, non-uniform room temperature, unequal product quality, and unfriendly drying process. The solution is to overcome the automatic rubber dryer machine that is made using PLC to get the motor operating system for automatic rubber handling in the drying chamber, fixed drying temperature, small drying area, and fast-drying time. The experimental method is used for the automatic rubber drying process with PLC to control the movement of rubber in/out of the chamber dryer, heater, and blower for distribution temperature and other components. From the test results, it is found that the control system can work well at the voltage of each component of 220V, such as a sensor with a current of 0.21A and a stop time of 0.01s-0.3 seconds. The motor, heater, and blower are active (ON) at 220V with a current of 8.27A. The heater requires a current of 1.99A for active (ON) and an active blower (ON) with a current of 0.75A

Perancangan Aplikasi Konseling Mahasiswa Menggunakan Metode Case Based Reasoning

Aplikasi konseling mahasiswa digunakan sebagai tools dalam proses konseling mahasiswa bermasalah. Metode penalaran dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode Case Based Reasoning (CBR). Penelitian dimulai dari tahap pengambilan data kasus konseling mahasiswa dari beberapa narasumber dan pakar konseling. Selanjutnya dibuatkan attribut yang sesuai dengan proses konseling mahasiswa. Tahapan pengambilan keputusan pada penelitian ini dilakukan sesuai dengan siklus CBR yaitu retrieve, reuse, revise, retain. Pada proses retrieve kasus yang akan diuji dibandingkan dengan kasus yang terdapat dalam basis kasus melalui perhitungan similaritas, dan hasil dari perhitungan tersebut difilter menggunakan nilai treshold (ambang batas). Selanjutnya dilakukan tahapan perancangan aplikasi mulai dari konteks diagram, DFD, ERD, Database Realtional dan Desain Interface. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah perancangan yang dibuat dapat diterapkan dalam tahap implementasi konseling mahasiswa bermasalah oleh Dosen Pembimbing Akademik
