    Resonant metamaterial absorbers for infrared spectral filtering: quasimodal analysis, design, fabrication and characterization

    We present a modal analysis of metal-insulator-metal (MIM) based metamaterials in the far infrared region. These structures can be used as resonant reflection bandcut spectral filters that are independent of the polarization and direction of incidence because of the excitation of quasimodes (modes associated with a complex frequency) leading to quasi-total absorption. We fabricated large area samples made of chromium nanorod gratings on top of Si/Cr layers deposited on silicon substrate and measurements by Fourier Transform spectrophotometry show good agreement with finite element simulations. A quasimodal expansion method is developed to obtain a reduced order model that fits very well full wave simulations and that highlights excitation conditions of the modes.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure

    International audienceThe aim of this paper is to study the saturation effect on the electromagnetic and acoustic behavior of Switched Reluctance Machines (SRMs). Two 4-phase SRMs (8/6 and 16/12) are analyzed through numerical models under the hypothesis of linear and nonlinear magnetic material characteristics. The harmonic content of the radial Maxwell pressure and the radiated acoustic power are compared in both qualitative and quantitative terms. The results show that, in opposite case to induction and synchronous machines, the saturation phenomenon does not increase the harmonic content of the electromagnetic fields of SRMs and even leads to reduce their radiated acoustic power

    Structural determination and kinetic analysis of the Transketolase from Vibrio vulnificus reveal unexpected cooperative behavior

    International audienceVibrio vulnificus (vv) is a multidrug-resistant human bacterial pathogen whose prevalence is expected to increase over the years. Transketolases (TK), transferases catalyzing two reactions of the non-oxidative branch of the pentose-phosphate pathway and therefore linked to several crucial metabolic pathways, are potential targets for new drugs against this pathogen. Here, the vvTK is crystallized and its structure is solved at 2.1 Å. A crown of 6 histidyl residues is observed in the active site and expected to participate in the thiamine pyrophosphate (cofactor) activation. Docking of fructose-6-phosphate and ferricyanide used in the activity assay, suggests that both substrates can bind vvTK simultaneously. This is confirmed by steady-state kinetics showing a sequential mechanism, on the contrary to the natural transferase reaction which follows a substituted mechanism. Inhibition by the I38-49 inhibitor (2-(4-ethoxyphenyl)-1-(pyrimidin-2-yl)-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine) reveals for the first time a cooperative behavior of a TK and docking experiments suggest a previously undescribed binding site at the interface between the pyrophosphate and pyridinium domains

    International audienceObjective: Update the French Society for Rheumatology (SFR) recommendations on the everyday management of patients with spondyloarthritis, including psoriatic arthritis.Methods: Following standardized procedures, a systematic literature review was done by four supervised rheumatology residents based on questions defined by a task force of 16 attending rheumatologists. The findings were reviewed during three working meetings that culminated in each recommendation receiving a grade and the level of agreement among experts being determined.Results: Five general principles and 15 recommendations were developed. They take into account pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures along with treatment methods based on the dominant phenotype present (axial, articular, enthesitis/dactylitis) and the extra-articular manifestations (psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, uveitis). NSAIDs are the first-line pharmacological treatment in the various presentations. Conventional synthetic disease modifying antirheumatic drugs (csDMARDs) are not indicated in the axial and isolated entheseal forms. If the response to conventional treatment is not adequate, targeted therapies (biologics, synthetics) should be considered; the indications depend on the clinical phenotype and presence of extra-articular manifestations.Conclusion: This update incorporates recent data (published since the prior update in 2018) and the predominant clinical phenotype concept. It aims to help physicians with the everyday management of patients affected by spondyloarthritis, including psoriatic arthritis
