Use of the content analysis to help in the characterization of semiurban road passenger transport in Brazil: a systemic and interdisciplinary viewpoint

In Brazil, the National Land Transportation Agency (ANTT in Portuguese) Resolution 16/02 defines semiurban road passenger transport as journeys with urban transport characteristics that are as long as 75km (or less) and that cross the State, Federal District or Territory border. Even though this type of service is regulated, Decree 2.521/98 does not present a specific approach for this service, which may jeopardize its regulatory policy and service planning. Besides, the lack of a specific approach allows for user expectations to remain unfulfilled. Thus, regarding land passenger transport, the main problem we spotted was the lack of knowledge on semiurban road passenger transport. To consider the perceptions of users, planners and operators involved in semiurban transport is essential to understand how it works and, subsequently, to characterize it. From this point of view, Content Analysis comes to light as a specific technique that aims to describe content objectively, systematically, qualitatively and quantitatively in order to build a System of Synthetic Categories for each actor in semiurban transport. This study aims to demonstrate how Content Analysis techniques can contribute to characterize semiurban road passenger transport from the system of categories of user perception in the Brazilian Federal District and surrounding areas.Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies.

_________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe models of planning, management and control of transport are developed and implemented specifically for each type of transport established according to the classification. However, the current classification does not define transport classes that are able to reflect displacement flow patterns and their diversity. Thus, different types of transport receive similar treatment, and similar types are subject to various treatments. In this context, this research aims to understand the genesis of transport and develop a typology of transport of passengers able to reflect the flow patterns of displacement, the heterogeneity and the transport features. For so, it was adopted as theoretical fundament the Action Theory and theoretical-methodology of Ideal Types, both from Max Weber. So, it was investigated the production processes and occupation of space which cause the disengagement of the physical and functional spaces and their uneven distribution within the territory determining displacements and therefore the flow pattern

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the quality of life, through the “Medical Outcomes Study 36 - Item Short - Form Health Survey” (SF-36) questionnaire, of a group of elderly involved in physical activities scheduled and the impact of physical activity time. Methods: We assessed 143 elderly engaged in physical activity programmed by Universidade Federal de Uberlândia. As a data collection tool, we used the SF-36 and a sociodemographic questionnaire, applied at the time of the interview. Statistical analysis was performed using Kruskal-Wallis, for analysis between domains, and Mann-Whitney test, to verify the relationship between health status and physical activity level. Results: The average age was 70.5 years. The mean score for the SF-36 of the elderly people who participated in the research was 73.3. The best result was in the Social Aspects domain (81.7), followed by Mental Health (78.9). Approximately 76% had at least 150 minutes of physical activity per week, being classified as a more active population. Most (70.6%) of the elderly had a good perception of their general health. There was statistical difference in the General Health domain among groups that performed physical activity for a period of less than one year and those who have been engaging in regular physical activity for over 10 years. Conclusions: The Social Function and Mental Health domains had the highest scores, with significant documentation of a better general health in the group that have practiced consecutive physical activity for over ten years
