Scientific literacy in school context: The Zientzia Live! Project

En este estudio se presenta el programa “Zientzia Live!” de alfabetización científica, que se ha llevado a cabo en centros escolares de la ESO de la Comunidad Autónoma del País Vasco, y que trata de atender a la necesidad mostrada por la bibliografía de introducir formatos de enseñanza no formal en el contexto escolar. Se han abordado cuestiones como la orientación seguida en la metodología didáctica de los talleres, la actitud de los participantes sobre los mismos, o la alfabetización científica lograda a través de las experiencias realizadas. La aportación más original de este trabajo es su intento de analizar la alfabetización científica que permita a los asistentes dar una explicación científica a los experimentos observados. Los resultados obtenidos son esperanzadores e indican que la mayoría de los asistentes ha aprendido las ideas claves.In this study is presented the "Zientzia Live!" Scientific literacy program, that was conducted at ESO level in schools of the Basque Country. It tries to meet the need shown by the literature to introduce forms of nonformal education in the school context. It has been addressed issues such as the teaching methodology of the workshops, the participants' attitude about them, or scientific literacy achieved through the experiences. The most original contribution of this work is its attempt to analyze the scientific literacy that allows attendees to give a scientific explanation for the observed experiments. The results are encouraging and indicate that the majority of participants have learned the key ideas

Análisis crítico de la enseñanza de visualización en primer ciclo de universidad y propuesta alternativa de orientación constructivista

Este trabajo se ha ocupado de la problemática educativa que se presenta en el proceso de enseñanza/aprendizaje de la visualización de piezas en la asignatura de Expresión Gráfica en el primer curso de Universidad en estudios de Ingeniería Técnica. Se ha propuesto un modelo de resolución de problemas de visualización que integra tanto los contenidos conceptuales como los procedimentales implicados en el mismo. Se ha realizado un análisis crítico de la enseñanza habitual de la visualización de piezas, mostrando tanto deficiencias didácticas, como deficiencias y dificultades presentes en el aprendizaje de los alumnos. A continuación, se ha diseñado una propuesta alternativa de enseñanza de la visualización de orientación constructivista, desarrollando además un programa de actividades para su aprendizaje. Por último, se ha experimentado dicha propuesta, presentado las mejoras obtenidas en el aprendizaje logrado y los resultados obtenidos en la valoración de la propuesta alternativa

Stability and parking cross distance adapter mechanism for electric vehicle

Due to the actual vehicle dimensions, low occupancy rates and the increase of world population, a trend to develop new vehicle concepts with smaller dimensions is seen. The objective of this trend is to reduce traffic congestion and park ability related issues in overpopulated areas. Not only footprint reduction is necessary, but also maintaining actual vehicle safety and comfort metrics is a must. Therefore, first of all, a mechanism to reduce wheel track to the third of the space required for a conventional car for low speed and parking situations is designed and developed. Once the track variation mechanism is completely defined, several suspensions and steering mechanism are analysed, concluding with a design of an unconventional front independent suspension and steering systems which are detailed in the present manuscript. By using MBS (Multi-body System) model, loads transmitted from tyre through mechanism joints to the vehicle chassis are computed. Special attention has been paid to the maximum peak loads that mechanism will suffer from road irregularities in extreme conditions. These load values are also used to evaluate the components that compose the track variation mechanism. Continuing with the actuation of the system, an electronic control strategy is created and virtually tested, with what vehicle track position and vehicle speed and acceleration conditions are instantaneously controlled and related with the wheel track variation system. Finally, the complete track width variation mechanism is manufactured, assembled and tested in a test rig

Una propuesta de utilización de los resultados de la investigación didáctica en la enseñanza de la Física

En las últimas décadas ha habido un número creciente de físicos que han asumido el reto de aplicar a los problemas relativos al aprendizaje y a la enseñanza de la física la misma seriedad investigadora que se aplica a la investigación tradicional en esta área. Este empeño se conoce grosso modo como «Investigación en Enseñanza de la Física» (IEF). Este artículo discute una propuesta de utilización de las investigaciones en IEF en relación con la práctica de aula. Se presentan ejemplos que muestran el positivo impacto de la investigación en enseñanza de la física sobre el diseño de unidades didácticas y sobre la comprensión de estudiantes de bachillerato y universidad en algunos conceptos. Finalmente, mostraremos algunos retos prácticos y propondremos algunos pasos que podrían darse para asegurar el crecimiento y productividad de la IEF.In the last decades, a growing number of physicists have taken up the challenge of implementing in the learning and teaching of physics the same research discipline applied to traditional research in the field. Such commitment is largely known as «Physics Education Research» (PER). In this paper we will discuss a proposal of utilization of results of the research for classroom practice at High School and university level. This paper presents evidence from different studies to demonstrate the potential positive impact of the research on teaching and learning physics on students' understanding of physics. Finally, we will show some practical challenges and propose some steps that could be taken to ensure PER growth and productivity

Methodology for the elaboration of the design table of GFRP structures subjected to fire

The main objective of this study is to establish a fire protection design method for pultruded Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) structures exposed to fire. The method is based on the development of tables similar to those already available for steel structures. The structural designer may use these tables to determine the minimum required thickness (of any type of insulation), so that the structure maintains its mechanical properties above the over-dimensioning coefficient. The method used to draw up these tables follows four steps; i) First, the limit temperatures are determined or the temperature ranges within which the application of pultruded GFRP is permitted; ii) Second, the behavior of certain physical properties (density, specific heat, thermal conductivity, emissivity…) are defined as a function of the temperature; iii) Third, the method to determine the fire resistance temperature of the pultruded profile sections is defined; iv) Finally, the mechanical properties and ultimate resistance values of these profiles at different temperatures are also estimated. The behavior of the mechanical properties is analyzed as a function of the massivity of each section and the ratio between the thermal conductivity of the insulation and its thickness. In addition, a practical example is given of the application of the tables to a pultruded GFRP structur
