Interview with Patricia Hill Collins

No dia 29 de outubro de 2019, um grupo de intelectuais se reuniu no Departamento de Sociologia da usp, sob iniciativa do editor da Tempo Social, para entrevistar Patricia Hill Collins, intelectual norte-americana internacionalmente reconhecida, que abriu novas perspectivas para o pensamento feminista negro como teoria social crítica. O ponto de partida foi o novo livro de Collins, intitulado Intersectionality as Critical Social Theory (Interseccionalidade como Teoria Social Crítica), em que ela explora os paralelos entre os desafios enfrentados pelos ativistas intelectuais que criaram o conceito de interseccionalidade e os que estão colocados pelo presente. Durante a conversa, outros temas surgiram, explorando a agenda de pesquisa da Autora e seus livros anteriores, assim como os novos desafios para os estudos sobre relações raciais e a militância antirracista.El 29 de octubre de 2019, un grupo de intelectuales se reunió en el Departamento de Sociología de la USP, por iniciativa de Tempo Social, para entrevistar a Patricia Hill Collins, intelectual estadounidense de renombre internacional, quien abrió nuevas perspectivas para la El pensamiento feminista negro como teoría social crítica. La entrevista comenzó con el nuevo libro que había publicado el autor, titulado Interseccionalidad como teoría social crítica. En él Patricia Collins busca explorar los paralelismos entre los desafíos que enfrentaron aquellos activistas-intelectuales que contribuyeron al surgimiento de la noción de interseccionalidad, y esos nuevos desafíos que enfrentamos hoy. A lo largo de la conversación, se exploraron otros temas, que surgen tanto de la agenda de la autora como de sus libros anteriores, así como de los desafíos que enfrentan los estudiosos de las desigualdades raciales y los activistas antirracistas.  Le 29 octobre 2019, un groupe d'intellectuels s'est réuni au département de sociologie de l'USP, à l'initiative de l'éditeur Tempo Social, pour un entretien avec Patricia Hill Collins, une intellectuelle américaine de renommée internationale, qui a ouvert de nouvelles perspectives à la pensée féministe noire, en tant que théorie sociale critique. Le point de départ était le nouveau livre de Collins, intitulé Intersectionality as Critical Social Theory, où elle explore les parallèles entre les défis auxquels sont confrontés ces militants-intellectuels qui ont developpé la notion d'intersectionnalité, et les nouveaux défis auxquels sont confrontés aujourd'hui. Au cours de la conversation, d'autres thèmes ont émergé, explorant le programme de recherche de l'auteur et ses livres précédents, ainsi que les défis actuels pour les études sur les relations raciales et pour le militantisme antiraciste.  On October 29, 2019, a group of intellectuals met at the Sociology Department of usp, at the initiative of the Tempo Social editor, for an interview with Patricia Hill Collins, an internationally renowned American intellectual, who opened new perspectives for Black feminist thought, as a critical social theory. The departure point was Collins new book, entitled Intersectionality as Critical Social Theory, where she explores the parallels between the challenges faced by those activists-intellectuals who coined the notion of intersectionality, and the new challenges faced today. During the conversation, other themes emerged, exploring the author’s research agenda and her previous books, as well as the current challenges for the studies on racial relations and for the anti-racist militance

Laços à brasileira: desigualdades e vínculos sociais

Throughout their lives, individuals engage in a permanent process of (re)building ties (family, community, professionals, citizenship) that ensure protection from the risks and recognition of their own existence and identity. Although in each society, the various types of ties are present, there is always a preeminent one, whose values and principles influence the others, regulating them and laying the foundations for a particular moral economy, for an “attachment regime”. In this article we will approach the subject from the Brazilian case. We will analyze its peculiar regime by means of comparisons. We will initially compare Brazilian data with those gathered in a previous study on a sample of sixteen European countries. Then, we will explore its internal heterogeneities, comparing changes on time and between Brazilian regions.Ao longo da vida os indivíduos se envolvem num processo permanente de (re)construir laços (familiares, comunitários, profissionais, de cidadania) que lhes assegurem a proteção frente a riscos e o reconhecimento de sua própria existência e identidade. Embora, em cada sociedade, as várias modalidades de laço se façam presentes, há sempre um tipo preeminente, cujos valores e princípios influem sobre os demais, regulando-os e assentando as bases para uma economia moral particular, para um “regime de vinculação”. Neste artigo trataremos o tema a partir do caso brasileiro. Usaremos a comparação para identificar suas singularidades. Inicialmente compararemos os dados para o Brasil com aqueles produzidos em estudo anterior sobre uma amostra de dezesseis países europeus. Em seguida, analisaremos suas heterogeneidades internas, observando mudanças no tempo e entre regiões do país

Trajetórias, atributos e relações. Representações sobre redes e obtenção de trabalho

O texto analisa os mecanismos pelos quais os indivíduos têm acesso a oportunidades de emprego e como, para tal, acionam os seus contatos pessoais. Argüi-se a importância de entender o modo como os mesmos interpretam os seus percursos sócio-ocupacionais e estabelecem alvos com respeito ao trabalho para bem interpretar as maneiras pelas quais acionam suas redes e o lugar que lhes conferem na busca por emprego. O argumento é ilustrado com a análise de oito casos, retirados de uma pesquisa mais ampla com demandantes de trabalho em agências de emprego da região metropolitana de São Paulo; este estudo combinou um survey por amostra representativa com 1507 casos, em 2004, e uma pesquisa qualitativa, entre 2009 e 2010, que coletou 29 entrevistas biográficas e mapeou as redes de uma sub-amostra de casos-tipo, selecionados dentre os que haviam respondido o questionário em 2004.The article aims at contributing to recent analysis on how people get access to job opportunities and the role of different mechanisms mobilized on it, with special interest in personal contacts. We argue that job search decisions are grounded in individual interpretations and meanings; decisions on if and how personal networks are mobilized in the job search depend upon the ways job seeker interpret his own social and occupational trajectory and establish professional targets. Therefore research designs have to take into account the characteristics related to individual attributes, networks and trajectories, exploring how those three dimensions interact. In order to illustrate this argument, eight cases were selected from a broader research conducted with job seekers on employment agencies in the metropolitan area of São Paulo, Brazil. The study combined two methodological approaches: in a first phase, conducted in 2004, a sample survey explored 1507 individual profiles and trajectories; in a second phase, between 2009 and 2010, a qualitative research was carried out with a subsample of 26 respondents selected among the first phase interviewees. Desemprego - mercados, instituições e percepções: Brasil e Japão numa perspectiva comparada

The characteristics (form, duration and selectivity) of unemployment and its perception by social actors, are made up of different national configurations, due not only to historical but also to social and cultural dimensions. This paper deals with unemployment situation in two distinct social contexts, the metropolitan regions of São Paulo and Tokyo. Empirical data come from two sample surveys, conducted in both metropolis, and based upon a comparative research design.As características (formas, duração e seletividade) do desemprego e sua percepção pelos atores são dotadas de diferentes configurações nacionais, em função tanto de dimensões históricas como socioculturais. Neste texto apresentamos resultados relativos à situação de desemprego em dois contextos sociais distintos, representados pelas regiões metropolitanas de São Paulo e de Tóquio. Tais resultados foram obtidos a partir de dois surveys amostrais, realizados em 2001 nas duas metrópoles, a partir de um desenho de pesquisa de tipo comparativo
