    En el presente trabajo de tesis en referente a la evaluación superficial de pavimento flexible por el método de índice de condición del pavimento (PCI) Pavement Condition Index. en las calles: Los Pétalos, Díaz las Heras en la urbanización Los Rosales de San Andrés y calle R. P. Jaime de Gondra en la urbanización Vista hermosa. Este tipo de metodología de evaluación superficial del pavimento flexible, se realiza mediante una inspección ocular identificando los diferentes tipos de fallas, cantidad, clases de severidad por unidades de muestras. Por el cual se ha hecho uso de manual de Ingeniero Luis Ricardo Vásquez Varela, el método Pavement Condition Index (PCI) publicada por la Norma ASTM D6433-03., es la evaluación superficial completa y calificación objetiva de pavimentos flexibles y rígidos. El valor del PCI nos permito encontrar la calificación del estado de deterioro o conservación del pavimento. Se llegó a la conclusión que luego de haber hecho uso de la metodología PCI para la evaluación del pavimento flexible que comprende las calles “Los Pétalos - Díaz Las Heras”, se obtuvo un valor promedio de PCI de 32.26 considerándose como un pavimento en mal estado. En la calle “R.P. Jaime de Gondra” se obtuvo un valor promedio de PCI de 47.73, determinándose como regular estado en aquel tramo evaluado.In the present thesis work regarding the superficial evaluation of flexible pavement by Pavement Condition Index (PCI) method. in the streets: Los Pétalos, Díaz las Heras in the urbanization Los Rosales de San Andrés and R. P. Jaime de Gondra street in the Vista Hermosa urbanization. This type of flexible pavement surface evaluation methodology is carried out by means of an ocular inspection identifying the different types of faults, quantity, severity classes per unit of samples. For which use has been made of the manual of Engineer Luis Ricardo Vásquez Varela, the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) method published by ASTM D6433-03., Is the complete superficial evaluation and objective qualification of flexible and rigid pavements. The value of the PCI allows us to find the qualification of the state of deterioration or conservation of the pavement. It was concluded that after having made use of the PCI methodology for the evaluation of the flexible pavement that comprises the streets "Los Petalos - Díaz Las Heras", an average PCI value of 32.26 was obtained, considering it as a bad pavement . On the street "R.P. Jaime de Gondra "an average PCI value of 47.73 was obtained, being determined as a regular state in that section evaluated.Tesi

    Longitudinal associations between cardiovascular biomarkers and metabolic syndrome during puberty: the PUBMEP study

    Puberty has been described as a life stage of considerable metabolic risk specially for those with obesity. The low-grade systemic inflammatory status associated with obesity could be one of the connections with metabolic syndrome (MetS). Thus, we aimed to assess the relationship between inflammatory and cardiovascular biomarkers and the development of MetS during puberty. Seventy-five children from the PUBMEP study (33 females), aged 4–18 years, were included. Cardiovascular and inflammatory biomarkers were measured in the prepubertal and pubertal stage, including high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (CRP), leptin, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα), interleukin 8 (IL8), monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP-1), total plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (tPAI), resistin, adiponectin, myeloperoxidase (MPO), and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1). MetS was diagnosed at each measurement point. Mixed-effects and logistic regressions were performed. Those children with MetS in puberty presented higher prepubertal values of several cardiometabolic biomarkers in comparison to those without MetS (z-score body mass index (zBMI), waist circumference, insulin, HOMA-IR, leptin, and tPAI (p < 0.05)). For prepubertal children with obesity, the odds of developing MetS in puberty were significantly higher in those having high zBMI (OR = 4.27; CI: 1.39–22.59) or high concentrations of tPAI (OR = 1.19; CI: 1.06–1.43)Open Access funding provided thanks to the CRUE-CSIC agreement with Springer Nature.     Selective inhibition of HDAC6 regulates expression of the oncogenic driver EWSR1-FLI1 through the EWSR1 promoter in Ewing sarcoma

    Ewing sarcoma (EWS) is an aggressive bone and soft tissue tumor of children and young adults in which the principal driver is a fusion gene, EWSR1-FLI1. Although the essential role of EWSR1-FLI1 protein in the regulation of oncogenesis, survival, and tumor progression processes has been described in-depth, little is known about the regulation of chimeric fusion-gene expression. Here, we demonstrate that the active nuclear HDAC6 in EWS modulates the acetylation status of specificity protein 1 (SP1), consequently regulating the SP1/P300 activator complex binding to EWSR1 and EWSR1-FLI1 promoters. Selective inhibition of HDAC6 impairs binding of the activator complex SP1/P300, thereby inducing EWSR1-FLI1 downregulation and significantly reducing its oncogenic functions. In addition, sensitivity of EWS cell lines to HDAC6 inhibition is higher than other tumor or non-tumor cell lines. High expression of HDAC6 in primary EWS tumor samples from patients correlates with a poor prognosis in two independent series accounting 279 patients. Notably, a combination treatment of a selective HDAC6 and doxorubicin (a DNA damage agent used as a standard therapy of EWS patients) dramatically inhibits tumor growth in two EWS murine xenograft models.     Ultraviolet Radiation and Its Effects on Plants

    Ultraviolet radiation is a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum ranging from 10 to 400 nm, classified into three main categories: UV-A (320–400 nm), UV-B (280–320 nm), and UV-C (100–280 nm). The UV radiation from the sun that crosses the atmosphere and reaches the earth’s surface is composed largely of UV-A radiation (95%) and, to a lesser extent, UV-B (5%), which is normally filtered by stratospheric ozone. With the thinning of the ozone layer, UV-B radiation penetrates deeper into the earth’s surface, where it becomes dangerous due to its high energy content that acts at the molecular level, affecting the cycles of carbon, nitrogen, and other elements, thus, having a direct impact on global warming. On the other hand, UV radiation alters numerous essential organic compounds for living organisms. Since its discovery, it has been established that e UV-B causes alterations in plant development and metabolism, both primary and secondary.     Clonal chromosomal mosaicism and loss of chromosome Y in elderly men increase vulnerability for SARS-CoV-2

    The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19) had an estimated overall case fatality ratio of 1.38% (pre-vaccination), being 53% higher in males and increasing exponentially with age. Among 9578 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 in the SCOURGE study, we found 133 cases (1.42%) with detectable clonal mosaicism for chromosome alterations (mCA) and 226 males (5.08%) with acquired loss of chromosome Y (LOY). Individuals with clonal mosaic events (mCA and/or LOY) showed a 54% increase in the risk of COVID-19 lethality. LOY is associated with transcriptomic biomarkers of immune dysfunction, pro-coagulation activity and cardiovascular risk. Interferon-induced genes involved in the initial immune response to SARS-CoV-2 are also down-regulated in LOY. Thus, mCA and LOY underlie at least part of the sex-biased severity and mortality of COVID-19 in aging patients. Given its potential therapeutic and prognostic relevance, evaluation of clonal mosaicism should be implemented as biomarker of COVID-19 severity in elderly people.     Ante escenarios complejos, patriarcales y desoladores que dejan ver el neoliberalismo, la globalización agroalimentaria, el calentamiento global y las contaminaciones de granos nativos por la imposición de transgénicos, nos cuestionamos si existen algunas alternativas para preservar el maíz nativo como un recurso multiestratégico (alimentario, económico, cultural, ecológico y tecnológico) tomando en cuenta las condiciones actuales de desigualdades sociales de género, etnia, clases y edad que predominan en el campo mexicano. Para responder a algunos cuestionamientos, este libro presenta algunas alternativas a través de diversas experiencias femeninas y de relaciones de género en torno al maíz y la alimentación. Todas ellas muestran que es posible construir una masa crítica para salvaguardar el maíz nativo bajo esas condiciones desoladoras, pero siempre y cuando se “voltee la tortilla”, metáfora que da pie al inicio de otra realidad humanizada y en sincronía con la naturaleza.Proyecto realizado con financiamiento Conacy

    OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect of micronutrient supplementation on tuberculosis (TB) patient outcomes. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study was conducted in pulmonary TB patients undergoing directly observed treatment short course/ tratamiento acortado estrictamente supervisado (TAES/ DOTS) at IMSS in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, who were recruited during August 2005-July 2006. Consecutive patients received zinc and vitamin A supplements or matched placebo for four months. Dietary intake, blood zinc and vitamin A, immune response (IFN-&#947;,TNF-&#945;, and IL-10 mRNA), and sputum smear conversion were measured. RESULTS: The proportion of micronutrient compared to placebo group subjects with a negative sputum smear by month 3 was significantly increased (p= 0.03). This occurred subsequent to increased TNF-&#945; and IFN-&#947; and decreased IL-'0 observed at month 2. Micronutrient supplementation appeared to accelerate the beneficial therapeutic effect of chemotherapy. CONCLUSIONS: The earlier elimination of bacilli from sputum was associated with improved zinc status and Th' immune response. The therapeutic effect of vitamin A was less evident.<br>OBJETIVO: Determinar el efecto de la suplementación con zinc y vitamina A o placebo en pacientes tratados por tuberculosis (TB). MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Se realizó un ensayo aleatorizado en pacientes tuberculosos que iniciaron el tratamiento acortado estrictamente supervisado/ directly observed treatment short course (TAES/DOTS) en las clínicas del IMSS, Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, México, reclutados durante agosto 2005-julio 2006. A cada paciente en forma aleatoria se le designó un código para recibir ya sea micronutrientes o placebo por cuatro meses, bajo el diseño doble ciego. Se evaluó la ingesta dietética, niveles de zinc y vitamina A en sangre, respuesta inmune (IFN-&#947;,TNF-&#945;, IL-l0 mRNA en sangre) y bacilo ácido alcohol resistente (BAAR) en esputo. RESULTADOS: Al tercer mes de la suplementación, la proporción de sujetos con BAAR negativo en el grupo de micronutrientes aumentó significativamente en relación con el grupo placebo (p= 0.03), que va asociado al previo (segundo mes) incremento de los niveles de TNF-&#945;, e IFN-&#947; y disminución de los niveles de IL-10. CONCLUSIONES: Suplementación con los micronutrientes aparentemente aceleran el efecto terapéutico de la quimioterapia. La negativización temprana del BAAR en esputo se asoció con la recuperación del estatus de zinc y la respuesta Thl. El efecto terapéutico de vitamina A es menos evidente

    The Role of Non-Coding RNAs in Autophagy During Carcinogenesis.

    Macroautophagy (autophagy herein) is a cellular stress response and a survival pathway involved in self-renewal and quality control processes to maintain cellular homeostasis. The alteration of autophagy has been implicated in numerous diseases such as cancer where it plays a dual role. Autophagy serves as a tumor suppressor in the early phases of cancer formation with the restoration of homeostasis and eliminating cellular altered constituents, yet in later phases, autophagy may support and/or facilitate tumor growth, metastasis and may contribute to treatment resistance. Key components of autophagy interact with either pro- and anti-apoptotic factors regulating the proximity of tumor cells to apoptotic cliff promoting cell survival. Autophagy is regulated by key cell signaling pathways such as Akt (protein kinase B, PKB), mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) involved in cell survival and metabolism. The expression of critical members of upstream cell signaling, as well as those directly involved in the autophagic and apoptotic machineries are regulated by microRNAs (miRNAs) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). Consequently, non-coding RNAs play a relevant role in carcinogenesis and treatment response in cancer. The review is an update of the current knowledge in the regulation by miRNA and lncRNA of the autophagic components and their functional impact to provide an integrated and comprehensive regulatory network of autophagy in cancer
