    The Fragments, Run-Ons, and Comma Splices in Selected Types of Paragraph Writing

    Writing is a challenge for non-native English writers since the process of transferring the message includes the writers’ writing competence and it is recorded permanently. As a result, the English learners make errors when they lack the writing skill and knowledge. This study aims to reveal the fragments, run-ons, and comma splices in selected types of paragraphs, namely descriptive paragraph, paragraph of logical division of ideas, process paragraph, and comparison-contrast paragraph. The empirical, quantitative approach is used to identify the frequency of each kind of error in the paragraphs written by students of English Department in University of Widya Dharma Pontianak in academic year 2021/2022. To conclude, the errors occur mostly in comparison-contrast paragraphs (37.96%) as there are different ways of organization. Furthermore, the most frequent kind of error is fragment (66.67%), which is missing an independent clause (41.67%). This is due to the students’ experiencing incomplete thought or their having an afterthought following their previous finished sentence. Lastly, the paragraph of logical divisions of ideas has the least errors (13.89%) and the kind of error that rarely occurs is run-on (9.26%)

    Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penerapan perjanjian baku dan akibat hukumnya bagi perlindungan konsumen, dikarenakan dalam praktiknya ada perjanjian yang tidak ada kata sepakatnya dan dibuat secara sepihak. Artinya ada pihak-pihak tertentu yang membuat isi perjanjian dan pihak lainnya harus menyepakatinya tanpa persetujuan yang biasanya disebut dengan klausula baku. Hukum perlindungan konsumen di Indonesia tidak mengatur secara eksplisit mengenai penjanjian yang di dalamnya memuat klausula baku, Klausula baku jika diterapkan akan merugikan konsumen sebagai pembeli barang dan jasa serta tidak memenuhi syarat-syarat sahnya suatu perjanjian, sehingga dalam penerapannya perjanjian yang memuat klausula ini secara sepihak akan bertentangan dengan aturan. Hasilnya adalah penerapan perjanjian sepihak ini banyak menimbulkan kerugian bagi konsumen dikarenakan hanya memberikan keuntungan bagi para penjual atau pelaku usaha saja dan tidak memenuhi syarat sahnya suatu perjanjian. Perjanjian yang menggunakan klausula baku dapat menimbulkan sengketa atau kerugian bagi pembeli sebagai konsumen yang hanya menerima saja jika ada sengketa yang timbul dan dalam hukum perjanjian tidak dilaksanakan berdasarkan kesepakatan dan itikad baik antara ke dua belah pihak yaitu penjual dan pembeli

    This research aims to examine the influence of consumer psychographic characteristics (purchase experience, consumer innovativeness, vanity seeking, and variaty seeking behavior) on attitudes towards makeup tutorial videos, the influence of attitude towards on makeup tutorial videos on brand image and the influence of brand image on purchase interest. Data was collected through a survey on 300 female respondents in Yogyakarta Special Region and Central Java, aged 15-45 years old. Data were analyzed using linear regression analysis. The results showed that purchase experience, vanity seeking behavior, and variety seeking behavior positively effect attitudes towards makeup tutorials video, while consumer innovativenes does not affect attitude towards makeup tutorial video. Attitudes towards makeup tutorials video positively effect brand image and brand image positively effect purchase intention

    Pengembangan Komik Digital Interaktif untuk Memperkuat Kemampuan Membaca pada Materi Pengukuran Panjang dan Berat Kelas II SD

    Permasalahan yang terjadi di Sekolah Dasar (SD) adalah penggunaan media komik yang masih jarang digunakan, siswa yang masih mengalami kesulitan membaca, dan penggunaan media pembelajaran yang kurang kreatif dan inovatif. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui desain pengembangan komik digital interaktif dan kelayakan uji validasi ahli. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Research and Development dengan desain prosedur pengembangan Borg and Gall yang dimodifikasi oleh Sukmadinata. Model pengembangan yang digunakan yaitu ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluate). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan sampai tahap uji validasi ahli. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan observasi di kelas II SD Kanisius Bedono. Hasil uji validasi ahli media sebesar 90% dengan kategori “Sangat Tinggi”. Hasil uji validasi ahli materi sebesar 96% dengan kategori “Sangat Tinggi”. Hasil uji validasi ahli bahasa sebesar 68% dengan kategori “Tinggi”. Media memperoleh kritik dan saran perbaikan dari validator sehingga dapat membantu guru dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Pengembangan media komik digital interaktif memiliki kelebihan untuk membantu siswa dalam memahami materi pengukuran panjang dan berat dan memperkuat kemampuan membaca siswa kelas II SD.     A PROCESS-GENRE BASED APPROACH TO TEACHING WRITING DISCUSSION TEXT TO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti penggunaan pendekatan berbasis Proses-Genre dalam pengajaran menulis teks Diskusi pada siswa kelas dua belas di salah satu SMA di Majalengka, Jawa Barat. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk melihat respon siswa terhadap penggunaan pendekatan ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian deskriptif dengan karakteristik studi kasus. Data diperoleh dari beberapa sumber, antara lain observasi kelas, teks tulis siswa, dan wawancara. Data hasil observasi dianalisis berdasarkan penerapan pendekatan berbasis Process-Genre di kelas. Selain itu, teks tulis siswa dari enam siswa dianalisis berdasarkan struktur skematik dan ciri kebahasaan teks Diskusi menggunakan kerangka SFL. Terakhir, data hasil wawancara dianalisis berdasarkan prosedur analisis deskriptif (Sugiyono, 2012). Temuan menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan berbasis Proses-Genre bermanfaat untuk meningkatkan kinerja siswa dalam menulis teks Diskusi. Semua siswa memenuhi empat struktur penting teks Diskusi dan menggunakan berbagai fitur kebahasaan dalam tulisan mereka. Selanjutnya, para siswa menunjukkan respon positif terhadap program pengajaran dengan mengatakan bahwa mereka belajar hal-hal baru tentang genre, mengalami proses menulis, dan memperluas pengetahuan mereka tentang tata bahasa. Namun demikian, dicatat bahwa siswa kelompok satu membutuhkan lebih banyak paparan, bimbingan dan pengajaran eksplisit dalam tahap Modeling untuk membantu mereka meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam menulis. Temuan penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memperkaya sumber tentang pengajaran menulis di Indonesia dan memberikan informasi untuk mengatasi masalah yang berhubungan dengan pendekatan ini di kelas EFL di Indonesia. Kata Kunci: Menulis, Pendekatan Berbasis Proses-Genre, SFL, Teks Diskusi This study aimed to investigate the use of Process-Genre based approach to teaching writing Discussion text to twelve-graders of one senior high school in Majalengka, West Java. This study also aimed to observe students’ responses towards the use of this approach. This study utilized a descriptive research design employing the characteristics of a case study. The data were gained from several sources, including classroom observation, students’ written texts, and interview. The data from observation were analysed based on the implementation of Process-Genre based approach in the classroom. Moreover, students’ written texts from six students were analyzed in terms of the schematic structure and linguistic features of Discussion text using the framework of SFL. Finally, the data from the interview were analyzed based on a descriptive analysis procedure (Sugiyono, 2012). The findings showed that Process-Genre based approach was beneficial to improve students’ performance in writing Discussion text. All students fulfilled four significant structure of Discussion text and used various linguistic features in their writing. Furthermore, the students showed positive responses towards the teaching program saying that they learnt new things about the genre, experienced writing processes, and expanded their knowledge about grammar. Nevertheless, it was noted that group one students needed more exposures, guidance and explicit teaching in Modeling stage to help them improve their ability in writing. The findings of this study are expected to enrich the resources about teaching writing in Indonesia and provide information to cope with the problems related to the approach in EFL classroom in Indonesia.
