    Estimation of hedonistic price function for Claude Monet's pictures

    On the basis of the data set for Claude Monet's pictures, sold on large auctions worldwide from April, 1997 till December, 2009, it is estimated hedonic regression model. We model the work’s price on the base of the number of its characteristics, such as: the size of a picture, techniques of execution and a material of a basis, an auction house, presence of signature/date, participation of work in exhibitions and a mention in the specialized editions, lot numbers and experience of the artist by the moment of the creation of the work. The estimated regression is significant and explains 76% of a dispersion of the prices.     Right, No Matter Why: AI Fact-checking and AI Authority in Health-related Inquiry Settings

    Previous research on expert advice-taking shows that humans exhibit two contradictory behaviors: on the one hand, people tend to overvalue their own opinions undervaluing the expert opinion, and on the other, people often defer to other people's advice even if the advice itself is rather obviously wrong. In our study, we conduct an exploratory evaluation of users' AI-advice accepting behavior when evaluating the truthfulness of a health-related statement in different "advice quality" settings. We find that even feedback that is confined to just stating that "the AI thinks that the statement is false/true" results in more than half of people moving their statement veracity assessment towards the AI suggestion. The different types of advice given influence the acceptance rates, but the sheer effect of getting a suggestion is often bigger than the suggestion-type effect

The traditional division of a person’s active life into the period of professional activity and study is blurring. There is a need for a transition to continuing professional education throughout life. One of the most important tasks for the management is to ensure the continuous development and survival of the organizations. Such a task is also vital for the institutions of additional professional education. With the transition to the newly established market relations, in the Russian Federation, the conditions for the operation of the system of additional professional education have changed significantly. First of all, a market for services in the field of additional professional education has emerged, where a large number of organizations of various forms of ownership operate, creating strong competition. In these conditions, the maximum consideration of different factors influencing on the additional professional education institutions, as well as the choice of a management strategy, is an important condition for their successful development and competitiveness. The demand of society for an effective system of additional vocational education determines its place and role in the state policy in relation to the development of human resources. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account the challenges of the labor market, the increasing needs of production, the real sector of the economy, the non-production sphere in qualified workers, specialists, managers, as well as training and re-training of unemployed citizens

    Cross-Polarization OCT for In Vivo Diagnostics and Prediction of Bladder Cancer

    This chapter contains three parts covering recent efforts to increase the accuracy of optical coherence tomography (OCT) differential diagnostics of bladder pathologies. The first part compares the diagnostic efficacy of traditional OCT and cross-polarization OCT (CP OCT); CP OCT and fluorescence cystoscopy (FC) for detecting flat lesions in the bladder at the early stages of cancer. The second part contains a report on achievements in application of CP OCT for detection of recurrent carcinoma in the scar area that is a hardly distinguishable form of bladder cancer using an optimized CP OCT image analysis. The third part of the chapter reviews the results on CP OCT usage for in vivo diagnosis of the bladder cancer after radiation therapy of cervical cancer

    The impact of Ty3-gypsy group LTR retrotransposons Fatima on B-genome specificity of polyploid wheats

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Transposable elements (TEs) are a rapidly evolving fraction of the eukaryotic genomes and the main contributors to genome plasticity and divergence. Recently, occupation of the A- and D-genomes of allopolyploid wheat by specific TE families was demonstrated. Here, we investigated the impact of the well-represented family of <it>gypsy </it>LTR-retrotransposons, <it>Fatima</it>, on B-genome divergence of allopolyploid wheat using the fluorescent <it>in situ </it>hybridisation (FISH) method and phylogenetic analysis.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>FISH analysis of a BAC clone (BAC_2383A24) initially screened with Spelt1 repeats demonstrated its predominant localisation to chromosomes of the B-genome and its putative diploid progenitor <it>Aegilops speltoides </it>in hexaploid (genomic formula, BBAADD) and tetraploid (genomic formula, BBAA) wheats as well as their diploid progenitors. Analysis of the complete BAC_2383A24 nucleotide sequence (113 605 bp) demonstrated that it contains 55.6% TEs, 0.9% subtelomeric tandem repeats (Spelt1), and five genes. LTR retrotransposons are predominant, representing 50.7% of the total nucleotide sequence. Three elements of the <it>gypsy </it>LTR retrotransposon family <it>Fatima </it>make up 47.2% of all the LTR retrotransposons in this BAC. <it>In situ </it>hybridisation of the <it>Fatima</it>_2383A24-3 subclone suggests that individual representatives of the <it>Fatima </it>family contribute to the majority of the B-genome specific FISH pattern for BAC_2383A24. Phylogenetic analysis of various <it>Fatima </it>elements available from databases in combination with the data on their insertion dates demonstrated that the <it>Fatima </it>elements fall into several groups. One of these groups, containing <it>Fatima</it>_2383A24-3, is more specific to the B-genome and proliferated around 0.5-2.5 MYA, prior to allopolyploid wheat formation.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The B-genome specificity of the <it>gypsy</it>-like <it>Fatima</it>, as determined by FISH, is explained to a great degree by the appearance of a genome-specific element within this family for <it>Ae. speltoides</it>. Moreover, its proliferation mainly occurred in this diploid species before it entered into allopolyploidy.</p> <p>Most likely, this scenario of emergence and proliferation of the genome-specific variants of retroelements, mainly in the diploid species, is characteristic of the evolution of all three genomes of hexaploid wheat.</p

    Retinal Origin of Electrically Evoked Potentials in Response to Transcorneal Alternating Current Stimulation in the Rat

    PURPOSE: Little is known about the physiological mechanisms underlying the reported therapeutic effects of transorbital alternating current stimulation (ACS) in vision restoration, or the origin of the recorded electrically evoked potentials (EEPs) during such stimulation. We examined the issue of EEP origin and electrode configuration for transorbital ACS and characterized the physiological responses to CS in different structures of the visual system. METHODS: We recorded visually evoked potentials (VEPs) and EEPs from the rat retina, visual thalamus, tectum, and visual cortex. The VEPs were evoked by light flashes and EEPs were evoked by electric stimuli delivered by two electrodes placed either together on the same eye or on the eyeball and in the neck. Electrically evoked potentials and VEPs were recorded before and after bilateral intraorbital injections of tetrodotoxin that blocked retinal ganglion cell activity. RESULTS: Tetrodotoxin abolished VEPs at all levels in the visual pathway, confirming successful blockage of ganglion cell activity. Tetrodotoxin also abolished EEPs and this effect was independent of the stimulating electrode configurations. CONCLUSIONS: Transorbital electrically evoked responses in the visual pathway, irrespective of reference electrode placement, are initiated by activation of the retina and not by passive conductance and direct activation of neurons in other visual structures. Thus, placement of stimulating electrodes exclusively around the eyeball may be sufficient to achieve therapeutic effects

    Potential possibilities of application of new types of high-speed vessels in the tourist sphere of the Black Sea aria

    The paper deals with some issues related to the study of the potential use of new types of high-speed passenger ships for the organization of maritime passenger traffic between the ports of the Black Sea. In addition, a project was proposed for organizing excursion passenger lines between the Black Sea and Mediterranean ports, as well as tours along the coastline. Recently, special attention has been paid to the development of sea tourism in the Black Sea. However, for the organization of this type of tourist activity, it is important to understand the possibilities of using special types of marine passenger ships developed by domestic designers. The implementation of design ideas in the very near future will make it possible to organize highly efficient maritime liner and cruise communications on the Black Sea
