The great altar of Pergamo is one of the most important examples on the Hellenistic art, knowledge and thought. Erected by Eumenes II as a gratitude sign for gods help in the Gallic wars, this monument was part of the state propaganda and political and national exaltation. The selected subject for the outer frieze was the Gigantomachy myth or cosmogonic battle between gods and giants; the inner frieze told the story of Telephos, the legendary city founder. The present article deals with the meanings of this building, considered as one of the wonders from Antiquity
It is based on literary sources and visual arts created between Vlllth and llth centuries B.C. The final challenge to the authority of the Olympians came from the Giants, sons of Gala born from the drops of blood that fell from Ouranos' severed members. It was the subject on the north frieze of the Siphinian Treasury at Delphi and had a particular importance on the eastern metopes of the Parthenon (Acrópolis of Athens) and on the altar large frieze at Pergamon. The analysis intends to throw some light on the Greek way to understand their own history
El ganado vacuno en Sumer y Acad
Cattle were a very important domesticated species in the Near East with goats and sheep. They hoid a special and central place in economy of agro-pastoral ancient society in Mesopotamia, providing good resources of meat, dairy producís, leather and dung, besides labor and draft. However, the highest cost of cattie breeding resulted in a poor diet from these peoples and led to the almost exclusive possession of these animáis by the ruling classes. The valuable and commercial characteristic of cattie was transferred to the religious sphere where its offering and sacrifico became the best gift for the divinity. The sacrificial feasts turned out to be, in many cases, an excellent occasion for the consumption of a special dish which only few people could normally enjoy everyday life
