A Profile of Pornography Users in Australia: Findings From the Second Australian Study of Health and Relationships
Copyright © The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. There are societal concerns that looking at pornography has adverse consequences among those exposed. However, looking at sexually explicit material could have educative and relationship benefits. This article identifies factors associated with looking at pornography ever or within the past 12 months for men and women in Australia, and the extent to which reporting an âaddictionâ to pornography is associated with reported bad effects. Data from the Second Australian Study of Health and Relationships (ASHR2) were used: computer-assisted telephone interviews (CASIs) completed by a representative sample of 9,963 men and 10,131 women aged 16 to 69 years from all Australian states and territories, with an overall participation rate of 66%. Most men (84%) and half of the women (54%) had ever looked at pornographic material. Three-quarters of these men (76%) and more than one-third of these women (41%) had looked at pornographic material in the past year. Very few respondents reported that they were addicted to pornography (men 4%, women 1%), and of those who said they were addicted about half also reported that using pornography had had a bad effect on them. Looking at pornographic material appears to be reasonably common in Australia, with adverse effects reported by a small minority
Black Holes in Modified Gravity (MOG)
The field equations for Scalar-Tensor-Vector-Gravity (STVG) or modified
gravity (MOG) have a static, spherically symmetric black hole solution
determined by the mass with two horizons. The strength of the gravitational
constant is where is a parameter. A regular
singularity-free MOG solution is derived using a nonlinear field dynamics for
the repulsive gravitational field component and a reasonable physical
energy-momentum tensor. The Kruskal-Szekeres completion of the MOG black hole
solution is obtained. The Kerr-MOG black hole solution is determined by the
mass , the parameter and the spin angular momentum . The
equations of motion and the stability condition of a test particle orbiting the
MOG black hole are derived, and the radius of the black hole photosphere and
the shadows cast by the Schwarzschild-MOG and Kerr-MOG black holes are
calculated. A traversable wormhole solution is constructed with a throat

Glassy transition in the three-dimensional random field Ising model
The high temperature phase of the three dimensional random field Ising model
is studied using replica symmetry breaking framework. It is found that, above
the ferromagnetic transition temperature T_f, there appears a glassy phase at
intermediate temperatures T_f<T<T_b while the usual paramagnetic phase exists
for T>T_b only. Correlation length at T_b is computed and found to be

Relative blocking in posets
Poset-theoretic generalizations of set-theoretic committee constructions are
presented. The structure of the corresponding subposets is described. Sequences
of irreducible fractions associated to the principal order ideals of finite
bounded posets are considered and those related to the Boolean lattices are
explored; it is shown that such sequences inherit all the familiar properties

Socially-mediated arousal and contagion within domestic chick broods
Emotional contagion â an underpinning valenced feature of empathy â is made up of simpler, potentially dissociable social processes which can include socially-mediated arousal and behavioural/physiological contagion. Previous studies of emotional contagion have often conflated these processes rather than examining their independent contribution to empathic response. We measured socially-mediated arousal and contagion in 9-week old domestic chicks (nâ=â19 broods), who were unrelated but raised together from hatching. Pairs of observer chicks were exposed to two conditions in a counterbalanced order: air puff to conspecifics (AP) (during which an air puff was applied to three conspecifics at 30âs intervals) and control with noise of air puff (C) (during which the air puff was directed away from the apparatus at 30âs intervals). Behaviour and surface eye temperature of subjects and observers were measured throughout a 10-min pre-treatment and 10-min treatment period. Subjects and observers responded to AP with increased freezing, and reduced preening and ground pecking. Subjects and observers also showed reduced surface eye temperature - indicative of stress-induced hyperthermia. Subject-Observer behaviour was highly correlated within broods during both C and AP conditions, but with higher overall synchrony during AP. Radial distribution of stars, gas and dust in SINGS galaxies. I. Surface photometry and morphology
We present ultraviolet through far-infrared surface brightness profiles for
the 75 galaxies in the Spitzer Infrared Nearby Galaxies Survey (SINGS). The
imagery used to measure the profiles includes GALEX UV data, optical images
from KPNO, CTIO and SDSS, near-IR data from 2MASS, and mid- and far-infrared
images from Spitzer. Along with the radial profiles, we also provide
multi-wavelength asymptotic magnitudes and several non-parametric indicators of
galaxy morphology: the concentration index (C_42), the asymmetry (A), the Gini
coefficient (G) and the normalized second-order moment of the brightest 20% of
the galaxy's flux (M_20). Our radial profiles show a wide range of morphologies
and multiple components (bulges, exponential disks, inner and outer disk
truncations, etc.) that vary not only from galaxy to galaxy but also with
wavelength for a given object. In the optical and near-IR, the SINGS galaxies
occupy the same regions in the C_42-A-G-M_20 parameter space as other normal
galaxies in previous studies. However, they appear much less centrally
concentrated, more asymmetric and with larger values of G when viewed in the UV
(due to star-forming clumps scattered across the disk) and in the mid-IR (due
to the emission of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons at 8.0 microns and very hot

Gleam: the GLAST Large Area Telescope Simulation Framework
This paper presents the simulation of the GLAST high energy gamma-ray
telescope. The simulation package, written in C++, is based on the Geant4
toolkit, and it is integrated into a general framework used to process events.
A detailed simulation of the electronic signals inside Silicon detectors has
been provided and it is used for the particle tracking, which is handled by a
dedicated software. A unique repository for the geometrical description of the
detector has been realized using the XML language and a C++ library to access

Characterizing normal crossing hypersurfaces
The objective of this article is to give an effective algebraic
characterization of normal crossing hypersurfaces in complex manifolds. It is
shown that a hypersurface has normal crossings if and only if it is a free
divisor, has a radical Jacobian ideal and a smooth normalization. Using K.
Saito's theory of free divisors, also a characterization in terms of
logarithmic differential forms and vector fields is found and and finally
another one in terms of the logarithmic residue using recent results of M.
