La razón de cambio. Niveles de comprensión del profesor de educación básica en México

En este reporte damos cuenta de algunos resultados parciales obtenidos de una investigación diseñada con el propósito de identificar el nivel de comprensión que alcanza el profesor de educación básica en México acerca del concepto de razón de cambio. La exploración la realizamos en el contexto de un programa de actualización aplicando un cuestionario donde solicitamos describir el concepto y resolver problemas. El análisis de las descripciones descubre la nula comprensión en los profesores de preescolar y primaria hasta alcanzar niveles poco significativos en el profesor de secundaria. Esto contrasta con la comprensión operatoria del concepto presente en las trayectorias de solución diseñadas por los profesores en la resolución de problemas, el cual evoluciona un poco en los profesores de preescolar y primaria, pero alcanza su máxima expresión en el profesor de secundaria. Las aportaciones contribuyeron involucrar al profesor en un proceso de comprensión autónomo de los conceptos emergentes

La otra guerra que Washington no está ganando

Para EEUU, la guerra contra las bandas juveniles centroamericanas sólo se ve superada en importancia por la guerra contra el terrorismo internacional. En un discurso que pronunció el pasado mes de marzo, el fiscal general estadounidense, Alberto Gonzales, declaró que la guerra contra las bandas juveniles centroamericanas en general, y contra la Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) en particular, sólo es superada en importancia por la guerra contra al-Qaeda. Por desgracia, de forma muy similar a lo que sucede con la guerra contra el terrorismo internacional en Irak, EEUU está consiguiendo escasos resultados en la lucha contra estas bandas. De hecho, los datos indican que las maras, como suelen denominarse estas bandas en Centroamérica, han aumentado de tamaño, son más violentas y están mejor organizadas, lo cual aumenta hasta niveles alarmantes la amenaza que representan para Centroamérica y EEUU

Voting in small networks with cross-pressure

We present a model of participation in elections in small networks, in which citizens su¤er from cross-pressures if voting against the alternative preferred by some of their social contacts. Bounded Confidence under Preferential Flip: A Coupled Dynamics of Structural Balance and Opinions

In this work we study the coupled dynamics of social balance and opinion formation. We propose a model where agents form opinions under bounded confidence, but only considering the opinions of their friends. The signs of social ties -friendships and enmities- evolve seeking for social balance, taking into account how similar agents' opinions are. We consider both the case where opinions have one and two dimensions. We find that our dynamics produces the segregation of agents into two cliques, with the opinions of agents in one clique differing from those in the other. Depending on the level of bounded confidence, the dynamics can produce either consensus of opinions within each clique or the coexistence of several opinion clusters in a clique. For the uni-dimensional case, the opinions in one clique are all below the opinions in the other clique, hence defining a "left clique" and a "right clique". In the two-dimensional case, our numerical results suggest that the two cliques are separated by a hyperplane in the opinion space. We also show that the phenomenon of unidimensional opinions identified by DeMarzo, Vayanos and Zwiebel (Q J Econ 2003) extends partially to our dynamics. Logic Negation with Spiking Neural P Systems

Nowadays, the success of neural networks as reasoning systems is doubtless. Nonetheless, one of the drawbacks of such reasoning systems is that they work as black-boxes and the acquired knowledge is not human readable. In this paper, we present a new step in order to close the gap between connectionist and logic based reasoning systems. We show that two of the most used inference rules for obtaining negative information in rule based reasoning systems, the so-called Closed World Assumption and Negation as Finite Failure can be characterized by means of spiking neural P systems, a formal model of the third generation of neural networks born in the framework of membrane computing.Comment: 25 pages, 1 figur
