The Bologna process in accounting: effects on students satisfaction

La adaptación de las universidades españolas al Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior (EEES) ha introducido un cambio de modelo educativo. Tradicionalmente, la educación universitaria en España se ha centrado en el marco del Modelo de Instrucción, cuya base es proveer instrucción. Sin embargo, con la introducción experimental al EEES, se observa una tendencia hacia el Modelo de Aprendizaje, cuya base es proveer aprendizaje. El artículo analiza los efectos sobre la satisfacción de los estudiantes universitarios de asignaturas de contabilidad en la Universidad Pompeu Fabra después de modificar la metodología de enseñanza acercándose al Modelo de Aprendizaje. Los resultados indican un aumento de la satisfacción en el proceso de aprendizaje. Esta satisfacción fue mayor durante los años iniciales de “experimentación” que en los años de “consolidación” de esta metodología. La caída de la satisfacción coincide con una mayor carga de trabajo al incrementarse el número de asignaturas impartidas simultáneamente con esta metodología.The adaptation of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) in the Spanish universities it is implying a change of educational paradigm for undergraduate education. Traditionally, undergraduate education in Spain has been delivered under the Instruction Paradigm based on providing instruction. However, in the experimental introduction to the EEES a move towards the Learning Paradigm, the basis of which is to produce learning, has been observed. This paper analyses the effects on students’ satisfaction after modifying the teaching methodology so that subjects become nearer the Learning Paradigm. The data has been extracted from the satisfaction surveys completed by students in subjects belonging to the accounting area at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. The main results of the model show that the satisfaction was higher during the initial “testing” period of the methodology than in the consolidation period. This satisfaction drop coincides with an increased student workload due to the higher number of subjects taught simultaneously under the new methodology

La investigación sobre emprendimiento en el ámbito deportivo. Revisión de los documentos publicados en la WOS

Este artículo presenta una revisión de las investigaciones realizadas sobre emprendimiento en el ámbito deportivo, basándose en los documentos publicados en la WOS sobre esta temática. Se han encontrado 109 documentos publicados en esta base de datos hasta el año 2014, habiendo sido éstos clasificados según el autor, la revista publicada, las palabras clave utilizadas, el año de publicación, el idioma utilizado, la institución de procedencia del autor de correspondencia y el país de éste mismo. Para medir el impacto de éstos, se han utilizado los índices Recs, LCS y GCS. Los resultados muestran que el año en el que más publicaciones se han realizado es el 2011, que la mayoría de éstas son en inglés y proceden de universidades extranjeras, siendo USA y UK los países que más han publicado sobre este tema. Sin embargo, pese a que en los últimos años el número de publicaciones sobre emprendimiento en el deporte ha aumentado en esta base de datos, a nivel español, tanto por parte de autores de esta nacionalidad como del propio país así como instituciones son aún muy escasas las investigaciones que se han realizado en este ámbito

Luteinizing hormone induces ovulation via tumor necrosis factor α-dependent increases in prostaglandin F2α in a nonmammalian vertebrate

Ovulation is induced by the preovulatory surge of luteinizing hormone (LH) that acts on the ovary and triggers the rupture of the preovulatory ovarian follicle by stimulating proteolysis and apoptosis in the follicle wall, causing the release of the mature oocyte. The pro-inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα) and prostaglandin (PG) F2α (PGF2α) are involved in the control of ovulation but their role mediating the pro-ovulatory actions of LH is not well established. Here we show that Lh induces PGF2α synthesis through its stimulation of Tnfα production in trout, a primitive teleost fish. Recombinant trout Tnfα (rTnfα) and PGF2α recapitulate the stimulatory in vitro effects of salmon Lh (sLh) on contraction, proteolysis and loss of cell viability in the preovulatory follicle wall and, finally, ovulation. Furthermore, all pro-ovulatory actions of sLh are blocked by inhibition of Tnfα secretion or PG synthesis and all actions of rTnfα are blocked by PG synthesis inhibitors. Therefore, we provide evidence that the Tnfα-dependent increase in PGF2α production is necessary for the pro-ovulatory actions of Lh. The results from this study shed light onto the mechanisms underlying the pro-ovulatory actions of LH in vertebrates and may prove important in clinical assessments of female infertility

Perceived quality of basketball spectators : a measurement scale validation

The aim of the study was to obtain a valid, reliable and reduced measurement scale of basketball spectators. Trough application of structural equation modelling Eventqual scale was reduced to nine items and three dimensions with good indexes of reliability and validity. The resulting factor structure determined the tangibles, the personnel and the complementary services as quality dimensions for basketball spectators.El objetivo del presente estudio fue obtener una escala de calidad percibida por los espectadores de baloncesto válida, fiable y reducida. Mediante la aplicación de modelos de ecuaciones estructurales se redujo la escala Eventqual a nueve ítems y tres dimensiones con buenos indicadores de fiabilidad y validez. La estructura factorial resultante determinó como dimensiones de calidad para los espectadores de baloncesto a los tangibles, el personal y los servicios complementarios.O objetivo deste estudo foi obter uma escala de qualidade percebida pelos espectadores de basquetebol válida, fiável e reduzida. Através da aplicação de modelos de equações estruturais reduziu-se a escala Eventqual a nove itens e três dimensões, com bons indicadores de fidelidade e validade. Transcriptional Assessment by Microarray Analysis and Large-Scale Meta-analysis of the Metabolic Capacity of Cardiac and Skeletal Muscle Tissues to Cope With Reduced Nutrient Availability in Gilthead Sea Bream (Sparus aurata L.)

The effects of nutrient availability on the transcriptome of cardiac and skeletal muscle tissues were assessed in juvenile gilthead sea bream fed with a standard diet at two feeding levels: (1) full ration size and (2) 70 % satiation followed by a finishing phase at the maintenance ration. Microarray analysis evidenced a characteristic transcriptomic profile for each muscle tissue following changes in oxidative capacity (heart > red skeletal muscle > white skeletal muscle). The transcriptome of heart and secondly that of red skeletal muscle were highly responsive to nutritional changes, whereas that of glycolytic white skeletal muscle showed less ability to respond. The highly expressed and nutritionally regulated genes of heart were mainly related to signal transduction and transcriptional regulation. In contrast, those of white muscle were enriched in gene ontology (GO) terms related to proteolysis and protein ubiquitination. Microarray meta-analysis using the bioinformatic tool Fish and Chips (http://fishandchips.genouest.org/index.php) showed the close association of a representative cluster of white skeletal muscle with some of cardiac and red skeletal muscle, and many GO terms related to mitochondrial function appeared to be common links between them. A second round of cluster comparisons revealed that mitochondria-related GOs also linked differentially expressed genes of heart with those of liver from cortisol-treated gilthead sea bream. These results show that mitochondria are among the first responders to environmental and nutritional stress stimuli in gilthead sea bream, and functional phenotyping of this cellular organelle is highly promising to obtain reliable markers of growth performance and well-being in this fish species. © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media New York.This work was funded by the EU seventh Framework Programme by the AQUAEXCEL (Aquaculture Infrastructures for Excellence in European Fish Research, FP7/2007-2012; grant agreement no. 262336) project.
