Middle Miocene limestone from Cape Barren Island, Furneaux Group, Bass Strait
In 1935 Mr. F. Blake of the Geological Survey of Tasmania visited Cape
Barren Island in connexion with the underground water supply at Franklin Village,
which is situated on Sandford Bay in the north-west part of the Island. He collected
a small sample of fossiliferous limestone which he forwarded to the late Mr. F.
Chapman, who was then Commonwealth Palaeontologist. No examination of the
material was made at the time. Recently it came under the notice of the writer,
who has made a detailed microscopic examination of it, with the following results:-
The rock is a hard to friable, cream coloured, bryozoal limestone. The residue
after washing contains numerous foraminifera and bryozoa, but the majority of
the specimens are poorly preserved
This article focuses on recent drug enforcement policies (1995-2003) applied to road safety. Drawing attention to drug screening tests, the paper analyzes recent changes in public administration in this area of interest. This approach enables to show that the measurement process of instruments usage varies according to a number of criteria : scientific knowledge, modes of promoting the issue (to which tests are meant to respond) as well as changes in political forces at stake. However, political prospect and political antagonism to a larger extent account for the conditional stabilization of instruments usage. Indeed, the latter organize long-term drug enforcement public action
Synthesis of infinite-layer LaNiO2 films by metal-organic deposition
We report the synthesis of infinite-layer LaNiO2 thin films by metal organic
decomposition. Our work is aimed to synthesize perovskite-like oxides with 3d9
electronic configuration, which is common to high-Tc copper oxides. The 3d9
configuration is very rare in oxides other than cuprates. Ni1+ oxides, even
though Ni1+ is an unusual oxidation state, may be one of very few candidates.
One example of the Ni1+ phases is infinite-layer LaNiO2. The bulk synthesis of
LaNiO2 is difficult, but we demonstrate in this article that the thin-film
synthesis of LaNiO2 by metal organic decomposition is rather easy. This is due
to the advantage of thin films with a large-surface-to-volume ratio, which
makes oxygen diffusion prompt. Resistivity measurements indicate that LaNiO2 is
essentially a metal but unfortunately with no trace of superconductivity yet.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure
Some Recent Foraminifera from Vestfold Hills, Antarctica
Twenty-three species of Recent foraminifera are described from Vestfold Hills, Antarctica. Six species are new : Quinqueloculina serra, Stainforthia concisa, S. vestfoldensis, Laryngosigma antarctica, L. liquida, and Cassidulina biora. The assemblage is dominated by Cassidulina biora. Arctic species have been identified

SOCIAL WORKERS’ PREPAREDNESS FOR PRACTICE WITH PATIENTS EXPERIENCING PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS
The present study explored the preparedness of social workers when providing services to individuals diagnosed with psychotic disorders who present with non-affective psychosis. The present study sought to examine the perceived barriers to mental health service utilization for individuals diagnosed with psychotic disorders as well as the perceived preparedness of social workers when providing services to individuals with non-affective psychosis. Social workers are crucial frontline workers in the treatment and support of individuals diagnosed with psychotic disorder. This qualitative study was comprised of twelve semi-structured interviews to gauge the preparedness of social workers (N=12). Results from the thematic analysis demonstrated social workers are not prepared to provide services to individuals diagnosed with psychotic disorders. Themes included difficulty transitioning from theoretical knowledge to real-world practice, lack of exposure to real-world experiences and mentorship opportunities, perceived levels of preparedness were lacking when encountering individuals experiencing psychosis especially during initial encounters, and a more robust clinical track needed in social work education, particularly in diagnosing and treating mental health issues such as non-affective psychosis. Overall, these themes underscore the importance of experiential learning, specialized coursework, practical skill development, and continued research to adequately prepare social workers for working with individuals experiencing non-affective psychosis
Research work considering prisons as institutions for maintaining social order emphasises continuity and resistance to change. This article continues the approach, treating the take-up and regulation of HIV testing as a mechanism to maintain an internal social order in prisons. Prior to the AIDS epidemic, HIV testing was framed as health policing. However, the mismatch between this approach and the particular requirements for battling AIDS led public authorities to adopt a specific regulation for these instruments. In the context of a reform of health care in prisons, the systemic and coercive use of HIV tests was abandoned and they were incorporated into a policy framework of individual diagnosis and care. This clinical framing, however, hides practices that stress maintaining order and that are manifest in everyday practices of actors in the prison system. In this way security and clinical dimensions tend to overlap, and even become confused
