We show that even under incomplete markets, the equilibrium manifold identifies individual demands everywhere in their domains. For this, we assume conditions of smoothness, interiority and regularity, but avoid implausible observational requirements. It is crucial that there be date-zero consumption. As a by-product, we develop some duality theory under incomplete marketsIdentification, Incomplete Markets

This note shows that the testability result obtained by Brown and Matzkin (1996) for an exchange economy survives the introduction of standard, aggregate production, even without the observation of production levels

    The following is proven here: let W : X × C −→ R, where X is convex, be a continuous and bounded function such that for each y ∈ C, the function W (·, y) : X −→ R is concave (resp. strongly concave; resp. Lipschitzian with constant M; resp. monotone; resp. strictly monotone) and let Y ⊇ C. If C is compact, then there exists a continuous extension of W , U : X × Y −→ £ infX×C W, supX×C W ¤, such that for each y ∈ Y , the function U (·, y) : X −→ R is concave (resp. strongly concave; resp. Lipschitzian with constant My ; resp. monotone; resp. strictly monotone)

Individually-Rational Collective Choice under Random Preferences

In this paper I consider the following problem: there is a collection of exogenously given socially feasible sets, and for each one of them, each one of a group of individuals chooses from an individually feasible set. The fact that the product of the individually feasible sets is larger than the socially feasible set notwithstanding, there arises no conflict between individuals. Assuming that individual preferences are random, I here characterize collective choices in terms of the way in which individual preferences must co-vary in order to explain them. I do this by combining standard revealed preference theory and its counterpart under random preferences. I also argue that there exist collective choices that cannot be rationalized, and hence that the individual rationality assumption can be refuted

A Nonparametric Analysis of the Cournot Model

An observer makes a number of observations of an industry producing a homogeneous good. Each observation consists of the market price, the output of individual rms and perhaps information on each rm's production cost. We provide various tests (typically, linear programs) with which the observer can determine if the data set is consistent with the hypothesis that rms in this industry are playing a Cournot game at each observation. When cost information is wholly or partially unavailable, these tests could potentially be used to derive cost information on the rms. This paper is a contribution to the literature that aims to characterize (in various contexts) the restrictions that a data set must satisfy for it to be consistent with Nash outcomes in a game. It is also inspired by the seminal result of Afriat (and the subsequent literature) which addresses similar issues in the context of consumer demand, though one important technical di erence from most of these results is that the objective functions of rms in a Cournot game are not necessarily quasiconcave. dissertationMechanosensory hair cell damage leads to permanent hearing loss. The zebrafish mechanosensory organs (neuromasts) are an excellent model for the study of hair cell regeneration. Neuromasts have a central group of sensory hair cells surrounded by support cells and the outermost mantle cells. While adult mammalian hair cells cannot regenerate, neuromast hair cells have the ability to do so via support cell proliferation. In this study, we used proliferation assays and lineage analyses that demonstrated the existence of proliferative compartments in the posterior lateral line neuromasts where support cells either self-renew or differentiate. These spatially restricted lineage decisions within the progenitor pool resemble the spatial heterogeneities within the intestinal crypt or the hair follicle niche that guide stem cell transit amplification or differentiation. In addition, we identified the mantle cells as a quiescent support cell pool that do not proliferate in response to selective hair cell ablation, but that re-enter the cell cycle when hair cell and support cells numbers are drastically reduced. By combining our lineage analysis with gene expression analyses, genetic manipulations, and the use of chemical inhibitors, we were able to dissect the roles of Notch and Wnt signaling during homeostasis and regeneration. We demonstrate that Notch signaling restricts hair cell differentiation and maintains the spatial pattern of support cell proliferation through Wnt signaling inhibition. iv Thus, Notch-Wnt signaling interactions are required to maintain pools of amplifying support cells in the poles and maintain tissue homeostasis by balancing self-renewal and differentiation

This monograph explores the relationship between stereotypes and legitimization of projects and political actions, with bases on Muslims stereotype in Hollywood movies before and after 9/11. Analyzing several movie productions ('Syriana' by Stephen Gaghan, 'Body of Lies' by Ridley Scott. 'The Kingdom' by Peter Berg, 'The Hurt Locker' by Kathryn Bigelow and 'Iron Man' by Jon Favreau), we can identify the Muslim stereotypes, in order to put all of the elements in context with the processes and political actions by the USA in the Middle East. The monograph is build on the theory that the information can be seen as basis of the justification of U.S. actions in the Middle East

This article seeks to account for how a exercise of research which is developed under the search to generate a diagnosis on the category (citizens of knowledge) where the articulated proactive practices are conglomerated through a transdisciplinary education as a mobile notion where threads can be woven between two dissimilar worlds of logic, on the one hand we find reductive logic, that configure the simplicity of modern or postmodern (reductionist paradigm) science, and in the other had we found of complex sciences or (complex logic) as integration movil, that is to say that each of those conceptualization above is under the temporal prism of: Modern or postmodern science (under the reductionist nuclear episteme) configuration of theoretical resources in which the world subscribes to a determination of the hegemonic relationships of linear directionality. The concept of citizenship has been configured as a category of recognition that addresses a conceptual universe which over time has led to different changes at the contextual level. Despite these changes, its root is predetermined under a connotation of a deterministic order subscribed of the western paradigm in order that prevents a correct ramification of recognition and articulation on other possible genesis of transfiguration on this nominal category. In order to give not only a conceptual review of this category but also to weave new possibilities of understanding and reticular action on this category (planetary citizenships) in support of the (reforms of thought) macro-conceptual development of Edgar Morin and the study of the new sciences (life sciences) this research is carried out in order to promote new conceptual universes subscribed to complex societies that do not synthesize but expand new systemic configurations of multiplicity where recognition occurs in a modular order. In line with the thought of complexity and the constitution of new epistemes of a social scientific order (epistemologies of complexity and epistemologies of the south) where new horizons of understanding are revealed with the aim of addressing and applying the logic of the third included over the phenomes of research. Research that seeks not to give answers of certainty but to constitute new narrative spaces where common knowledge and scientific knowledge interact in an inter-retro-active order.
