The Natural History and Thermal Ecology of a Population of Spotted Turtles (Clemmys Guttata) and Wood Turtles (Glyptemys Insculpta) in West Virginia

An ecological study was conducted from 19 March 2001 to 2 April 2003 on a population of Spotted Turtles (Clemmys guttata) and Wood Turtles (Glyptemys insculpta) in West Virginia. Live-trapping, mark-recapture, radio telemetry and temperature data logging techniques were used to gather information on morphometrics, capture success, movements, home range, behavior, and thermal regime during activity and over-wintering seasons. Twenty-one Spotted Turtles were captured 260 times. Population structure was 42.9% juvenile, 38.1% male, and 19.0% female. Mean home range was 0.52 ha. Fifty Wood Turtles were captured 230 times. Juveniles were 36%, and males and females were 32% each. Mean Wood Turtle home range was 4.48 ha. Turtle and environmental temperatures were analyzed. Temperature data loggers revealed that Spotted and Wood Turtle hibernacula were stable throughout winter and stayed above freezing. Lowest temperatures experienced were 0.0°C by Spotted Turtles and -4.5°C by Wood Turtles. Injuries, abnormalities, and ectoparasites were noted

Aufbauend auf die Begriffsklärung im Bereich der internationalen Rechnungslegung und theoretische Auseinandersetzung mit der Relevanz von Bilanzinformationen im ersten Teil der Arbeit, wird im zweiten Teil auf die Bilanzdatenbanken Bezug genommen. Anhand eines entwickelten Kriterienrasters werden ausgewählte Datenbanken analysiert. Die Resultate sollen Unterschiede sowohl inhaltlicher als auch formaler Art aufzeigen und den Nutzer bei der Auswahl der Datenbank unterstützen

Discussion and Solution of the Trajectory Curve of Upward Ejection Seats Ejected from High Speed Aircraft

A comparatively simple and economical solution of the trajectory curve of an upward ejection seat ejected from high speed aircraft is developed. A sample calculation is made to demonstrate the applicability and accuracy of the method. Defining the forces which contribute to the motion of the seat during the trajectory was accomplished by the study of several Air Force and proprietary test reports. The forces are expressed and arranged in a manner in which they can be utilized in the proposed. solution of the trajectory. These forces are made com- patible with the trajectory formula.s through the medium of wind tunnel test results from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The step by step method of solution as presented, is quite flexible and is more accurate than other approximating methods. In vivo synthesis of monolysocardiolipin and cardiolipin by Acinetobacter baumannii phospholipase D and effect on cationic antimicrobial peptide resistance

Acinetobacter baumannii is an opportunistic pathogen, which has become a rising threat in healthcare facilities worldwide due to increasing antibiotic resistances and optimal adaptation to clinical environments and the human host. We reported in a former publication on the identification of three phopholipases of the phospholipase D (PLD) superfamily in A. baumannii ATCC 19606T acting in concerted manner as virulence factors in Galleria mellonella infection and lung epithelial cell invasion. This study focussed on the function of the three PLDs. A Δpld1-3 mutant was defect in biosynthesis of the phospholipids cardiolipin (CL) and monolysocardiolipin (MLCL), whereas the deletion of pld2 and pld3 abolished the production of MLCL. Complementation of the Δpld1-3 mutant with pld1 restored CL biosynthesis demonstrating that the PLD1 is implicated in CL biosynthesis. Complementation of the Δpld1-3 mutant with either pld2 or pld3 restored MLCL and CL production leading to the conclusion that PLD2 and PLD3 are implicated in CL and MLCL production. Mutant studies revealed that two catalytic motifs are essential for the PLD3-mediated biosynthesis of CL and MLCL. The Δpld1-3 mutant exhibited a decreased colistin and polymyxin B resistance indicating a role of CL in cationic antimicrobial peptides (CAMPs) resistance
