Dynamics of the middle atmosphere in winter (Dynamics). Interrelation between the different variations of turbulent diffusion and ionospheric absorption originating in the middle atmosphere

The turbulent diffusion coefficient was computed from the parameters of sporadic E layers using the wind shear theory of midlatitude sporadic E and models of the ionosphere as well as that of the neutral upper atmosphere. The turbulent diffusion coefficient obtained for the period of circulation disturbances associated with stratospheric warmings and for the intervals of the winter anomaly indicate changes similar to the ionospheric absorption of radio waves, in the former case decreased, in the latter case increased values. This may hit at the role of turbulent transport in the formation of these anomalies. On the basis of these findings, a seasonal variation of the turbulent diffusion coefficient having a minimum in summer and an increase of this parameter with increasing geomagnetic activity are anticipated

Trajectories of the S-matrix poles in Salamon-Vertse potential

The trajectories of S-matrix poles are calculated in the finite-range phenomenological potential introduced recently by P. Salamon and T. Vertse (SV). The trajectories of the resonance poles in this SV potential are compared to the corresponding trajectories in a cut-off Woods-Saxon (WS) potential for l>0. The dependence on the cut-off radius is demonstrated. The starting points of the trajectories turn out to be related to the average ranges of the two terms in the SV potential

Determination of structure tilting in magnetized plasmas - Time delay estimation in two dimensions

Time delay estimation (TDE) is a well-known technique to investigate poloidal flows in fusion plasmas. The present work is an extension of the earlier works of A. Bencze and S. Zoletnik 2005 and B. T\'al et al. 2011. From the prospective of the comparison of theory and experiment it seem to be important to estimate the statistical properties of the TDE based on solid mathematical groundings. This paper provides analytic derivation of the variance of the TDE using a two-dimensional model for coherent turbulent structures in the plasma edge and also gives an explicit method for determination of the tilt angle of structures. As a demonstration this method is then applied to the results of a quasi-2D Beam Emission Spectroscopy (BES) measurement performed at the TEXTOR tokamak.Comment: 8 pages, 10 figure

The Effect of Color on Consumer WTP for Farmed Salmon

Atlantic salmon is recognized for its pink-red color. The color is due to deposition of color pigments in the muscles. Wild salmon absorb the pink-red color pigment astaxanthin from the crustaceans they eat. To impart the pink-red color in farmed salmon, synthetically produced astaxanthin is added to their feed. The more astaxanthin, the redder the flesh becomes. In conventional salmon farming, the relatively expensive astaxanthin constitutes approximately 15% of the total feed costs. In this study, we use a stated choice experiment with pictures to investigate consumer willingness to pay (WTP) for salmon with different degrees of redness. The results show that consumer WTP increases with the redness of the salmon.
