    Literary Dwaya means two, Bala Dwaya means two types of Bala i.e. Bala and Atibala. Bala means strength promoting, hence it bestows strength and is a tonic in general as well as rejuvenator for all kinds of Vataja disorders. The Bala is Sida cordifolia Linn. and Atibala is Abutilon indicum Linn. both belongs to Malvaceae family. Both are having Madhura Rasa, Madhura Vipaka and Sheeta Virya. In Brimhaniya Mahakashaya of Charaka Samhita it is enumerated that Vatyayani as Bala and Bhadroudini is Atibala. There are two varieties of Atibala one is big and the other is small. The big one is named as Abutilon hirtum where as the second one is named as Abutilon indicum Linn. which is smaller variety. In the Atharva Parishishta the Bala flowers can be used as Pushpabhisheka. The present study of Bala and Atibala reveals the pharmacological actions, their controversies, therapeutic application, etc. according to different Ayurvedic lexicons

    Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif, dengan pendekatan kajian budaya yang bersifat kritis, interdisipliner, multidimensional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Perubahan fungsi dan makna ritual tolak bala ini bukan hanya menjadikan ritual ini yang sebelumnya bukan barang komoditi menjadi barang komoditi tetapi Perubahan fungsi dan makna ritual tolak bala berkaitan pula dengan proses produksi, distribusi dan konsumsi. Faktor penyebab Perubahan fungsi dan makna ritual tolak bala pada etnik Melayu Pantai Labu di di Desa Bagan Kecamatan Pantai Labu Kabupaten Deli Serdang Provinsi Sumatera Utara yaitu sifat masyarakat yang terbuka, dan kreativitas masyarakat, media massa, dan ekonomi.     We examine a model of social learning in networks following the lines of Bala and Goyal (1998, 2001). As a model of agents’ behaviour we have chosen the model of informational cascades of Bikhchandani et al (1992). Similarly to Bala and Goyal we find that the higher the ’degree of integration’ within the society is, the more likely it is that conformity of actions will arise. However, unlike their results our model suggests that in the presence of informational externalities globalisation of informational flows, expressed in the increasing density of communication channels in a network, may drive down the expected social welfare.microeconomics ;

    Ayurveda always provides the study of any concept from various dimensions. The physiological and anatomical entities explained in Ayurveda have many facets leading to deeper understanding of concepts. The entity of Bala according to Ayurveda is also multidimensional. Bala as described in Ayurveda is quite similar to concept of immunity. It can be correlated with the entities like Ojas, Vyadhi Kshamatava, Kapha Prakrita Karma. Bala plays a key role in diagnosis and treatment of diseases in Ayurveda. Its functioning depends on the equilibrium of various physiological characteristics like Agni, Aahara, Dosha, Prakriti, Sarata etc. Immunity is the main component in determining the prognosis, progression and waning of diseases. Thus, Bala and immunity are inter-related and go hand in hand. While looking into Ayurveda literature it is evident that the Bala entity is involved in Sadhya- Asadhyatwa, Arishta Lakshana, Nidan Panchaka Ghataka like Hetu, Poorvaroopa, Rupa, Samprapti etc. Thus, Bala Parikshana is pivotal in the diagnosis. Similarly, Bala also determines the treatment modality to be used in any kind of Vyadhi. It is also important in determining the line of treatment. Choice of treatment for that matter is largely dependent on Bala. Hence it can be concluded that the Bala entity is multifaceted and is definitely pivotal for the diagnosis and treatment in Ayurvedic point of view

    Tradisi tolak bala merupakan salah satu tradisi yang ada pada masyarakat Aceh. Tradisi tolak bala pada masyarakat di Kecamatan Blangpidie Kabupaten Aceh Barat Daya dimaksudkan untuk menghindari (menghilangkan) bala atau penyakit yang datang pada bulan tertentu yaitu di hari Rabu terakhir pada bulan Shafar atau biasa juga disebut dengan rabu abeh dalam masyarakat Aceh bagian Barat-Selatan. Tradisi tolak bala ini dilaksanakan atas dasar pandangan bahwa bulan Shafar adalah bulan panas dan banyak naasnya yang biasa membawa bahaya.Tradisi ini kerap dilakukan oleh masyarakat Aceh bagian Barat-Selatan khususnya masyarakat Aceh Barat Daya setiap satu tahun sekali. Namun dewasa ini telah banyak terjadi perubahan budaya pada masyarakat Aceh yang saat ini telah banyak melupakan nilai-nilai yang terkandung dalam adat istiadat Aceh. Dahulu masyarakat Kecamatan Blangpidie Kabupaten Aceh Barat Daya melakukan ritual tolak bala itu dengan berzikir serta menghanyutkan ayam putih di sungai ataupun di pantai, namun dalam beberapa tahun ini tolak bala dilakukan hanya dengan sekedar makan-makan dan mandi-mandi di tepi sungai ataupun di tepi pantai.Tujuan penelitin ini untuk mengetahui bagaimana pergeseran makna nilai sosial tradisi tolak bala dan apa penyebab pergeseran makna nilai sosial tardisi tolak baladi Kecamatan Blangpidie Kabupaten Aceh Barat Daya. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori Blumer tentang perspektif interaksionalisme simbolik. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, yaitu data diperoleh dari observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian meunjukkan bahwa adanya pergeseran makna nilai sosial tradisi tolak bala pada masyarakat di Kecamatan Blangpidie Kabupaten Aceh Barat Daya yang disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor seperti terjadinya modernisasi pada masyarakat , kurangnya partisipasi anak muda, dan banyak masuknya para pendatang di Kecamatan Blangpidie Kabupaten Aceh Barat Daya.Kata kunci : tolak bala , nilai sosial, masyarakat

    Bala is important medicinal plant of Ayurvedic system of medicine. Previous works have reported presence of ephedrine in Bala although it has not been reported in other varieties of Bala. Extracts of Sida cordifolia standardized to ephedrine are available in the Indian as well as international market. In western world ephedrine once upon a time was widely used for weight loss but recently it has been banned due to reported hepatotoxicity (injurious to the liver). Bala and its varieties including atibala (Sida rhombifolia L.) are exclusively used in Ayurvedic composite formulations. Owing to presence of ephedrine and norpesudoephedrine (PPA) in extracts of Bala the plant should be subjected to extensive pharmacological investigations (cardiovascular and CNS effects)
