A strategy based on the dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction of cadmium in environmental samples prior to ıts determination by flame atomic absorption spectrometry
This work has been supported by the Scientific Research Projects of Karadeniz Technical University (Project no: 1223), Turkey.A simple method was developed by combining dispersive liquid-liquid microexraction (DLLME) and flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). For the pre-concentration of trace amounts of cadmium, a new complexation chelate of 2-[(4-phenylpiperazine-5-Thioxo- 4,5-dihydro-1 ,3,4-oxadiazole-2- yl)methyl]-5-methyl-4-[2-(1H-indol e-3-yl)ethyl]-2,4-dihydro-3H-1, 2,4-Triazole-3-one (PPTOMDT) was used and mixed with the solvents of chloroform and methanol. The mixture of the extraction solutions was then directly injected into an aqueous solution containing Cd2+ ions. After centrifugation, the settled phase was diluted with 500 mu L of ethanol/nitric acid and aspirated into the FAAS. The limit of detection (LOD) was found at 0.69 mu g L-1 under optimum conditions. The relative standard deviation (RSD) for 15 replicates at a 3.75 mu g L-1 Cd2+ concentration level was 3.21%. The calibration plot was linear within the range of 2.5-15 mu g L-1 of Cd2+. After the analytical characteristics were determined, the CRM-TMDW-500 Drinking Water and CRM-SA-C Sandy Soil C, both certified reference materials, were analyzed in order to validate the method. The application of the DLLME method has been successfully tested for the determination of cadmium in solid and liquid samples. The recoveries of the spiked sample ranged between 92-96%
Primary gastrointestinal aspergillosis: A case report and literature review
Invasive aspergillosis is a severe infection that generally involves the lungs. Primary gastrointestinal aspergillosis is the least common form of invasive aspergillosis. A patient aged 65 years developed a febrile neutropenic episode following an autologous stem cell transplant for plasmacytoid variant diffuse large B-cell gastric non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He had abdominal pain on the second day of the febrile neutropenic episode and ileus occurred on the sixth day. His general condition deteriorated despite broad spectrum antibiotics and caspofungin treatment, and intestinal perforation occurred on the nineteenth day of the febrile neutropenic episode. Pathological examination of the resected jejunum and ileum revealed mould hyphae compatible with aspergillus. The patient died due to massive gastrointestinal bleeding on the fifth post-operative day. Although a rare condition, primary gastrointestinal aspergillosis should be kept in mind while treating neutropenic patients with gastrointestinal symptoms
(Trans)cribing History: The Oral Histories of Transgender Clergy in America
Popular American rhetoric around religion and LGBTQ issues puts the two at odds. The Bible has been the center of many debates over sexuality, gender identity, and faith. However, very few conversations have included or revolved around the authentic experiences of LGBTQ people of faith. Nine participants from various Protestant backgrounds shared their narratives with me and spoke on issues of gender and faith. This report is an in-depth summary of a short oral history project of transgender clergy (as well as candidates for ordination or exemplary church members)

The efficacy of ribavirin in Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever—randomized trials are urgently needed
WOS: 000348023600065PubMed ID: 25461235The only antiviral drug used today in Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is ribavirin; however, its efficacy is controversial due to the lack of randomized controlled trials. The studies examining the efficacy of ribavirin in CCHF have generally been retrospective studies including insufficient numbers of patients, resulting in low power. We think that ribavirin should not be used in CCHF until randomized controlled studies have been conducted, and that only supportive treatment should be used

EVALUATION OF IGNIMBRITE STONE IN NEVŞEHİR REGION FOR NATURAL CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL
Nevşehir situated in the Central Anatolian region is an important tourism center of our
country and world due to its unique geological structure. The subject of this study is the
evaluation of the usability of ignimbrites, the samples collected from different layers in
the province of Nevşehir, which are also widely used in the region as building stone in
many structures.
Primarily, core sampleswereobtained fromsample blocksof different locations, within the
scope of this study. Petrographic studies, geochemicalanalysis and determination of
physicomechanical propertieswere performed on samples. Usability as natural building
material was evaluated according to strength classification of various researchers.
The unit weight of the samples varies between 11.43 and 18.68 kNm-3, whereas the
water absorption ratio by weight ranges between 8.84 and 28.03%. Besides, the uniaxial
compressive strength of the samples changes between 5.91 and 78.65 MPa and falls
mainly within weak-very weak strength rock class. Ignimbrire samples should be
investigated in detail and application site/area should be chosen according to the aim
and quarry site based on the obtained data. Especially samples with high water
absorption potential shouldn’t be used in areas which have a direct contact with water.
People should be encouraged to use it for decorative purposes such as; fireplace, stairs,
floors, railings, arches and columns
Spinal brucellosis diagnosed with positron emission tomography combined with computed tomography (PET/CT)
WOS: 000378201100011PubMed ID: 26826344A 48-year-old female patient was referred to our clinic forsudden-onset right-sided waist pain that radiated down bothlegs. The pain, which was also present along her waist cur-vature, inhibited her ability to walk, sit, or stand. Associatedsymptoms were fever, night chills, and a complaint of 5-kgweight loss within the last month. The patient reported a pre-vious surgical history of vertebral instrumentation(intramedullary stud) that was inserted after a traffic acci-dent approximately 20 years ago. Further interrogation revealeda history of consumption of non-pasteurized dairy products
Rifampicin-induced fever in a patient with brucellosis: A case report
We present a 35-year-old female patient who was started on rifampicin (900 mg orally once daily) and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (TMP/SMX) (160/800 mg orally twice daily) after being diagnosed with brucellosis. Following defervescence and improvement in her general condition, fever recurred on the 12th day of treatment. A re-challenge drug test lead to causality assessment and treatment was switched to a combination of streptomycin (1 g intramuscularly) for 10 days and TMP/SMX (160/800 mg orally twice daily) for 4 weeks. Our patient is doing well after 12 months of follow-up
