Parlangèli e il progetto di un vocabolario storico dei dialetti baresi

    Get PDF
In the late Seventies Oronzo Parlangeli and his co-workers tried to develop the project of an historical-etymological dictionary of all the dialects in the Terra di Bari. It has been unfolded by the consultation of local vocabularies and plenty of published or archived materials. Even tough that attempt unfortunately failed, it still presents some point of interest; this work traces the story and the structure of that effort

Solar cooling systems utilizing concentrating solar collectors - An overview

    Get PDF
Abstract The objective of this review article is to draw a picture about a promising solar cooling concept, based on the use of concentrating solar collectors, and to define the aspects that need to be considered in future developments. The following topics are covered: an overview of solar cooling systems utilizing concentrating solar collectors worldwide; the reasons behind the selection of these solar collection technologies for solar cooling applications; a quick assessment of the main performance figures for the different solar cooling schemes based on Monte Carlo simulations; the technical requirements of the technologies for future developments. Air-conditioning and refrigeration facilities driven by concentrating solar collectors are still infrequent and the outcomes of this review clearly present the small but steadily growing market of solar cooling systems coupled with concentrating solar collection technologies

EnDuring the lockdown, Sergio Lubello moved to his hometown, Presicce, in the province of Lecce. Between remote lectures and scientific activities slowed down by the pandemic, he spent some time each day narrating the pandemic - initially on his Facebook page, through a series of posts in which he continually oscillated between reflections on what is happening around him and personal memory. The collection of posts has become a book in the form of a diary, on whose content the author talks with Marcello Aprile. Intelligent support for knowledge sharing in virtual communities

Virtual communities where people with common interests and goals communicate, share resources, and construct knowledge, are currently one of the fastest growing web environments. A common misconception is to believe that a virtual community will be effective when people and technology are present. Appropriate support for the effective functioning of online communities is paramount. In this line, personalisation and adaptation can play a crucial role, as illustrated by recent user modelling approaches that support social web-groups. However, personalisation research has mainly focused on adapting to the needs of individual members, as opposed to supporting communities to function as a whole. In this research, we argue that effective support tailored to virtual communities requires considering the wholeness of the community and facilitating the processes that influence the success of knowledge sharing and collaboration. We are focusing on closely knit communities that operate in the boundaries of organisations or in the educational sector. Following research in organisational psychology, we have identified several processes important for effective team functioning which can be applied to virtual communities and can be examined or facilitated by analysing community log data. Based on the above processes we defined a computational framework that consists of two major parts. The first deals with the extraction of a community model that represents the whole community and the second deals with the application of the model in order to identify what adaptive support is needed and when. The validation of this framework has been done using real virtual community data and the advantages of the adaptive support have been examined based on the changes happened after the interventions in the community combined with user feedback. With this thesis we contribute to the user modelling and adaptive systems research communities with: (a) a novel framework for holistic adaptive support in virtual communities, (b) a mechanism for extracting and maintaining a semantic community model based on the processes identified, and (c) deployment of the community model to identify problems and provide holistic support to a virtual community. We also contribute to the CSCW community with a novel approach in providing semantically enriched community awareness and to the area of social networks with a semantically enriched approach for modeling change patterns in a closely-knit VC.EThOS - Electronic Theses Online ServiceGBUnited Kingdo

District Power-To-Heat/Cool Complemented by Sewage Heat Recovery

    Get PDF
District heating and cooling (DHC), when combined with waste or renewable energy sources, is an environmentally sound alternative to individual heating and cooling systems in buildings. In this work, the theoretical energy and economic performances of a DHC network complemented by compression heat pump and sewage heat exchanger are assessed through dynamic, year-round energy simulations. The proposed system comprises also a water storage and a PV plant. The study stems from the operational experience on a DHC network in Budapest, in which a new sewage heat recovery system is in place and provided the experimental base for assessing main operational parameters of the sewage heat exchanger, like effectiveness, parasitic energy consumption and impact of cleaning. The energy and economic potential is explored for a commercial district in Italy. It is found that the overall seasonal COP and EER are 3.10 and 3.64, while the seasonal COP and EER of the heat pump alone achieve 3.74 and 4.03, respectively. The economic feasibility is investigated by means of the levelized cost of heating and cooling (LCOHC). With an overall LCOHC between 79.1 and 89.9 €/MWh, the proposed system can be an attractive solution with respect to individual heat pumps. This research was funded by the European Commission, H2020-project Heat4Cool, grant number 723925. The work has also been supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) under Contract No. 16.0082
