The homotopy type of the space of symplectic balls in rational ruled 4-manifolds
Let M:=(M^{4},\om) be a 4-dimensional rational ruled symplectic manifold and
denote by w_{M} its Gromov width. Let Emb_{\omega}(B^{4}(c),M) be the space of
symplectic embeddings of the standard ball B^4(c) \subset \R^4 of radius r and
of capacity c:= \pi r^2 into (M,\om). By the work of Lalonde and Pinsonnault,
we know that there exists a critical capacity \ccrit \in (0,w_{M}] such that,
for all c\in(0,\ccrit), the embedding space Emb_{\omega}(B^{4}(c),M) is
homotopy equivalent to the space of symplectic frames \SFr(M). We also know
that the homotopy type of Emb_{\omega}(B^{4}(c),M) changes when c reaches
\ccrit and that it remains constant for all c \in [\ccrit,w_{M}). In this
paper, we compute the rational homotopy type, the minimal model, and the
cohomology with rational coefficients of \Emb_{\omega}(B^{4}(c),M) in the
remaining case c \in [\ccrit,w_{M}). In particular, we show that it does not
have the homotopy type of a finite CW-complex.Comment: 38 pages; revised versio

Loops in the fundamental group of \mathrm{Symp} (\mathbb C\mathbb P^2\#\,5\overline{ \mathbb C\mathbb P}\,\!^2) which are not represented by circle actions
We study the generators of the fundamental group of the group of
symplectomorphisms \mathrm{Symp} (\mathbb C\mathbb P^2\#\,5\overline{ \mathbb
C\mathbb P}\,\!^2, \omega) for some particular symplectic forms. The monotone
case was studied by P. Seidel and J. Evans: they proved that this group is
homotopy equivalent to the group of orientation-preserving diffeomorphisms of
preserving 5 points. Recently J. Li, T. J. Li and W. Wu completely
determined the Torelli symplectic mapping class group as well as the rank of
the fundamental group of the group \mathrm{Symp}_{h}(\mathbb C\mathbb
P^2\#\,5\overline{\mathbb C\mathbb P}\,\!^2) of symplectomorphisms that act
trivially on homology, for any given symplectic form. In general, we expect the
generators of the fundamental group to be given by circle actions on the
manifold. However, we show that in some particular cases, there are loops in
the fundamental group which cannot be realized by circle actions. This is a new
phenomenon since in \pi_1 (\mathrm{Symp}_h(\mathbb C\mathbb
P^2\#\,k\overline{\mathbb C\mathbb P}\,\!^2)), with , all the
generators can be represented by circle actions on the manifold. Our work
depends on Delzant classification of toric symplectic manifolds, Karshon's
classification of Hamiltonian circle actions and the computation of Seidel
elements of some circle actions.Comment: 27 figure
ABSTRACT: The incidence of several perinatal complications, including structural and
functional malformations, is increased in monozygotic twins. Thus the accurate
prenatal determination of the zygosity is of extreme importance for the clinical
follow up during pregnancy.
The development of multiplex PCR and automated fragment analysis lead to
revolutionary changes in molecular studies of biological prenatal samples and
also allowed the genetic determination of zygosity in pairs of twins.
The monozygosity is established when a pair of twins is concordant in all the
studied alleles. However, we cannot discard the probabilistic basis of this
determination, therefore, a pair of twins can be concordant in all studied alleles
and be dizygotic.
The main purpose of this work is the implementation of biostatistic methods to
calculate the average probability of monozygosity when a pair of twins share
the same genotype across all loci.
The study was performed on a group of 9 pairs of twin fetus considered as
“apparently” monozygotic after zygosity determination, starting with a subset of
8 polymorphic markers.
Using some tools of program ECLIPSE2 it was possible to make an statistic
analysis within a set of microsatellites widely used for the determination of the
zygosity and increase the results accuracy, endowing them with a
monozygosity probability in a confidence interval with different error rates
tumor.
tumores. Background: The goal of radiotherapy treatments is to irradiate the target
volume minimizing the dose received by the adjacent organs at risk (OAR’s).
Correct beam collimation to the target volume using the multi-leaf collimator (MLC)
reduces the dose in OAR’s below the tolerance values imposed by tissue
radiobiology. The MLC consists of several independently moving leaf pairs that
block the incident radiation beam. Different MLCs, with distinct characteristics,
allow the execution of treatment plans and administration of different doses.
Purpose: Comparison of the characteristics of two multi-leaf collimators and
evaluation of the dosimetric advantages of their use in the planning of
radiosurgery treatments, according to the pathology, shape and volume of the
tumour. Methods: Thirty cases of radiosurgery whose planning was performed
with MLC Agility™ in the Monaco® planning system (TPS), using the Monte Carlo
algorithm for the calculation of planimetry using the technique Volumetric
Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), were studied. Plans will be reoptimized,
maintaining field configuration, and the same objectives and optimization
functions, but with MLC Apex™. Results: The clinical cases were treated with a
prescription dose of 12 to 20 Gy in a single fraction and 80% (n=24) of the lesions
included in the initial review were irregular, with gross tumour volume ranging from
0.06 to 15.21 cm3
(median: 2.68 cm3
). For the 30 VMAT SRS plans, both
collimators showed comparable results in terms of clinical acceptable PTV
coverage objective for SRS treatment (p= 0.84, n=60). There was no significant
difference in the quality metrics except in the gradient index, where a statistically
significant improvement is observed with the micro-MLC ApexTM, showing some
clinical advantage in neurinomas and some meningiomas. Conclusion: The
treatment of the SRS with the micro-MLC Apex™ shows results very similar to the
MLC Agility™, in terms of PTV coverage, plan quality metrics and dose limits the
sparing of adjacent organs. There were no statistically significant differences in
the quality metrics, except in the gradient index, in which an improvement is
observed with the micro-MLC Apex™, which allows us to conclude that it will have
a more significant clinical advantage in neurinomas due to the smaller size of
these tumors.Mestrado em Tecnologias da Imagem Médic
