Growth Performance Characteristics of Okra (Hibiscus esculentus) using Improvised Drip Irrigation System
Okra is a common and popular vegetable crop used in Nigeria. Irrigation method has very significant influence on okra (Hibiscus esculentus) production. A careful effect of marginal water quality on IDI and control system which were subjected to the same conditions was investigated. An experimental field area of 13.5 m2 by 6.0 m2 was properly cleared, stumped, ploughed, harrowed and leveled. High yielding and disease resistant okra variety seeds were carefully selected and planted at a regular interval of 0.6 m. The results of statistical analysis obtained using Completely Randomized Blocked Design (CRBD) (PË‚0.05) revealed that there were significant differences on water application which reflected an increase in some agronomic parameters such as growth, weight, yield and vegetative development of the okra. These selected okra agronomic parameters showed that the okra performed in IDI. Maximum fruit yield of 71.71% and water utilization efficiency of 55.49% was obtained by using IDI system
Antenatal Patients Level of Satisfaction Toward Service Rendered by Health Workers in Selected Primary Health Centers of Ejigbo Local Government, Osun, State Nigeria.
Introduction: Patients’ satisfaction is related to the extent to which general health care needs and condition-specific needs are met. Multistage sampling technique was employed in the selection of the health centers while simple random technique was used to select the respondents at each clinic until the calculated sample size was reached self-designed instrument consisting of open and closed ended questionnaire was used. The reliability of the instrument was 0.88 using Spearman Brown coefficient. Results In term of satisfactory level 60.3% related that all the categories of staffers in the various health centers greet them warmly and with dignity, more than half (59.0%) also reported that health workers introduced themselves before attending to them, thereby establishing good rapport. Privacy and confidentiality were reported by 77.4 % of respondents not to be adequate while 48% of respondents felt the waiting time in the facility was long and there was equally a relationship between the level of satisfaction and the interpersonal relationship of health workers. Majority of the respondents (74%) were satisfied with ANC services rendered. There was a relationship between the level of satisfaction and the cleanliness of the facility. Artisans’ knowledge and perception on hand-dug well waterborne related diseases in Dutse mechanic village north-west, Nigeria
This study was conducted to assess the knowledge and perception of artisans in Dutse mechanic village regarding hand-dug well waterborne related diseases with the aid of questionnaire. Data were collected from seventy (70) respondents on selected personal attributes and analyzed using descriptive statistics. All the respondents indicated that there are two (2) wells in the mechanic village. The study revealed that a high proportion (80%) of the respondents actively repair automobiles while 4.3% take part in various trading activities. Majority (70%) of the respondents indicated that microbial pollutants can cause waterborne diseases while minority (30%) of the respondent reported a contrary view. Respondents (7.1%) reported to have been diagnosed of waterborne diseases while majority (92.9%) of the respondents reported that they have not been diagnosed of any water borne disease. However, respondents diagnosed of waterborne diseases specified diarrhoea (1.4%), typhoid (1.4%) and urinary tract infection (4.3%). It can be concluded that the artisans are lackadaisical towards ensuring hygienic maintenance of the wells as clearly revealed in the results obtained in this study. It is recommended that the wells in the village should be covered when not in use coupled with drawing water with a well-kept fetcher devoid of microbial loads. Keywords: Hand-dug well, microbial pollutants, waterborne diseases, mechanic villag
Marketing, distribution and consumption of fish in Ido Local Government Area, Oyo State, Nigeria
Like other developing countries, Nigeria faces a lot of problems confronting fish marketing such as dwindling profit due to fish spoilage as post-harvest losses occur more frequently particularly in the rainy reason, lack of improved technology for the management of fish production, inefficient harvesting methods and wastefulness due to lack of infrastructural facilities. This study assessed fish marketing, distribution and consumption in Ido Local Government Area (LGA), Oyo State, Nigeria. A two-stage random sampling technique was usedwhile descriptive statistics (frequency distribution and percentage frequencies) and inferential statistics (such as multiple regression analysis and budgetary analysis) were used for the analysis. The study concluded that fish marketing was a profitable business though with a small profit margin. The study thus recommended that micro lending programmes should be given a needful attention and priority to increase the entrepreneurs’ income and bring about a massive economic prospect for Ido LGA in particular and Oyo State Nigeria in general.
