Multi-tiling sets, Riesz bases, and sampling near the critical density in LCA groups

We prove the existence of sampling sets and interpolation sets near the critical density, in Paley Wiener spaces of a locally compact abelian (LCA) group G . This solves a problem left by Gr\"ochenig, Kutyniok, and Seip in the article: `Landau's density conditions for LCA groups ' (J. of Funct. Anal. 255 (2008) 1831-1850). To achieve this result, we prove the existence of universal Riesz bases of characters for L2(Omega), provided that the relatively compact subset Omega of the dual group of G satisfies a multi-tiling condition. This last result generalizes Fuglede's theorem, and extends to LCA groups setting recent constructions of Riesz bases of exponentials in bounded sets of Rd.Comment: 21 pages, 1 figur

Who is mentally ill? Psychiatry and the Individual in the Interwar Period in Germany

Sixteen nations were involved in the First World War with over 65 million soldiers in active service and nearly one million soldiers suffered, according to medical documentation, from psychic consequences of war. The authors are historians who analyzed historical sources and present psychic consequences of the First World War from two aspects: on the one hand, from the viewpoint of German psychiatry, which denied the vulnerability of the human psyche; on the other hand, from the viewpoint of an individual (Hungarian politician, Loránt Hegedüs), who was an inpatient of an elegant Berlin sanatorium between 1921 and 1924 and argued critically against war. The question posed by the title, Who is mentally ill? will be examined. Norms can also be insane if they do not serve man but instead they are inhuman. How do people react to these expectations? The normative order of the state and of psychiatry expected soldiers to die a heroic death for the nation and stigmatized “weaklings” as “abnormal”. Hegedüs, the Hungarian minister of finance was faced with the issue of normality as he failed with his financial program in 1921, in other words he “collapsed” under the weight of responsibility for the nation. Researching these social phenomenon adds to our understanding in the history of Central European societies

Soldiers Fear during World War I – Continuity of an Emotion Culture

The sources and manifestations of human fear are so manifold that they cannot be fully explored in a short text. The aim of this article is rather to give a picture about how soldier’s fear was judged during the First World War. Furthermore, I will also discuss the history of the attitude toward soldier’s fear. Understanding the relevant aspects of its discourse could help us to understand why guns were blessed by the churches and why soldiers were expected to sacrifice their lives without fear. In addition, this short article aims to show that researching the history of collective emotion provides not only insights into the hidden mental structures of a society, but it sheds light on human motivations and on the “rationality” of emotions as well. Although emotions can be considered as anthropological constants, their naming and expression are always shaped by the written and unwritten rules of communities. Culture and language provide a frame in which the basic emotions vary and differentiate from each other. Every culture has its own set of emotions, and they play an important role in communication processes and in the maintenance of norms. In every society, there are emotions that receive positive social recognition, but there are also some with negative connotations or taboos. Soldiers fear is also one of the collective feelings that has long been denied and tabooed. But is it even possible to ignore or even forbid a feeling? History shows the consequences that the suppression of fear has had

Asymmetric Synthesis of Substituted Pyrrolidines via Kinetic Resolutions

    Get PDF
The pyrrolidine ring is present in a large number of alkaloid natural products and in many pharmaceutical drugs. Building on the asymmetric ‘Clip-Cycle’ synthesis of spiropyrrolidines, this thesis details our study into the kinetic resolution of racemic ‘Clip-Cycle’ substrates to give enantioenriched chiral pyrrolidines. Scheme 1: 'Clip-Cycle' asymmetric reaction ‘Clip-Cycle’ involves an unsaturated Cbz-protected ‘allyl’ amine being ‘clipped’ with an activating unsaturated thioester group by an alkene metathesis reaction, followed by a chiral phosphoric acid (CPA) catalyzed aza-Michael ‘cycle’ reaction. Racemic 2-, and 3-substituted cyclisation precursors were cyclized using (R)-TRIP and the conversion monitored until 50% of the substrate had been consumed. Analysis of the reaction mixture by chiral HPLC indicated that kinetic resolution had occurred in all cases studies with up to 90% ee and s=122. Scheme 2: Asymmetric kinetic resolution reactio

Limitaciones de los niños con sordera en el ámbito académico.

    Get PDF
Hearing loss or deafness is a deficiency due to the loss or alteration of the anatomical and / or physiological function of the auditory system that causes a disability to hear (CIDDM, 1980). The purpose of this word is to understand the academic and social difficulties of children with hearing disabilities and know the efficiency of speech- speaking intervention in reducing these difficulties. A bibliographic search was conducted using the following terms, deafness, diffilculties, speech therapy, special education, through various search engines and databases, such as Punto Q, Dialntet, and the FIAPAS platform. In principle, a large number of articles were obtained, wich, after applying the inclusion and exclusion 3 criteria, were finally left at 15. Regarding the academic field, the results reveal that, in general, the students who benefit the most from inclusion in an ordinary school are those with the best results in their auditory functionality and effectiveness in oral communication. More and more children can be enrolled in the ordinary center with a performance very close to that of their fellow listeners. In conclusion, schooling in specific centers favors understanding, learning, communication at levels of greater intimacy and satisfaction, the exchange of problems and conflict resolution. Affectively it is usually more satisfactory for the subject, but it prepares him worse for his later social integration
