Parameters for Twisted Representations
The study of Hermitian forms on a real reductive group gives rise, in the
unequal rank case, to a new class of Kazhdan-Lusztig-Vogan polynomials. These
are associated with an outer automorphism of , and are related to
representations of the extended group . These polynomials were
defined geometrically by Lusztig and Vogan in "Quasisplit Hecke Algebras and
Symmetric Spaces", Duke Math. J. 163 (2014), 983--1034. In order to use their
results to compute the polynomials, one needs to describe explicitly the
extension of representations to the extended group. This paper analyzes these
extensions, and thereby gives a complete algorithm for computing the
polynomials. This algorithm is being implemented in the Atlas of Lie Groups and
Representations software
Relationship maintenance behavior and adult attachment: an analysis of the actor-partner interdependence model
Associations between relationships maintenance behaviors (positivity, openness, assurances, and sharing tasks) and anxious and avoidant attachment were examined in 265 married couples. Using structural equation modeling to employ the actor-partner interdependence model, the use of positivity, assurances and sharing tasks were found to be negatively associated with anxious and avoidant attachment for both husbands and wives. Being open and self-disclosing in marriage was not strongly associated with attachment. Results indicated that the use of maintenance behaviors in marriages could have the potential to foster increased security in partners. Research and clinical implications are discussed
Accelerated Overlap Fermions
Numerical evaluation of the overlap Dirac operator is difficult since it
contains the sign function of the Hermitian Wilson-Dirac
operator with a negative mass term. The problems are due to having
very small eigenvalues on the equilibrium background configurations generated
in current day Monte Carlo simulations. Since these are a consequence of the
lattice discretisation and do not occur in the continuum version of the
operator, we investigate in this paper to what extent the numerical evaluation
of the overlap can be accelerated by making the Wilson-Dirac operator more
continuum-like. Specifically, we study the effect of including the clover term
in the Wilson-Dirac operator and smearing the link variables in the irrelevant
terms. In doing so, we have obtained a factor of two speedup by moving from the
Wilson action to a FLIC (Fat Link Irrelevant Clover) action as the overlap

Critical parameters for efficient sonication and improved chromatin immunoprecipitation of high molecular weight proteins
Solubilization of cross-linked cells followed by chromatin shearing is essential for successful chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP). However, this task, typically accomplished by ultrasound treatment, may often become a pitfall of the process, due to inconsistent results obtained between different experiments under seemingly identical conditions. To address this issue we systematically studied ultrasound-mediated cell lysis and chromatin shearing, identified critical parameters of the process and formulated a generic strategy for rational optimization of ultrasound treatment. We also demonstrated that whereas ultrasound treatment required to shear chromatin to within a range of 100–400 bp typically degrades large proteins, a combination of brief sonication and benzonase digestion allows for the generation of similarly sized chromatin fragments while preserving the integrity of associated proteins. This approach should drastically improve ChIP efficiency for this class of proteins
High torque bellows seal rotary drive
Bellows seal rotary drive device was developed which allows high torque transmission through sealed compartments. Bearing friction which would normally be carried by sealing bellows in comparable devices is absorbed by universal-gimbal joint. It can be used to transmit high torque, low speed, rotary motion through sealed barriers to prevent contamination or escape of fluids

Production mechanisms and single-spin asymmetry for kaons in high energy hadron-hadron collisions
Direct consequences on kaon production of the picture proposed in a recent
Letter and subsequent publications are discussed. Further evidence supporting
the proposed picture is obtained. Comparison with the data for the inclusive
cross sections in unpolarized reactions is made. Quantitative results for the

Experimental data on the single spin asymmetry and their interpretations by the chromo-magnetic string model
An attempt is made to interpret the various existing experimental data on the
single spin asymmetries in inclusive pion production by the polarized proton
and antiproton beams. As the basis of analysis the chromo-magnetic string model
is used. A whole measured kinematic region is covered. The successes and fails
of such approach are outlined. The possible improvements of model are

Sensitivity of a proposed space-based Cerenkov astrophysical-neutrino telescope (CHANT)
Neutrinos with energies in the PeV to EeV range produce upgoing extensive air
showers when they interact underground close enough to the surface of the
Earth. We study the possibility for detection of such showers with a system of
very wide field-of-view imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes, named CHANT
for CHerenkov from Astrophysical Neutrinos Telescope, pointing down to a strip
below the Earth's horizon from space. We find that CHANT provides sufficient
sensitivity for the study of the astrophysical neutrino flux in a wide energy
range, from 10 PeV to 10 EeV. A space-based CHANT system can discover and study
in detail the cosmogenic neutrino flux originating from interactions of
ultra-high-energy cosmic rays in the intergalactic medium.Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures, accepted to Phys. Rev.
