Hostile gatekeeping: The strategy of engaging with journalists in extremism reporting

This article broadly examines the relationship between strategic communications and journalism with specific reference to the issue of violent extremism. Using a case study of reporting on the Boko Haram conflict in Nigeria, it analyses the nature and consequences of engagement among the various communicators involved. The primary data were drawn from focus groups and individual interviews with thirty-two journalists and strategic communicators, and from analysis of Boko Haram videos and Nigerian security forces’ press releases. The findings suggest that journalists have a tense but interdependent relationship with strategic communicators that is characterised by conflict and cooperation, harassment and intimidation. Strategic communicators’ control of the conflict theatre and use of the Internet to reach audiences directly give them leverage in the relationship. They, however, rely on journalists to help enhance the reach and credibility of their narratives, while journalists depend significantly on their media releases

Dalam konteks, otonomi pendidikan ya n g menerapkan Manajemen Berbasis Sekolah (MBS), sekolah dituntut untuk dapat menggali sumber dana dari berbagai sumber yang dapat diakses sekolah dan selanjutnya digunakan untuk pembiayaan program di sekolah Kenyataan sekolah masih mengandalkan dana yang bersumber dari pemerintah Meski kalau di telisik lebih lanjut selama itu sumber dana sebagian besar berasal dari masyarakat atau orang tua murid. Berapa pun dana publik yang diterima sekolah, maka sekolah harus akuntabel dan dana yang diserap pada akhirnya mendukung peningkatkan kinerja sekolah

Model Prosedur Sertifikasi Guru

Program sertifikasi profesi bagi guru berimplikasi pada berbagai aspek. Dari 2,7 guru di negara kita baru 900 ribu yang memenuhi kualifikasi dan sisanya 1,8 juta masih belum berkualifikasi. 900 ribu guru yang sudah berkualifikasi (S 1/D4) belum memiliki sertifikasi profesi. Bagaimana model prosedur sertifikasi profesi. Depdiknas melalui Diijen Profesi memberikan informasi tentang mekanisme penyelenggaran, rekruitmen dan pendaftaran, kuota, pembiayaan, dan LPTK penyelenggara. Untuk tahun anggaran 2007, rencananya ada 190.450 guru yang akan mengikuti program sertifikasi profesi. Analisis Karakter dan Kearifan Lokal dalam Pembelajaran Sosiologi di Kota Banda Aceh

This study aims to discuss the problems in the integration of character and wisdom in sociology learning. The study was conducted in the city of Banda Aceh. The results show that many teachers do not understand and have not mastered the way to make a lesson plan that is loaded with local values​​. Learning is not yet based upon lokal wisdom, even some teachers argued that the material of lokal values ​​is not necessary for various reasons. Teacher empowerment is still minimum. Therefore, the mandate of Qanun ( regulation ) No. 5 of 2000 , Qanun No. 6 in 2000 and UUPA No. 11 2006 on Regional Government of Aceh for adoption of lokal wisdom has not been achieved. © 2013 Universitas Negeri Semaran

Analisis Biaya Investasi Pendidikan Dan Personal Siswa Di Kota Bandung

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: (1) kondisi sarana dan prasarana pendidikan menurut jenis dan jenjang pendidikan di Kota Bandung; (2) besaran biaya investasi berdasarkan jenis dan jenjang pendidikan di Kota Bandung; (3) besaran biaya personal siswa dalam mengikuti pendidikan menurut jenis dan jenjang pendidikan di Kota Bandung. Penelitian survei ini melibatkan berbagai jenis dan jenjang pendidikan di Kota Bandung. Sampel penelitian meliputi 12 sekolah. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara wawancara. Analisis data menggunakan program excel untuk menemukan biaya satuan berdasarkan hasil perhitungan yang dikalikan dengan IKK Kota Bandung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa orang tua menanggung lebih dari 50% biaya pendidikan. Biaya yang dikeluarkan orang tua sebesar 70,87 % untuk SD, 59,24% untuk SMP, 66,77% untuk SMA dan 58,22% SMK Nonteknik serta 56,30% untuk SMK Teknik. Oleh karena itu, beban orang tua dalam membiayai anaknya lebih besar dan menentukan keberhasilan penyelesaian pendidikan anaknya

Phytochemical screening and antiproliferative effects of methanol extract of stem bark of Diospyros mespiliformis Hochst (Ebenaceae) against guinea corn (Sorghum bicolor) seeds radicles length

The plant Diospyros mespiliformis Hochst (Ebenaceae) is commonly known as Kanya in Northern Nigeria which has been used widely in treating various ailments such as fever, whooping cough, wounds. Malaria, Pneumonia, Syphilis, Leprosy, Dermatomycoses, Diarrhea without scientific validation. Preliminary Phytochemical screening. Thin layer chromatographic profile (TLC) of methanol crude extract and antiproliferative studies were carried out in this research. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of carbohydrate, glycoside, anthraquinone, steroid, triterpenes, saponin, tannins, flavonoids and alkaloid. TLC profile of the crude extract gave four sports with good Rf values. Antiproliferative evaluation were carried out using Guinea corn (Sorghum bicolour) seeds spread in a 9 cm wide petridish laid with cotton wool and Whatman filter paper which was treated with 1-30 mg/ml of methanol extract in 24-96 hr period of incubation. At 24 hrs of incubation, the methanol extracts had 24.771 ± 0.526 mm length of growth for the controls whereas the seeds treated with 10, 20, and 30 mg/ml of the extract produced a length total of 2.772 ± 0.494 mm, 2.150 ± 0.490 mm and 2.257 ± 0.489 mm respectively, while at the end of 96 hours of incubation period, the radicles length of the control seeds measured 93.77 ± 9.730 mm while those treated with 10, 20, and 30 mg/ml were observed to be 37 ± 3.297 mm, 17.023 ± 2.802 mm and 16.086 ± 1.976 mm. This reduction in the growth implied 60.54, 81.87 and 82.83% respectively compared to the controls. This study has scientifically justified the traditional uses of Diospyros mespiliformis stem bark extracts asantiproliferative agent against radicles of a Guinea corn (Sorghum bicolour) which may relate to its use as anticancer agent.Keywords: Antiproliferative effects, Diospyros mespiliformis, Phytochemica

Democracy is the only political choice for Indonesian people. Hence, the democracy values fully objective and there is nothing that opposites to the religion norm. In the application they must feed each other, especially that the religion can give ethic power, moral, and spiritual for the development of democratization and the existence of national state is not being a problem.Hence, nationalism as a life principle that is centrally clear can not be accepted, but it is not a problem that a moslem being nationalist. Studi Kasus : Pelunakkan Air Menggunakan Penukar Kation Amberlite Ir – 120

Air adalah senyawa anorganik dengan rumus kimia H2O. Air mempunyai bentuk yang berbeda – beda yaitu gas, padat dan cair. Ketiganya dipengaruhi oleh suhu dan tekanan udara. Kesadahan air diakibatkan oleh hadirnya ion calsium dan magnesium. Penetapan kesadahan hanya diharapkan pada penetapan kadar Ca dan Mg dalam air. Dalam proses penetapan kesadahan digunakan resin penukar kation sebagai pengikat Ca2+ dan Mg2+.Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Penukar Ion dengan resin yang digunakan adalah jenis Polystirene Divinyl Benzene (SDVB) yaitu Amberlite IR – 120. Proses ini menggunakan cara kromatografi kolom sederhana. Dari hasil penelitian ternyata Amberlite mempunyai kemampuan yang cukup tinggi untuk melunakkan air sampai 80%
