    Invasive Pulmonary Aspergillosis in a Patient with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

    Fungal infections are common and life-threatening among immunosupressive patients.Invasive pulmonar aspergilloz (IPA) generally occurs when Aspergillus inhaled, but rarelywith the hematogen spread of dermal or gastrointestinal Aspergillus. We present here, IPA ina 58 year-old male patient with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). He was admitted to ourclinic with fatigue, weakness, pansitopenia, and with petechia. Supportive treatment,vincristine and prednisone was initiated. Chest roentgenogram was normal. Dyspnea andfever (39.5’C) were seen after 1 month of therapy. Thorax high resolution computerizedtomography was obtained and cavitary lesion was seen in the left upper-anterior segment oflung. Sputum and blood culture were negative. In spite of the empiric use of Meropenem 3gr/d, Vancomycin 2 gr/d and fluconazole 200 mg/d, fever was not turned to normal andclinical symptoms were not healed. On the fifth days of therapy amphotericin-B was initiatedand the other antibiotics were stopped after 3 days. General symptoms were healed on the 8thdays. Radiologic findings were improved partially after 20 days. The patient clinically is welland remains in remission and radiologic findings were turn to near normal after 10 monthsof treatment.     Investigation of listeria spp. in raw cow and water buffalo milks sold in Sivas province

    Listeria cinsi doğada yaygın olarak bulunmakta ve halk sağlığı yönünden risk oluşturan türleri içermektedir. Listeria türlerinin insanlara bulaşmasından özellikle hayvansal gıdalar (et ve et ürünleri, süt ve süt ürünleri) önem arz etmektedir. Bu nedenle, Sivas ilinde satılan çiğ inek (n=50) ve manda sütlerinde (n=50) Listeria spp. varlığı ISO 11290-1 yöntemi kullanılarak araştırılması çalışmanın ana amacını oluşturmaktadır. İncelenen 100 adet çiğ süt örneğinin %4’ünden (4/100) Listeria spp. izole edildi. Süt örneklerinden elde edilen izolatların polimeraz zincir reaksiyonu (PZR) ile doğrulanması yapıldı. Çiğ inek sütlerinin Listeria spp. kontaminasyonu %2 (1/50) olarak belirlenirken, manda sütlerinde %6 (3/50) olarak saptandı. İnek sütünden izole edilen izolat PZR yöntemi ile L. grayi olarak identifiye edilirken, manda sütlerinden elde edilen izotların ise L. seeligeri (n=2) ve L. grayi (n=1) oldukları belirlendi. Ancak, süt örneklerinin hiçbirinde L. monocytogenes tespit edilmedi. Sonuç olarak, Sivas ilinde satılan çiğ inek ve manda süt örneklerinin düşük bir oranının Listeria spp. ile kontamine olduğu belirlendi. İnsanlarda hastalık oluşturan majör türün L. monocytogenes olması nedeni ile, Sivas ilinde satılan çiğ sütlerin bu bakteri yönünden halk sağlığı sorunu yaratması ihtimalinin düşük olduğu görülmüştür. Ancak, düzenli kontrollerin yapılması önem arz etmektedir.Listeria spp. is widely found in nature and the species pose a risk to public health. Particularly foods obtained from animals (meat and meat products; milk and dairy products) pose a critical risk factor for the transmission of Listeria to humans. Therefore, in this study, the presence of Listeria spp. in raw cow (n=50) and water buffalo milks (n=50) that were sold in Sivas province was investigated by using ISO 11290-1 method. Listeria spp. isolation rate was found as 4% (4/100) in overall raw milk samples. The isolates obtained from raw milk samples were validated by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The Listeria spp. contamination rate of raw cow milk was determined as 2% (1/50) and this rate was 6% (3/50) in water buffalo milk. It was determined that Listeria spp. isolates from the raw cow milk was all L. grayi; for the isolates from raw water buffalo milks, the isolates were identified as L. seeligeri (n=2) and L grayi (n=1) by PCR method. However, none of the milk samples was contaminated with L. monocytogenes. Consequently, a low proportion of raw cow and buffalo milk sold in Sivas province were contaminated with Listeria spp. Since the major Listeria specie that is causing disease in humans is the L. monocytogenes, it was observed that the raw milks sold in Sivas province have a slight risk for public health. However, regular monitoring is important for that matter

    Simultaneously-doping of HfO2 thin films by Ni with sputtering technique and effect of post annealing on structural and electrical properties

    This article reports a detailed structural and electrical characterization study of Ni:HfO2 dielectrics grown by rf and dc sputtering and variations in the rapid thermal annealing temperature. Annealing produced obvious changes in the morphological structure of films and XRD confirmed that the crystallite size increased from 1.3 nm to 14.4 nm with the annealing temperature. XPS showed that the amount of non-lattice oxygen decreased owing to the effects of annealing and resistivity. Dc resistivity measurements showed that the lowest sheet resistance of 1.182 ×106 Ω/□ was achieved by as-deposited films and increased to 70.960 Ω/□ with annealing. Structural differences in films due to the effect of annealing caused equivalent circuit models to vary and different resistance values in electrochemical impedance spectrometry. This study illustrates that HfO2 thin films, boosted by doping and rapid thermal annealing, provide a route toward advanced gate oxide stack structures in electronic devices beyond conventional high-dielectric-constant materials.&nbsp;</p

    Conductometric Flexible CuO-Based Sweat-Loss Monitoring Sensor for Future Wearable Technology in Healthcare

    Healthcare tracking supports early diagnosis of illnesses, realtime tracking of the impacts of therapy and treatment, and tracking of casesof human health. Based on this, real-time tracking of sweat loss provides aneasy, convenient, and noninvasive approach to the early diagnosis of physicalillness in individuals. To date, copper oxide (CuO) as a nanostructuredsemiconductor metal-oxide is regarded as a hopefully p-type sensingmaterial. The corresponding sweat rate monitoring systems were fabricatedusing a repeatable and cost-effective SILAR system using a cellulose acetatebased organic substrate. To provide a practical application, we investigatedthe working efficiency of Al:CuO under room conditions since most clinicaland healthcare industries operate under ambient temperature. Fabricatedflexible devices immediately respond to the implementation of the sweatsolution and reach a steady-state value in a short time. It can be obtainedfrom experimental results that the sweat-loss monitoring performances of CuO-based devices can be enhanced by employing Aldoping. The increment in the sensing efficacy was interpreted in terms of structural and morphological characterization and electricaldata. Our designed flexible thin film-based system can be used in conjunction with a customized wearable, healthcare industryintegrated, low-cost fabrication source.</p

    Synthesis of Al and In dual-doped CuO nanostructures via SILAR method: Structural, optical and electrical properties

    In this article, we investigated the doping characteristics of Al-doped CuO (ACO), and Al/In co-doped CuO (AICO) thin films, which were synthesized on glass substrates, via the solution-based successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) technique. The surface morphological, chemical composition, structural, optical, and electrical properties of the nanocrystalline films were characterized by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-Ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis.) spectrophotometry, and Transmission Line Method (TLM), respectively. Surface morphology studies exhibited that a decrease in the films' thickness caused an increment in the optical transmittance. XRD patterns displayed that the obtained samples were polycrystalline and crystallized in a bare CuO monoclinic structure. FTIR studies of the CuO samples displayed that Al and In co-doping influenced the forms and the violence of the absorption bands. The optical bandgap energy of bare CuO was determined to increase from 1.45 – 1.78&nbsp;eV as a result of the co-doping. The substitution of In displayed in the irregularity of the morphology, owing to its wide ionic radius, which caused an increase in band gap energy and a decrease in resistance. The co-doping of Al and In is hence anticipated to ensure an extensive range of physical and optical properties of nanostructured metal oxide samples for a variety of technological applications.</p

En sık nedenleri arasında uretero-pelvik bileşke darlığı, vezikoureteral reflu, üreter taşları bulunur. Nadir nedenlerinden biri de yutulan yabancı cisimlerdir. Çoğu asemptomatikdir ve fekal yolla atılmaktadır. Bazen yutulan yabancı cisimler gastrointestinal traktan komşu organlara migrate olarak komplikasyonlara neden olmaktadırlar. Yan ağrısı ile gelen kadın hastalarda başörtüsü iğnesi akılda olmalıdır.Obstruction formed in ureter may cause hydronephrosis. Patient having hydronephrosis complains about side pain, mass in the abdomen and urinary tract infections. The most common causes are uretero-pelvic junction obstruction, vesico-ureteral reflux and ureter stones. Hydronephrosis rarely originates from swallowed foreing bodies. And most of these cases are asymptomatic and are thrown through feacal. Sometimes, these bodies cause complications by migrating to adjacent organs from gastrointestinal system.
