    The Effect of Research Evidence-Based Teaching Practices in Science Classrooms on Student Teachers' Attitudes towards Educational Research

    Research in the field of education plays a pivotal role in developing evidence-based practices in teaching and improving the quality of education. However, research conducted in recent years has highlighted the unwillingness of teachers to benefit from scientific studies. This study set out to assess whether Research Evidence-Based Practices in Science Teaching (EBPST) influences the teaching practices of student teachers and their attitudes towards education research. Mixed methods research design was used in this study. The study was conducted through Quasi-experimental methods and focus group interviews. The data were collected with the "Teachers Attitude Scale towards Educational Research (TASTER)" and focus group interviews. Participants of the study included 106 third-year undergraduate student teachers. The experimental group applied EBPST during their teaching, while the control group applied existing traditional teaching at primary schools. The Quantitative findings showed that student teachers in the experimental group had significantly increased positive attitudes towards educational research when compared with student teachers in the control group. In addition, qualitative findings revealed that several factors negatively and positively influence the understanding and use of educational research for student teachers on the applicability of EBPST. Considering the results of this study, student teachers' EBPST effect on improving their attitudes, understanding, and the use of educational research in teaching

    Pelatihan Aplikasi Mendeley Sebagai Manajemen Referensi bagi Mahasiswa Peserta Magang dan Studi Independen Bersertifikat

    Compiling a list of references is often an obstacle in completing a scientific work, which then presents applications that can help with this problem. Mendeley software is one of the many applications that is very helpful in compiling a list of citations in a scientific work. It is a very popular application or software with millions of users in academic circles. The large number of students who do not know and understand this application has encouraged Mendeley application training activities for MSIB student participants at the Papua Central Statistics Agency. This activity aims to improve the ability of MSIB participating students in compiling a list of references or references in writing written work. The activity was attended by 28 students from various study programs from various universities throughout Indonesia. This training activity was carried out over 2 days and used lecture, discussion and practice methods. From the results of the activity evaluation through reviewing written work using the Mendeley application, it shows that all participants were able to write written works using the Mendeley application as a reference manager. On the first day the percentage of participants' ability when operating the application was only 36%, then after training on the second day the percentage increased to 100% or all participants were able to understand the use of the Mendeley application due to direct practice in using the application, thereby providing participants with an understanding of both theory, practice and discussions held during the training

    Investigation of the Self-efficacy Beliefs of Pre-service Science Teachers in Terms of Following and Using the Innovations in the Field of Education

    One of the factors influencing teachers’ and pre-service teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs is the use of innovations and research in education (scientific articles, thesis, and new teaching materials). This study aims to examine to what extent pre-service science teachers follow the innovations in the field of education and use these innovations in their profession. Secondly, how the innovations in the field of education effect teachers’ science teaching self-efficacy beliefs is examined. Survey method which is one of the quantitative research approaches was used in this study. The sample group of the study consisted of 563 pre-service science teachers enrolled in the Department of Science Teacher Training in the Faculty of Education at six universities in different regions of Turkey. The data in the study were collected using the “Science Teaching Efficacy Belief Instrument (STEBI)” developed by Riggs and Enochs (1990) and “Scale of Following and Using the Innovations in the Field of Education” (SFUIFE) developed by the researchers of this study. The data were analyzed both descriptively and predictively using SPSS. The results of the study showed that the primary resources (search engines such as google, web pages for course materials etc.) have been used and followed less than the secondary resources (conferences, symposiums, panels, workshops, thesis, and scientific articles etc.) by pre-service science teachers. In addition, it was found that following and using social media tools, thesis and scientific articles increase pre-service science teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs of science teaching

    Scale of Attitudes Towards Online Formative Assessment: Teacher’ Attitudes during COVID-19 Pandemic

    Due to the pandemic in many countries, schools were closed in 2020. Therefore, education was suspended, and distance education was started. During the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, teachers gave lessons online in virtual classrooms. In this study, Scale of Attitudes Towards Online Formative Assessment (S-AOFA) for teachers conducting online and distance courses was developed, and the teachers' attitudes were examined with respect to demographic variables. In the study conducted in the mixed-design method, qualitative and quantitative data were collected for the scale development and survey. Data were obtained from 369 teachers (science teacher, mathematics teacher, classroom teacher, and teachers in other fields) working in school in Turkey. S-AOFA was made up of 20 items and two factors as a five-point Likert-type. When the teachers' attitudes towards online formative assessment (AOFA) was examined, it was found that the mean for the factor of "Assessment Systems" was lower than that of the "Assessment Approaches". In addition, the findings revealed that there was no significant difference in the teachers' AOFA in terms of gender and that no significant difference existed in AOFA with respect to the school levels of the teachers (elementary, secondary and high school). Moreover, the results demonstrated that there was a low negative significant relationship between the teachers' AOFA and the number of students in which virtual lessons were given online. Lastly, there was a low level positive significant relationship between the teachers' AOFA and the in-class participation percentages of the students who were taught online in virtual classrooms. S-AOFA could be used by researchers in different studies in future

    THE DEVELOPMENT OF TEACHERS ATTITUDE SCALE TOWARDS EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH: THE VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY STUDY

    Eğitimin kalitesini arttırmak amacıyla bilim insanları tarafından farklı konularda birçok eğitim araştırması yapılmaktadır. Diğer taraftan öğretmenlerden bu araştırma sonuçları bulgularına dayanarak uygulamalar yapmaları beklenmektedir. Öğretmenlerin eğitim araştırmalarının bulgularından yararlanmalarında bu araştırmalara karşı tutumları önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı öğretmenlerinin eğitim araştırmalarına karşı tutumlarının belirlenmesine yönelik "Eğitim Araştırmalarına Yönelik Öğretmen Tutum Ölçeği (EAÖTÖ)" olarak adlandırılan Likert tipi bir ölçek geliştirmektir. Çalışmada karma araştırma deseni kullanılmış olup nicel ve nitel verilerden yararlanılmıştır. Çalışmanın örneklemini 504 öğretmen oluşturmaktadır. EAÖTÖ'nün geliştirilmesindeki basamaklar; Kuramsal Çerçevesinin Oluşturulması; Madde Havuzunun Oluşturulması; Uzman Görüşe Başvurma; Geçerlik ve Güvenirlik İçin İstatistiksel Analizler; şeklindedir. EÖATÖ'nün geliştirilmesinde madde analizi, açımlayıcı faktör analizi, doğrulayıcı faktör analizi, Güvenirlik katsayısı (Cronbach's Alpha) değerleri hesaplanmıştır. Sonuç olarak EAÖTÖ 3 faktörlü yapıda (Eğitim Araştırmalarının Gerekliliği, Eğitim Araştırmalarına Değer Verme, Eğitim Araştırmalarının Uygulanabilirliği) 20 maddeden oluşturulmuş olup, Güvenirlik katsayısı Cronbach's Alpha 0.88 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Educational researches have been carried out by scientists in different subjects in order to improve the quality of education. On the other hand teachers are expected to apply the findings of this research results into practice. Teacher' attitudes towards education research are important in accepting the findings of education researches. The aim of this study was to develop "Teachers Attitude Scale Towards Educational Research (TASTER)" which is a Likert-type scale in order to determine teachers' attitudes towards educational research. Mixed research design has been utilized as the research method and data were obtained as both qualitative and quantitative means. The study sample was composed of 504 teachers. Steps in the development of TASTER are; establishment of theoretical framework; creation of item pool; getting the expert opinion; statistical analysis for reliability and validity. Item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and reliability coefficient (Cronbach's alpha) were used in the development of TASTER. As a result of the study, three-factor structure of TASTER composed of 20 items were formed and the Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient was calculated as 0.88

    Correlation between chemistry pre-service teachers' learning style and academic achievement

    Bu çalışmada Kimya öğretmeni adaylarının öğrenme stillerinin belirlenmesi ve öğrenme stilleri ile akademik başarıları arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Orneklemini 112 kimya öğretmeni adayının oluşturduğu araştırmanın verileri Grasha ve Riechmann (1982) tarafından geliştirilen ve Türkçeye uyarlanması Uzuntiryaki, Bilgin ve Geban (2003) tarafından yapılan Öğrenme Stili Ölçeği kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçları, genel olarak bakıldığında öğrencilerin rekabetçi ve ışbirlikli öğrenme stili düzeylerinin yüksek olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Ayrıca en üst düzeyde sahip olunan öğrenme stilleri dikkate alındığında işbirlikli öğrenme sitiline sahip öğrencilerin diğer öğrenme stillerine nazaran çoğunlukta olduğu görülmüştür. Ayrıca, çalışmadan elde edilen bulgular öğrencilerin akademik başarıları ile katılımcı öğrenme stili arasında pozitif bir korelâsyonun olduğunu göstermiştir.In this study, it is aimed to cany out pre-service chemistiy teachers' learning styles and discuss the correlation between learning style and student' success in chemistiy. Study data obtain form 112 pre-seivice chemistiy teachers by using Grasha and Riechmann (1982), which was by in Turkish by Uzuntiryaki, Bilgin ve Geban (2003). The results showed that teachers' collaborative and competitive learning styles are more dominant than the other learning styles and collaborative learning style has a higher frequency than the other learning styles. The correlation analysis between learning style and chemistry achievement showed a statistically significant positive correlation between participant learning style and students' chemistry success

    Using WebQuest and Wiki Activities in Chemistry Courses: Pre-Service Elementary Teachers' Views and their Motivation to Learn Chemistry

    WOS: 000389961100011This study aims to determine pre-service elementary teachers' views with regard to evaluating the effectiveness of WebQuest and Wiki activities prepared for general chemistry courses. It also aims to detect the effects of these activities on pre-service elementary teachers' levels of motivation to learn chemistry. For this aim, we used a mixed method research design. Data were gathered using focus group interviews and the 'Chemistry Motivation Questionnaire'. The sample of the study consisted of 111 pre-service elementary teachers from two different universities. The frequency of the pre-service teachers' logging into WebQuest and Wiki activities of the Moodle Learning Management Systems were monitored. The qualitative result of the study shows that both systems made cognitive contributions to pre-service teachers and attracted their interest at the sensory level. As for the quantitative analysis, the results of our study indicate that pre-service teachers had positive views toward using WebQuest or Wiki activities in courses, whereas their motivation to learn chemistry did not increase. A positive, significant relationship but at a low level was observed between pre-service teachers' motivation to learn chemistry and the frequency of logging into Wiki activities

    İnceleme alanı Adıyaman-Sincik ilçesine bağlı Ormanbaşı Tepe ve çevresini kapsar. Güney Doğu Anadolu Kenar Kıvrımları Kuşağı ile Toros Orojenik Kuşağı arasında kalan bölgedeki Cu cevherleşmelerinin bölgesel jeoloji konumları, yaklaşık D-B uzanımlı bindirme düzlemleri ile uyumludur. Cu cevherleşmeleri, Koçali karmaşığının çamurtaşı, diyabaz, spilit ve kiltaşı-şeyllerin içerisinde merceğimsi ve tabakamsı şekillerde bulunmaktadır. Bu oluşukların ilksel oluşum ilişkileri tümüyle kaybolmuş olup genel tektonik hatlara uyumlu bindirme düzlemleri boyunca izlenmişlerdir. Cevher yapısı genel olarak masif, kimi zonlarda ağsı ve saçınımlıdır. Cevherleşme yüzeyde demir şapka (gossan) şeklinde görülürken, derine doğru piritli cevher kabuğu izlenmektedir. Cevher parajenezi pirit, markazit, kalkopirit, sfalerit, bornit, kalkozin-kovellin ve nabit bakır şeklindedir. Cevherleşmelere ait örneklerin tamamı Cu-Pb-Zn ve Au-(Cu+Pb+Zn)-Ag üçgen diyagramlarında Kıbrıs tipi volkanojenik masif sülfit (VMS) alanında kalmaktadır. İlksel mantoya göre normalize edilmiş Pb, Cu, Ag, Au ve Zn spider diyagramlarında da örneklerin tamamı VMS yataklarına benzer bir eğilim sunmaktadır. Ayrıca masif piritlerde yapılan analizlerde, bunların Co/Ni oranlarının 1’in üzerinde olduğu ve düşük Ni içeriğine sahip oldukları saptanmış olduğundan cevherleşmelerde hidrotermal süreçlerin etkin olduğu anlaşılmıştır. İnceleme alanındaki pirit ve kalkopirit örneklerinden yapılan kükürt izotop çalışmalarında S32/S34 oranları 6,9 ile 7,6 olarak elde edilmiştir. Bu değerler hem volkanizma ile ilgili hidrotermal çözeltilerdeki kükürt oranlarıyla uyumludur, hem de dünya üzerindeki Kıbrıs tipi VMS yataklarıyla benzer bir bileşim sergilemektedir.The study area covers Ormanbaşı Hill of Adıyaman-Sincik County and its vicinity. Regional geological locations of Cu mineralizations that lie between the Southeastern Anatolian Foothill Belt and Taurus Orogenic Belt are conformable with thrust planes approximately extending in E-W directions. Cu mineralizations are observed in the form of lenses and layers within mudstone, diabase, spilite and claystone - shales of the KoÇali complex. The primary genetic relations of these formations have completely been disappeared but have only been traced along thrust planes that are conformable with general tectonic lineaments. The ore structure is generally massive but is stockwork and disseminated in some zones. The ore bearing layer with pyrite towards deeper parts is observed, while the mineralization is observed in the form of iron ore cap (gossan) at surface. Ore paragenesis consists of pyrite, marcasite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, bornite, chalcosine - covelline and native copper. All samples belonging to ore mineralizations plot on Cyprus type volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) area in Cu - Pb - Zn and Au - (Cu + Pb + Zn) - Ag ternary diagrams. All samples in Pb, Cu, Ag, Au and Zn spider diagrams which were normalized to primary mantle show a trend similar to VMS deposits. Besides, analyses carried out in massive pyrites indicated that these had Ni/Co ratio higher than 1% and less Ni content. Therefore; it was detected that hydrothermal processes had been affective in ore mineralizations. S32/S34 ratios were obtained as 6.9 and 7.6 in sulfur isotope analyses performed by using pyrite and chalcopyrite samples. These values are both compatible with sulfur ratios in hydrothermal solutions related to volcanism and show a similar composition with that of Cyprus type VMS deposits on the world
