Lightest MSSM Higgs Boson Production and its Two-Photon Decay at the LHC

    Get PDF
We present an analysis of the production and two-photon decay of the lightest CP-even Higgs boson of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). A rather general model is considered, without supergravity constraints. All parameters of the model are taken into account, we especially study the dependence of the cross section on the squark masses, on the bilinear parameter μ\mu and the trilinear supersymmetry breaking parameter AA. Non-zero values of these parameters lead to significant mixing in the squark sector, and, thus, affect the masses of Higgs bosons through radiative corrections, as well as their couplings to squarks. The cross section times the two-photon branching ratio of h0h^0 is of the order of 15--25~fb in much of the parameter space that remains after imposing the present experimental constraints on the parameters.Comment: 11 pages, LaTeX, uses epsf and ws-art.sty. Get PDF
The Vmbatch system is shown to be a robust and reliable system for running batch jobs inside virtual machines. The system has been developed as a lightweight tool to establish and clean up virtual machines for CernVM processing of ALICE grid jobs. It can work with a stock guest image and interfaces with the Torque batch system. With the use of virtualization, the system can create a homogeneous execution environment for grid jobs that can be expanded dynamically upon availability of generic computing resources

Production and Two-photon Decay of the MSSM Scalar Higgs Bosons at the LHC

We consider the production and two-photon decay of the CPCP-even Higgs bosons (h0h^0 and H0H^0) of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) at the Large Hadron Collider. We study in detail the dependence of the cross section on various parameters of the MSSM, especially the dependence on the mixing effects in the squark sector due to the Higgs bilinear parameter μ\mu and the soft supersymmetry breaking parameter AA. We find that the cross section for the production of these Higgs bosons has a significant dependence on the parameters which determine the chiral mixing in the squark sector. The cross section times the two-photon branching ratio of h0h^0 is of the order of 15--25~fb in much of the parameter space that remains after imposing the present experimental constraints. For the H0H^0 the two-photon branching ratio is only significant if the H0H^0 is light, but then the cross section times the branching ratio may exceed 200~fb. The QCD corrections due to quark loop contributions are known to increase the cross section by 50\%. We find the dependence of the cross section on the gluon distribution function used to be rather insignificant.Comment: 16 pages, LaTex, plus 9 uuencoded figures attached Full ps file available at ftp://vsfys1.fi.uib.no/anonymous/pub/ as nordita-9548.ps or nordita-9548.ps-gz or via http://vsfys1.fi.uib.no/thpubl/publications.htm

Light, long-lived and secluded: can gluinos be driven out from LEP1 data ?

We briefly report about a possible settlement of the still ongoing dispute concerning the existence of SUSY signals in 4jet events at LEP1. We base our arguments on a simple selection strategy exploiting secondary vertex tagging and kinematical constraints, which could allow one to access or exclude gluino events for a broad range of masses and lifetimes.Comment: 10 pages, LaTeX, 3 PostScript figures embedded with epsfig.

SUSY Higgs at the LHC: Effects of light charginos and neutralinos

    Get PDF
In view of the latest LEP data we consider the effects of charginos and neutralinos on the two-photon and bbbar signatures of the Higgs at the LHC. Assuming the usual GUT inspired relation between M_1 and M_2 we show that there are only small regions with moderate tanbeta and large stop mixings that may be dangerous. Pathological models not excluded by LEP which have degeneracy between the sneutrino and the chargino are however a real danger because of large branching fraction of the Higgs into invisibles. We have also studied models where the gaugino masses are not unified at the GUT scale. We take M_1=M_2/10 as an example where large reductions in the signal at the LHC can occur. However we argue that such models with a very light neutralino LSP may give a too large relic density unless the sleptons are light. We then combine this cosmological constraint with neutralino production with light sfermions to further reduce the parameter space that precludes observability of the Higgs at the LHC. We still find regions of parameter space where the drops in the usual Higgs signals at the LHC can be drastic. Nonetheless, in such scenarios where Higgs may escape detection we show that one should be able to produce all charginos and neutralinos. Although the heavier of these could cascade into the Higgs, the rates are not too high and the Higgs may not always be recovered this way.Comment: 37 pages, 17 figures, Latex file, Paper with high resolution figures can be found at http://wwwlapp.in2p3.fr/web/lapp/preplapp/psth/LAPTH774.ps.g

Gluino Pair Production at Linear e^+e^- Colliders

    Get PDF
We study the potential of high-energy linear e+ee^+e^- colliders for the production of gluino pairs within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). In this model, the process e+eg~g~e^+e^-\to\tilde{g}\tilde{g} is mediated by quark/squark loops, dominantly of the third generation, where the mixing of left- and right-handed states can become large. Taking into account realistic beam polarization effects, photon and Z0Z^0-boson exchange, and current mass exclusion limits, we scan the MSSM parameter space for various e+ee^+e^- center-of-mass energies to determine the regions, where gluino production should be visible.Comment: 22 pages, 9 figure

Prediction of long-term remission in patients following discontinuation of anti-TNF therapy in ulcerative colitis: a 10 year follow up study

    Get PDF
Background - The long-term outcomes of Ulcerative colitis (UC) after discontinuation of biological therapy are largely unknown. There is also a lack of accurate and validated markers that can predict outcome after withdrawal accurately. The aims of this study were to describe the long-term outcomes in UC patients following cessation of anti-TNF therapy and explore potential biomarkers as an approach towards precision medicine. Methods - Seventy-five patients with moderate to severe UC treated to remission with anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) were included in the study. This is a follow-up of previously reported UC outcomes. The patients were categorized as either “Remission” or “Relapse”. The “Relapse” group was divided into subgroups determined by the highest treatment level needed to obtain remission the last 3 years of observation: non-biological therapy, biological therapy or colectomy. Remission were divided in long term remission (LTR), those using immunomodulating drugs (LTR + imids) and those using only 5-amino-salicylate (5-ASA) treatment (LTR) for the past 3 years. Analyses of mucosal gene expression by real-time PCR were performed. Results - The median (IQR) observation time of all patients included was 121 (111–137) months. Of the 75 patients, 46 (61%) did not receive biological therapy, including 23 (31%) in LTR ± imids. Of these 23 patients, 16 (21%) were defined as LTR with a median observation time of (IQR) 95 (77–113) months. In total 14 patients (19%) underwent colectomy during the 10 years after first remission. Mucosal TNF copies/µg mRNA  Conclusion - In this 10-year follow-up of UC of patients with moderate to severe disease, 61% of patients experience an altered phenotype to a milder disease course without need of biological therapy. Twenty-one percent of the patients were LTR without any medication except of 5-ASA. Mucosal TNF gene expression and IL1RL1- transcripts may be of clinical utility for long term prognosis in development of precision medicine in UC
