Non-linear generation of acoustic noise in the IAR spacecraft

The requirement to produce high level acoustic noise fields with increasing accuracy in environmental test facilities dictates that a more precise understanding is required of the factors controlling nonlinear noise generation. Details are given of various nonlinear effects found in acoustic performance data taken from the IAR Spacecraft Acoustic Chamber. This type of data has enabled the IAR to test large spacecraft to relatively tight acoustic tolerances over a wide frequency range using manually set controls. An analog random noise automatic control system was available and modified to provide automatic selection of the chamber's spectral sound pressure levels. The automatic control system when used to complete a typical qualification test appeared to equal the accuracy of the manual system and had the added advantage that parallel spectra could be easily achieved during preset tests

Rigidity : a cognitive style conceptualization of depression : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in Psychology at Massey University

The traditional ideas of depression as an affective illness are examined and evidence is presented that contrary to the view presented in many texts, depression is also associated with thought disorders as severe as those experienced in other psychopathological illnesses. A model of depression as a single entity is proposed that suggests that the various manifestations of the disorder are due to a single underlying mechanism. This mechanism is conceived of in terms of cognitive style and cognitive control theory and evidence is presented that this is an adaptive mechanism for the individual and consists of selective blocking of incoming stimuli or in more general terms, 'rigidity'. Twelve depressed patients were examined using a battery of tests which yielded 22 measures including level of depression, rigidity, anxiety, field-dependence and various scales of personality. These measures were then correlated using Pearsons Product-Moment correlation coefficients and were then subjected to cluster analysis using Tryons modification of Holzinger and Harmon's B-coefficient technique. This gave four meaningful clusters of which three matched the components of Becks primary triad, with the important addition that this analysis reveals the importance of rigidity as a factor in Beck's second component-negative self-concept

Do the Fix Ingredients Already Exist? An Empirical Inquiry into the Redundancy Assumptions of Program Repair Approaches

Much initial research on automatic program repair has focused on experimental results to probe their potential to find patches and reduce development effort. Relatively less effort has been put into understanding the hows and whys of such approaches. For example, a critical assumption of the GenProg technique is that certain bugs can be fixed by copying and re-arranging existing code. In other words, GenProg assumes that the fix ingredients already exist elsewhere in the code. In this paper, we formalize these assumptions around the concept of ''temporal redundancy''. A temporally redundant commit is only composed of what has already existed in previous commits. Our experiments show that a large proportion of commits that add existing code are temporally redundant.
