Una experiencia de educación artística contemporánea para personas con demencia. El Proyecto AR.S: Arte y Salud

In this work, a contemporary artistic education program for people with early dementia is presented. The assumptions on which the design of the program content was based and the organization of the activities included therein are described. Dementia was not an impediment to participate in the program, which was an opportunity for creativity, learning, enjoyment, and communication. A high level of participant commitment in the proposed activities was observed as well as great interest to learn new things. We also observed the participants’ satisfaction with their results and during the creative process. The artistic activities not only reinforced the feelings of capacity of the participants with early dementia but also transmitted a positive image of them. To facilitate access to art and artistic education to people with early dementia can contribute to enforcing their rights and to improving the care system. In view of the results of this experience, we consider that art should be a part of caring for people with dementia, as artistic activities can extend the cognitive and emotional resources of the people who participate in them. These activities can provide them with new opportunities to learn, to develop skills, to share their ideas and the results of their work with other people, and to intensely enjoy their involvement in a creative process.En este trabajo se presenta un programa de educación artística contemporánea para personas con demencia temprana. Se describen los presupuestos sobre los que se diseñó el contenido del programa y la organización de las actividades que formaron parte del mismo. La demencia no supuso impedimento para la participación en el programa, que fue una oportunidad para la creatividad, el aprendizaje, el disfrute y la comunicación. Se observó un elevado compromiso de los participantes en las actividades propuestas y un interés alto por aprender cosas nuevas. Asimismo se observó satisfacción de los participantes durante el proceso creativo y con sus resultados. Las actividades artísticas reforzaron sentimientos de capacidad de las personas con demencia temprana participantes y transmitieron una imagen positiva de ellas mismas. Facilitar el acceso al arte y a la educación artística a personas con demencia temprana puede contribuir a hacer efectivos sus derechos y a mejorar los sistemas de cuidado. Los resultados de la experiencia que se expone nos llevan a considerar que el arte debería formar parte de los cuidados de las personas con demencia puesto que las actividades artísticas pueden ampliar los recursos cognitivos y emocionales de quienes las llevan a cabo, ofreciéndoles nuevas oportunidades para el aprendizaje, para el desarrollo de habilidades, para compartir con los demás ideas y el resultado del trabajo, y para disfrutar intensamente de su implicación en un proceso creativo

Convergence and divergence regarding the modernity paradigm in the first sociological schools

Walls Matter: Art to humanize a health children’s area

El propósito de este trabajo es presentar una experiencia de humanización de un espacio salud a través de recursos artísticos. La humanización de los espacios sanitarios representa un componente del concepto más amplio de humanización en el ámbito de la salud. Esta humanización ha de entenderse y las familias y de la forma que tienen los niños de dar sentido al entorno que les rodea. El arte constituye una estrategia con potenciales implicaciones en la mejora y humanización de los entornos de cuidado de la salud. Siguiendo una metodología de estudio de caso, en este artículo se describe una experiencia de humanización a través de intervenciones artísticas en un espacio sanitario para niños. Se presenta el contexto de la experiencia y se detallan las fases de la misma. The Basque Language (Euskera) As an Ideological Instrument in the Historical Construction of Basque Ethnic Identity

This paper analyzes how studies of a language and the language itself can be used as symbolic instruments to construct or support a differential ideological identity. The analyses of these studies have allowed us to undertake a sort of “archaeology” of the process of Basque ethnogenesis. All the authors instrumentalized philological studies as a way of expressing and claiming their ethnic identity, building their arguments on the basis of previous works (the “archaeological” layer being immediately underneath) at the same time that they reformulated them in order to better suit their specific conception of Basque identity as well as their particular sociopolitical interests. As if we were looking at a stratigraphic cut of an uninterrupted human settlement, the research unravels the existence of a narrative thread that, stratum upon stratum (that is, author upon author) connects the Basque chroniclers of the 16th to 18th centuries with the romantic fuerista writers of the 19th century, as well as Sabino de Arana-Goiri, the founder of the contemporary Basque Nationalist Party

Multi-Gigabit Wireless data transfer at 60 GHz

In this paper we describe the status of the first prototype of the 60 GHz wireless Multi-gigabit data transfer topology currently under development at University of Heidelberg using IBM 130 nm SiGe HBT BiCMOS technology. The 60 GHz band is very suitable for high data rate and short distance applications as for example needed in the HEP experments. The wireless transceiver consist of a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter includes an On-Off Keying (OOK) modulator, an Local Oscillator (LO), a Power Amplifier (PA) and a BandPass Filter (BPF). The receiver part is composed of a BandPass- Filter (BPF), a Low Noise Amplifier (LNA), a double balanced down-convert Gilbert mixer, a Local Oscillator (LO), then a BPF to remove the mixer introduced noise, an Intermediate Amplifier (IF), an On-Off Keying demodulator and a limiting amplifier. The first prototype would be able to handle a data-rate of about 3.5 Gbps over a link distance of 1 m. The first simulations of the LNA show that a Noise Figure (NF) of 5 dB, a power gain of 21 dB at 60 GHz with a 3 dB bandwidth of more than 20 GHz with a power consumption 11 mW are achieved. Simulations of the PA show an output referred compression point P1dB of 19.7 dB at 60 GHz.Comment: Proceedings of the WIT201

La construcción del indio domesticado como categoría social y cognitiva entre los ticuna: para una psicología social de las relaciones de dominación en el alto Amazonas

El artículo explora las percepciones recíprocas que indígenas y occidentales se forjaron de los otros en el proceso histórico de dominación a partir de un ejemplo concreto, el de los indios ticuna del Alto Amazonas. Los ticuna aceptaron la dominación e interiorizaron la visión estereotípica que de ellos había generado el dominador occidental como seres inferiores, adaptándola a su propia cosmovisión nativa. Se creó entre los indios un complejo de actitudes de subordinación que hacía que la profecía de superioridad del occidental se autosatisficiese y que ejerció una función de control social indirecto, permitiendo a una pequeña élite de amos coloniales gobernar sobre un gran número de indígenas sin tener que recurrir constantemente al costoso ejercicio de la coerción física. Reinterpretada la subordinación en clave sobrenatural los ticuna sólo podían entender la liberación en clave sobrenatural. Así, los movimientos políticos o de resistencia militar fueron inexistentes y su historia está marcada por una sucesión de movimientos milenaristas.This paper explores the reciprocal perceptions of «the other» that Indians and Westerners developed during the historical process of colonial domination. The Ticuna accepted domination and internalized the stereotypical image of the Indian as an inferior creature, which was created by the Western culture, adapting it to their own native worldview. This generated among the Indians a complex of subordination that in turn made the Western superiority prophecy come true and functioned as a mechanism of indirect social control, allowing a small elite of colonial masters to govern over a great number of Indians without resorting constantly to the onerous exercise of physical coertion. Subordination was reinterpreted in terms of the supernatural and the Ticuna therefore could only understand deliverance in terms of the supernatural. Thus, political or military resistance movements never occurred whereas Ticuna history is sprinkled with millenarianist movements

Los indios ticuna del alto Amazonas ante los procesos actuales de cambio cultural y globalización.

Los indios ticuna están sujetos en la actualidad a fuerzas de sentidos contrarios aparentemente contradictorio& Por un lado están experimentando un proceso acelerado de aculturación, deculturación e integración a las sociedades nacionales de Brasil, Colombia y Perú a partir del momento de su asentamiento masivo en aldeas a orillas dcl Amazonas. Por otro, el momento presente es tcstigo de una revitalización cultural y política de los ticuna en dirección hacia la autonomia y la defensa de su diferencia cultural. La aparente paradoja descansa en el hecho de que estos segundos procesos han sido puestos en marcha y están posibilitados por las sociedades mayores y los mismos procesos de aculturación. Desde los principios de una Antropologia Aplicada nos proponemos humildemente proponer soluciones al reto al que se enfrenta la diversidad cultural como la que representan los ticuna ante los presentes procesos de cambio diferenciando entre los fenómenos de globalización y aculturación.The contemporary Ticuna lndians are subjected to apparently contradictory forces of opposite senses. From the principIes of an applied anthropology we humbly aim to propose solutions to the challenge that cultural diversity, as the one represented by the Ticuna, is facing before the present processes of social change by differentiating the phenomenon of globalization from that of acculturation

Los límites de la ingeniería indigenista: la reestructuración del autogobierno entre los indios ticunas del Alto Amazonas

El artículo analiza el proceso de reestructuración política de los ticunas tras su reconcentración en aldeas ribereñas después de un largo periodo de dispersión territorial y atomización social iniciado con la dominación de los patronos del caucho. El artículo hace énfasis en el origen externo, impuesto por los órganos indigenistas de los estados nacionales, de las nuevas instituciones políticas aldeanas y su debilidad debido al fuerte individualismo e igualitarismo de la sociedad ticuna.The essay analyses the process of political reestructuration of the Tikuna Indians after their resettling in riverside villages subsequent to a long period of territorial scattering and social disruption stemming from the rubber patron's domination. The essay stresses the external origin of the new political institutions in the villages, imposed by indigenist organisms of the national states, and their weakness, due to strong individualism and social egalitarianism of the Tikuna society

Robotic monitoring of gravitationally lensed quasars

We report on the first observational phase of the Liverpool Quasar Lens Monitoring (LQLM) project. This mainly consisted of the optical follow-up of three lensed quasars using the 2 m Liverpool Robotic Telescope. The observational subprogram started in January 2005 and was completed in July 2007. We also describe our photometric approaches (including two pipelines to extract accurate and reliable fluxes of images of lensed quasars), the performance of the telescope when taking modest nightly exposures of lens systems, and the main scientific results from the observed light curves. The LQLM archive and the current status of the project (second phase) are also outlined.The authors are grateful to the organizers (LOC and SOC) of the workshop on Robotic Autonomous Observatories held in Malaga from 18 to 21 May 2009, who prepared a useful meeting showing current robotic facilities as well as the efforts of several groups in different fields and some ongoing projects.
