The UNSW Extrasolar Planet Search: Methods and First Results from a Field Centred on NGC 6633
We report on the current status of the University of New South Wales
Extrasolar Planet Search project, giving details of the methods we use to
obtain millimagnitude precision photometry using the 0.5m Automated Patrol
Telescope. We use a novel observing technique to optimally broaden the PSF and
thus largely eliminate photometric noise due to intra-pixel sensitivity
variations on the CCD. We have observed 8 crowded Galactic fields using this
technique during 2003 and 2004. Our analysis of the first of these fields
(centred on the open cluster NGC 6633) has yielded 49 variable stars and 4
shallow transit candidates. Follow-up observations of these candidates have
identified them as eclipsing binary systems. We use a detailed simulation of
our observations to estimate our sensitivity to short-period planets, and to

Laser frequency comb techniques for precise astronomical spectroscopy
Precise astronomical spectroscopic analyses routinely assume that individual
pixels in charge-coupled devices (CCDs) have uniform sensitivity to photons.
Intra-pixel sensitivity (IPS) variations may already cause small systematic
errors in, for example, studies of extra-solar planets via stellar radial
velocities and cosmological variability in fundamental constants via quasar
spectroscopy, but future experiments requiring velocity precisions approaching
~1 cm/s will be more strongly affected. Laser frequency combs have been shown
to provide highly precise wavelength calibration for astronomical
spectrographs, but here we show that they can also be used to measure IPS
variations in astronomical CCDs in situ. We successfully tested a laser
frequency comb system on the Ultra-High Resolution Facility spectrograph at the
Anglo-Australian Telescope. By modelling the 2-dimensional comb signal recorded
in a single CCD exposure, we find that the average IPS deviates by <8 per cent
if it is assumed to vary symmetrically about the pixel centre. We also
demonstrate that series of comb exposures with absolutely known offsets between
them can yield tighter constraints on symmetric IPS variations from ~100
pixels. We discuss measurement of asymmetric IPS variations and absolute
wavelength calibration of astronomical spectrographs and CCDs using frequency

Co-existence of acute myeloid leukemia with multilineage dysplasia and Epstein-Barr virus-associated T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis: a case report
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease mediated by inflammatory processes mainly at the joints. Recently, awareness of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder (T-LPD) has been heightened for its association with methotraxate usage in RA patients. In the contrary, acute myeloid leukemia with multilineage dysplasia (AML-MLD) has never been documented to be present concomitantly with the above two conditions.
